Sorry, they do seem to get bigger the longer you’re walking around. From WebMD:

Noses and ears are made of cartilage, a flexible tissue that’s harder than skin but softer than bone. It wears down over time and doesn’t give as much support to the skin on top of it. Your skin also loses elasticity and firmness over time, and it tends to sag. Loose or sagging skin over a weaker cartilage frame makes ears and noses look longer.

Wrong explanation?

One of the perks of getting old is to have no care about our features. Soon enough they will get very much worse, but until then life goes on!

Her hair covered her ears most of the time and even if he did notice, why in the world would he say anything about it. Doing so would only hurt her feelings.
