There is a lovely painting out there… ‘Nāve’ (‘Death’), 1897 produced by Latvian painter Janis Rozentāls. It is a woman holding an infant. The woman is looking towards the specter before her… but not directly… as if she isn’t full there. The specter is a female dressed fully in white with a hand sickle. The specter of death is giving a final kiss to the infant. I… personally… think this is a much less intimidating Death. Something a bit more for children and infants to be carried off to the Afterlife.

It kinda worked.

Now he looks more like the Angel of Death.

Nice topic given the times. Seems death is becoming a fairly frequent visitor to this modern version.

You do know, that appearances will not change the reality. Death is still Death and Death is always intimidating.

I thought the second panel’s hand sickle was less intimidating than the fourth’s full-length scythe.

Certainly no man would be scared of the little death.

Look at the past, and consider life and death— life was shorter and death was a frequent guest at most households.
