Clue Nelson in on the mnemonic to remember the ascending hardness of rocks: “The Girls Can Flirt And Other Queer Things Can Do.” But if he mentioned that in school, would he be admonished?
We (great-)grandpa’s have seen some stuff. The majority of us want our progeny to prosper, so we do our best to spread our wisdom. Liberty sprinkled with jokes and harmless information to amuse ourselves knowing they’ll figure out as they get older.
The first time I asked my first granddaughter to pull my finger was priceless. She shouted “No way” and drew back. My son had done his job and will be a great grandfather too one day. >:-)
The boy is standing on a leverite. When geologists are mapping an area, and collecting samples for lab analysis, any rock too heavy to carry back is a leverite – leave ’er right there.

Of course granite is metamorphic, not igneous. I think he’s making stuff up.

“How do we get home, grampa?”
“That’s easy. We take a right at the rock that looks like a bear, then a left at the bear that looks like a rock.”

What kind of cow? Igneous? Metamorphic? Cow identification is pretty tricky.
