At least it isn’t a joke about how out of touch parents are. But why isn’t Luann ironing her own clothes?

Stop wearing things that need ironing!

Luann is definitely old enough to iron all her own clothes. Now is the perfect opportunity to make the transition Nancy.

What’s an iron? Hahaha—if an article of clothing needs ironing or dry cleaning, it’s not in my wardrobe! The few exceptions are my cotton happi coat and yukata for summer festivals. That said, Luann ought to be ironing her own clothes.

Permanent press is the way to go…

What is an iron and who cares?

Luann’s got it wrong anyway…unless she’s left-handed. If you are right-handed, you would normally hang them with your right hand, with the front facing you.

Of course, then there’s me. I’m left-handed, but I hang clothes with my right hand.

My mother never taught me ironing. Even when the gown for my college graduation needed pressing, she did it and completely ignored my protests. To her dying day, she refused to accept the fact that I was an adult!

I never ironed my own clothes when I lived with my parents. After I moved out, I never iron my clothes either.

But why can’t you iron your own clothes if you have an issue with this?

Starching and ironing your Levis is like a dead end, man. Specially if they can stand up by themselves..

Facing left is the correct way. I will not be taking questions.

Literally as soon as the kids could get their clothes out of the washer without toppling in, I refused to do it for them. I really, really hate laundry. And ironing? No way!

Les doesn’t know anything about jiggling a toilet handle, Luann considers placing clothes on a hanger “wrong way” a “problem.”

I’m telling ya, those two are MADE for each other! ;-)

How many people actually use ironing boards these days anyway?

Nancy simply is not a forceful person. Other mothers would say “here is the iron, Luann. Time you did your own laundry.”

Who buys clothes that need ironing? So yesterday!

Duh, Luann. Everyone knows you hang clothes so that the front of the garment is facing left.

First time I did my laundry was in boot camp.

What?Yes!

I don’t think Luann is taking the hint, Nancy.

I’m right-handed and have always gone against the grain and hang it to the right, like Luann does :)

I think the suggestion was rejected. It’s a funny mother-daughter moment, but I hope the day when Luann moves out or starts taking long trips comes soon. She needs to lose the convenience of having her parents iron her shirts.

Nancy, this is YOUR problem, of YOUR doing. Eat your lunch, lady.

We always did our own ironing from 13 on.

Hopefully this strip, in 20 years, doesn’t see LuAnn still leaving at the house and expecting her parents to take care of her.

who irons? when the kids were around 10 -12 years old, i was doing the laundry, put the clean clothes on their beds to be put away. when i was finding clean clothes still folded in with the dirty cloths when they cleaned their room. i said they will be doing their own laundry.

I’m retired. I don’t wear things that need ironing. When I retired I got rid of my suits, in the years since I have needed a suit once; I rented it.

How could a hanger hook go any other way but the curved part over the closet bar? Do some people reach in back and put the hook on from the inside wall of the closet? That would make it hard to get the hanger on or off the bar. What does Luann mean by the hook facing Left or Right?

I like mine facing left in the closet.

I’m a bit surprised LuAnn is so clueless. What else would she expect her mother to say?

When defining a problem, the first question to ask is what did you do to contribute to the problem, Nancy.

Ugh, this girl sucks. But it’s Nancy’s own fault for enabling her laziness and entitled attitude for all these years. She should have put her foot down long ago.

Hush up and iron, Nancy. That’s all you’re good for.

Did Luann actually go out and buy special hangers to make sure her mother gets her laundry right??!! (There’s that mental disability she has sneaking in again).

Nancy needs to start leaving Luann’s laundry in the basket, or the dryer, or on the floor in the laundry room – someplace Luann will find them. Then Luann would either do the big insult to her mother and ask her why her laundry isn’t done, OR she might actually take the hint.

Like toilet paper over or under, does it really matter?

They come out of the dryer and onto the hanger. Who cares what direction the hook is. When I pull them out of the closet I never have any trouble distinguishing the front from the back.

Let’s identify the problem. Luann, here’s a mirror.

Who irons clothes anymore?

Nancy has a point.

Mom solved that problem by teaching me about laundry. And then had me iron dad’s shirts.

Raise your hand if you think Aaron Hill should come back. That way, Luann asks herself what she ever saw in him and realizes that he wasn’t all that.

What Luann meant to say was she will iron her own clothes and hang them on the hanger with the twisty hooks.

People still iron?

Gets clothes steamer. Faster and easier to use and won’t damage your clothes.

Not too early to learn how to iron your own clothes Luann. Sheesh!

Who’s the blond character? I know Les, Gunther, Brad, Shannon… looks like a minor character these days. (weeks?)

Does anyone actually iron their clothes anymore?

Defining a problem. Those are big words. Luann thinks it’s that she doesn’t like the way Nancy puts her clothes on hangers. Nancy (if she has any idea at all of how to be a good parent or maintain any self-respect) should explain that she thinks it is that Luann is not doing her own laundry. That would be an interesting interaction but we won’t see it in print.

Luann, have you ever seen ‘Mommy Dearest’?

We kids were taught to do our own laundry at an early age, possibly because we were girls, but also because our parents taught us all the basic skills that one would need to survive in life (thanks, mom and dad!) One of my online friends said that when she went to college, a shocking number of students in her dorm didn’t know how to do laundry, so she started up a very successful laundry business!

Luann has a very wordy way of saying, “I will now iron all my own clothes.”

Nancy she does like how you iron, let her do her own ironing.

I wish Greg and Karen would let Luann grow up.

An even better solution would be for you to all of your laundry yourself, Luann.

Luann is immmature and ungrateful.

Nancy is hanging those shirts the right way.
