Not sure what would be worse – a drink that needs Ice (like cranberry juice and stains) or something Hot (like coffee that stains and tastes nasty to clean off the fur)!!!
Too close to one edge, to way too close to the other. Looks like it might have gotten hung up on something on the counter that gave it just the slightest jolt and….
I can’t believe I’m saying this about a cartoon strip, but this really makes me anxious for poor little Puck. He’s just trying to help! The only solace I have is that I know there will be a happy end eventually. But for the moment, I just want to hug and soothe him (maybe because we have a veeery similar good-natured but clumsy black male cat)
Poor little well intentioned Pucky….we’ve all been there Puck one way or another. I have been known to try to help assembling something by holding on to the screws and then dropping them so they can roll away and disappear. Sigh.
Don’t worry Puck, everyone knows you wouldn’t do that on purpose!
But it reminds me of our big ginger-and-white cat – I put my empty glass insulated cup down a bit clumsily, and it fell on its side, rolling slightly – he reached out to just tap it – it flips off the side of the table and lands perfectly on its top, causing it to literally explode, spraying glass bits everywhere. I couldn’t be mad at him – first, because he never knocked things over deliberately – and secondly, I was tickled by his expression of intense interest as the cup disintegrated – if he wore a lab coat, glasses and held a clip-board, it wouldn’t have looked out of character – if he could speak, he would probably have said something like “Fascinating…”
It’s okay, Pucky; we round-headed creatures do stuff like that all the time, too. Liquid can be mopped up much more easily than broken glass. Your heart was in the right place.
Just goes to show that sometimes the best way to help is to leave well enough alone.
I wouldn’t worry in any case. I’m pretty sure ol’ Mr. Claus keeps in mind accidents caused by what was otherwise good intentions such as this when he’s checking that list twice.
Poor Puck! Will he spend the rest of this time until Christmas worried that he is now on the Naughty List? He needs a hug and a scratch under the chin.
We do not leave any container, full or not, around where a cat can push it over and edge. No fun for the cats, but no broken glass or ceramic for the humans.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day: What we should most remember about this day are the errors in judgement that made the attack so devastating. These are well documented in At Dawn We Slept by Gordon W. Prange, the best and most balanced account. Pay no attention to historical revisionists and their various agendas. We owe that to all those who served in WWII.
Letter Writing Day: There was a discussion of cursive writing in the comments recently. When I learned penmanship, I and others my age thought the name was a euphemism for !$&%$‡fl‚$#@&!-ive. Perhaps that is why it is mostly moribund. It would be nice if high school graduates could write legibly, instead of something that causes a sympathetic reaction: “Gee, I’m sorry your pet worm died, and in such agony!”
Walt Disney Day: I have mixed feelings about Mr. Disney—Mickey Mouse is a mild derogatory in my vocabulary, and I’m not all that fond of Donald Duck, either. But I have a lot of happy memories from childhood for which he was responsible. While he is now somewhat controversial, only people who do things get criticized, and he did bring animation into the mainstream.
National Cotton Candy Day: Finally, a lighthearted topic that is also a sticky issue … This stuff is the best way I know to get a kid attached to anything: dirt, leaves, grass, bugs, and miscellaneous detritus. On a hot, sticky day at some amusement, it is a near perfect way to keep a kid from straying—just place him or her against an immovable object and they stick fast. Purveyors of this … stuff … should be required to issue a box of wet wipes with every sale.
And the horror is that Puck succeeded in pushing the glass away from the edge. And it did not fall over the edge. The glass tipped over, but did fall off of the table. Splash everywhere. The horror.
Oh Puck. You poor dear, sweet, tripod kitty. Trying to be so helpful and ending up being more naughty. Hopefully Santa can also see into your head and heart and see you were trying to help rather than be naughty.
Also I love the face that puck makes when the glass falls over, that is the perfect capture of, “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!” and “OH NO WHAT WILL I DOOOOO!!!”
Just remembered, today is Dec 7th, so 79 years ago was pearl harbor, I hope that anyone who has lost or known someone who has suffered from events that occurred afterwards has people to be comforted by and I hope that we will remember the tragedy of the following war.

This gives pucky “paws” to explain, “I only meant to keept the glass from spilling”
And the woman says, “well, it can’t spill NOW! Since you pre-spilled it!”
And Puck looks up, soulful eyes, small frown on his face, showing his disappointment.
OFF to the treat drawer, for little Puck! The woman knows he didn’t mean it! So I am sure Santa Knows, too!

Tonight you screwed up, completely
You gave your help so sweetly
Tonight a look of horror’s in your eyes
Please don’t feel bad tomorrow
Is this a lasting nightmare
Or just a moment’s despair
We do believe the tragic in your sighs
Please – no more anguish tomorrow
Tonight with words unspoken
We all fail, you aren’t the only one
And with the glass unbroken
It’s not the worst we’ve ever done
I’d like you to know that you are
The brightest, kindest star by far
So tell me now and I won’t ask again
Will you forget this tomorrow
We’ll all try again tomorrow
We’ll still love you tomorrow
Santa still loves you tomorrow

“SPLASH EVERYWHERE” reminded me of this observation by the great Ogden Nash:
“Either old magic or new math
Into our house has beat a path.
How else could Einstein or Diogenes
Explain this exploit of our progeny’s?
While at the table with his ilk
A child upsets a glass of milk.
The glass held half a pint when filled
And half a gallon when it spilled."

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: I’m going to the Great Pyramid to organize the latest archives. Be back in a few hours.
Puckmosis: OK. Have a safe trip. Is Kara taking you?
Beatrixia: Yes. It’s Hump Day even on a Monday.
Later, at the Great Pyramid
Beatrixia: That’s odd, my pile of archives are gone! What could’ve happened to them? Maybe I put them in the other room. Wait, what?
On the way back to the Palace
Beatrixia: And there they were, all filed and organized just the way I would have done it. Only I didn’t do it.
Kara: And you’re sure no one else could have organized them?
Beatrixia: Yes. Elvis-Anum, Puckmosis, and Lupinium knew my system, but who had time to go to the Great Pyramid?
Meanwhile, back at the Palace
Puckmosis: Elvis-Anum left out a bottle of ink on the edge of his desk. I’ll just move it to a safe place. Oh, no! What do I do now?
