Yesterday a few comments questioned how Mr. Johnson could have the “lead time” to honor Kris Kristofferson just nine days after his death but Arlo’s musings today leave little doubt that was just what JJ was doing. A couple years ago Willie Nelson summed up the kind of force Kris was. “Everything he writes is a standard and we’re all just going to have to live with that.”
I have long thought that there’s a place in the world for a new profession: song exorcist. I think it could probably be practiced either in person or remotely.
I am purposely not reading any comments for A&J today because I don’t want to run across someone else’s least favorite earworm and have that in my head all day!

Losing Kris is really a difficult one for a lot of us.

RIP Kris, a life well done. I can’t think of him without thinking of “Why Me”. I saw an interview of him on how the song came about.

That’s my favorite one Arlo. I’ve played Me and Bobby Mcgee in bar bands. Very fun song to play.

Gonna miss Kris Kristofferson. Johnny Cash did him proud.
I do that song quite a bit although it’s usually just Send In The Clowns.
Anyhoo:
Well, I woke up Sunday mornin’
With no way to hold my head that didn’t hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn’t bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day
I’d smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and songs I’d been pickin’
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playin’ with a can that he was kickin’
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone’s fryin’ chicken
And Lord, it took me back to somethin’ that I’d lost
Somewhere, somehow along the way
On a Sunday mornin’ sidewalk
I’m wishin’, Lord, that I was stoned
‘Cause there’s somethin’ in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone
And there’s nothin’ short a’ dyin’
That’s half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleepin’ city sidewalk
And Sunday mornin’ comin’ down
In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughin’ little girl that he was swingin’
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singin’
Then I headed down the street
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin’
And it echoed through the canyons
Like the disappearin’ dreams of yesterday
On a Sunday mornin’ sidewalk
I’m wishin’, Lord, that I was stoned
‘Cause there’s somethin’ in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone
And there’s nothin’ short a’ dyin’
That’s half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleepin’ city sidewalk
And Sunday mornin’ comin’ down

This is a reference to Kris Kristofferson who died recently, not earworms in general.

RIP Kris. If you’ve never heard Johnny Cash sing this one, take a few minutes and do it.

Johnny Cash did it proud but the best ever was Vicki Carr on the album “Nashville by Carr”

Kris Kristofferson was more than a singer. He was a poet and a story teller, and a good one at that.
