Well, looks like Mrs. Horner won’t be coming back to class. That’s too bad.

There’s no shame in getting old. Be proud of it. There’s lots of people who don’t get that privilege.

I’ve been told the stories of when my mom turned 40, my dad planned a huge bash for her, but he had to cancel it, because she apparently went to bed and cried for days.

Otherwise, funny the subject of birthdays should be discussed in today’s strip, because today’s my birthday.

Unlike painting a room where you really can’t stop until it’s done, writing can be paused for any reason for any length of time. Not to mention how long was Luann planning to spend with Mrs. H An hour? Several hours? most of a day? She could have come at any time. But she was delayed because Shannon took a week to write a crummy story.

Excessive birthday-itis. I am familiar. It’s when you wake up the day after your birthday, wonder where your clothes are and why you are surrounded by bottles of cheap champagne and angry penguins from the local zoo.

Nothing wrong with getting old.

Look at all the World Events You (And Many of Us) SURIVED in the last 70-80-90 years.

Be thankful you’re living in an assistant care facility.

OTOH, it could use a “New” more tactful receptionist, Lu.

Especially since it seems that Mrs. Horner’s creative writing job has be filled……., ;-)

Maybe Mrs. Horner caught excessive birthday-itis from my neighbor around the corner, who tells me there is a thundering amount of heavy psychological burden that comes with turning 80. She says she felt fine all through her 70 decade, but the minute her age went from 79 to 80 she felt a hundred years older.

No problem with getting old. There’s only one other alternative, after all.

So LuAnn was born on February 29th?

Very glad Mrs. Horner is still ‘with us’…

What tenderness in the way they speak, in the way they look at each other and in the jokes they exchange. I don’t know if Mrs. Horner is a reflection of how Luann will be in the future, but I hope that she’ll be able to learn her wisdom and ability to be calm and positive in every situation. Luann is already on her way to that, what she still lack is the need to go travel and experience other cultures, as her mentor has done for most of her life and could do again. Perhaps in a journey to do together.

6/13 is my birthday, too. I’m 73…yikes!!

Let’s see…the average of 19 (Luann’s age) and 92 (Mrs. Horner’s) is 55.5. Anyone want a strip about 55-year-olds? jk

Speaking of Birthdays, a big Count Shout Out to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. 38 years old today. How time flies, eh?

Suffering from excessive time on planet earth

I used to be excited for my birthdays, but as I get older, they become more uninteresting to me. Mainly because I can’t afford or find a lot of things that I want. Even my old man doesn’t really like to celebrate his birthday that much.

In other words – old age. Yep, more medical problems as we get older and sooner or later we all leave this world.

Just getting old. No biggy.

Excessive birthday-itis is a disease needing curing when I am still under 70 of them. There are A LOT of related ailments we could do without.

Getting old is part of the process. I stop counting Birthdays after 25, Enjoy the life you have.

Great cartoon today, Luann still acting like a human being. This whole thread recently I find to be quite revealing.

More singers have died in the prime of their life due to drugs.

I’m 64 and I don’t really think about it, none of the milestone birthdays really affected me. I hope to stay healthy and productive, but I believe when it’s my time then I’ll be gone.

Ok can we end the “let’s feature Luann” campaign? She is an incredibly boring character. Nice person, but really boring. Even a story with Steffanie would be a welcome change about now.

just being old is not (necessarily) grounds for being in an assisted living facilty; one is there because help is needed for certain day-to-day living activities. Mrs. Horner is not in a wheel chair; she did not injure herself (on falling); she seems sharp. She doesn’t come across as frail. I’m assuming she could cook for herself (if she wanted). So I’m wondering if she really needed to be transferred to that facility and why she is there.

People worry so much about a facet of life we cannot change, no matter how hard we want to, try to, or even succeed, to a mild degree.It’s life… it happens to everyone. Yes, I fully agree, it’s frustrating, when we get to an age where we can no longer do the things we used to, wake up with things that hurt, or don’t work so well.But, change the things you like to do, to match your capabilities, and you may find, you can “finish your journey” without being depressed, constantly melancholy, or just surrendering to age.I got my black belt at 50… now, I spend time off taking pictures, and just enjoying life, regardless of things I can no longer do. Don’t waste it!

Now that I am old, I remember being young and thinking old could be fun if I was Ruth Gordon type and had crapitude. As in don’t take any!

When my mother’s older sister, my auntie bemoaned about getting older, my cousin and older sister chipped in to get her what they thought was a birthday card. “Be strong in these times. You will get through this.” Ha! Ha! It was not a birthday card! It was a sympathy card! O.K., auntie! She realized that perhaps she had been over-reacting.

I had a birthday YESTERDAY (Jun 12) – turned 65 and I am NOT happy (it’s annoying when people treat you like you’re old but I feel like I’m in my 30s)
