If you want to cut the line at Newark Airport, just paint the words, “TRUMP” on the side of your airplane. This is not a partisan political commentary; it’s a commentary on how Americans worship celebrities.
I was at an airport when a local contestant for America’s Got Talent or some such show was ushered to the front of the line because, well, she was a celebrity. The rest of us probably work as hard for our livings, but she was accorded special privileges.
There has got to be a reason for all those celebrity endorsements like football players giving us investment advice. My dog can catch a ball better than any ball player, but I don’t ask him for advice.
My grandson has included me in playing with his Jurassic World Legos kits when I visit. Oh, the adventures we are having. I love being old, retired and deep into my second childhood.
Where Calvin has grown up and gone? First, he became a pilot, flying in acrobatic air shows but now he’s flying one of those no-frill, budget airlines. “Please locate the barf bag located in front of your seat.”
My mother used to do this, and would scoff when we told her it was so hot waiting in the car. At that time, no one considered this to be a particularly bad thing to do with children.
A child his age is safe in a car. If it gets hot he can open a door or window. Now, the bogey man is a different issue, buy you teach them to keep the doors locked.Babies and pets are the real problem.
We were on soap boxes the other day about when life went to heck. When hard working dad’s wages couldn’t support a family, and mom had to help out, it started up box dinners, easy snacks for latch key kids, and tv dinners. Resulting in massive trash and litter. ETC. (Mentioning only one of the rants.)
Everyone in this thread suffering from survivorship bias (I never got killed/injured/kidnapped so it should still be allowed/common practice) and also sighing for the “old days” conveniently forgetting all the nasty stuff that it was socially acceptable to do to non-white, non-christian or non-straight people.

If Calvin was an airplane, he would be grounded…and not because of pilot error.

Mom, wait until Calvin is 30 before you allow him to drive.

So in ‘94 parents would leave their kids alone in a car while they went shopping – or was it just Calvin’s mom?

Leaving the little cretin in a hot car with the windows rolled up would be wonderful.

This summer, 26 children (so far) have died from being left alone in cars standing in sweltering heat. Does Mom plan to make it 27??

I have to skip the strips done in this style; I find them very hard to read.

The Sunday drawings are showing Calvin’s imagination are always magnificent.

You’ve left Calvin in the car? ALONE?! Are you mad, woman?!

There is no other cartoon like Calvin and Hobbes. It’s truly a unique gem!

Cal didn’t need tv or other distractions from his imaginary world. Much more exciting than reality.

In the 60, 70´s the world was a relatively safe place for kids. Now, with technology, education and protection laws it isn´t even safe for adults.

I’m curious to see how this story unfolds with three planes.

Calvin would be an excellent pilot.

Better to leave the little imp in the car. Nothing or anything would dare do him any harm.

I love the way Calvin throws in a ‘moral of the story’ at the end—just like kids books used to do.

It’s ironic what happened with those flight attendants.

At Bush International Airport our plane taxied for almost five minutes, at one point it taxied over a six-lane freeway. Weird.

This brings back fond memories. My parents’ Pontiac made a great fighter jet. I’m a female, but I was a Tomboy. :-)
