I haven’t been a long-time reader of this ‘toon, but lots of posters have complained about how it took such a long time for Luann and company to graduate from high school.-And now look! They’re already at a New Year’s ‘party’ (but not a party, according to Luann), and all the rest of us still have to go to work tomorrow….

Wow, just look at all these “mature, responsible adults” whom Luann invited. It must have been a big job for Evans to add so many new characters to the cast!

I suppose blocking the doorway with the couch is one way of keeping parents from attending, but I suspect Frank won’t even notice it and will wind up doing a Dick van Dyke-style pratfall over the Ottoman.

I don’t think it was Bernice talking about herself as being one of the ones “not liking Tiffany” (maybe not totally). More along the lines of Luann, probably. Who knows? Maybe Toni? (shrugging)

On the other hand, Luann just explained to Crystal that Quill is bringing Mrs. Berger. So not all the girls are exactly paired off…

I wish Greg could bring back Gunther and Rosa. And delta. I miss them :( If only they could somehow show up at the party as a surprise.

And we still don’t know about Dez or Mr. Grey. I hope Ms. B brings him to the party.

If Quill is bringing Mrs. Berger, then the “unpaired” girl at the party is Luann.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s a 4th wall breach, where Toni speaks for Greg, and Brad speaks for the readers.

Greg’s not dumb, he knows his audience wants to get on with the wedding already.

And for the record, Greg certainly doesn’t think he’s depicting a crumbling relationship. I’m sure he intends it to last unto eternity.

Oh come ON! Tiffany is a conceited, self indulgent, self serving, narcissistic little shrew. But I guess SOME one has to bear the brunt and be the bad guy.

Oxford immediately inquires after the girl he fancies. It is a terrible faux pas by Luann if she has invited all the old high school group with the sole exception of Tiffany! Knute continues to amaze with his gaucherie; Toni is quick enough to deflect Knute’s impolitic interrogation, though not without Brad’s moment of befuddlement.Other than all that, I do like Luann’s dress. Too bad about all those staples visible in the wall.

Greg Evans is basically depicting an engagement between two people who discuss toilet paper, but not each other’s anxieties or concerns about important stuff. That’s about as funny as a rubber crutch!

Interesting Bernice is smack talking Tiffany after Tiffany gave her a make over and opened her room to her after Bernice refused to see an RA about Pyro. As goody two shoes as Bernice and Luann make themselves out to be it seems like they’ve got no problem using Tiffany and trashing her when she’s not useful to them. That being said, so glad Toni and Brad have absolutely no friends their age and have to hang out with Luann’s high school friends.

Where is Toni’s engagement ring?

Wasn’t there a point where Tiff and Ox were seeming a bit “friendly”?

Tiff would have a fit if she knew there was a party she was not invited to.

I don’t think they ever will be married; Brad’s too nice, too needy and too clingy; Toni’s commitment phobic and in her heart of hearts, is a sick woman who needs to be abused by a man.

Why is Gunther’s mom going to a teen party? Where is her boyfriend (the one Gunther freaked out over?).

At this point, it could be that Mr. E. is having Crystal and Tiff to drift Sometimes it does happen that way, people that are like; “Oh, we’ll be best friends, foreva…and evah…” and then one day, “boom!” You realize that it’s been months since you last talked to them.. (And you may also suddenly realize that you don’t like Gouda cheese, after all …) – Or it could be that Greg just didn’t think about how he’s now having a “tendency” for drawing them in situations where they’re not together so often. He’s stated publicly that there have been times where some things he drew, he didn’t realize that certain “implications” were being given off, until either his wife or daughter (or the publishing syndicate or even some readers) called it to his attention, later on…

So will Tiffany be alone on New Year’s Eve? Oh yeah, she’s the character whom we are supposed to hate, because she’s so popular.

Tiffany isn’t there because she’s at a real party. You know, with alcohol and other substances and no losers. But never mind: Gunther’s mom will pep things right up. Pardon me while I slit my wrists.

Let’s get on with the Brad and Toni nuptials and get them on their honeymoon! Way too long a time and they are more interesting than the diatribe of Gunther, etc.

Toni is going to string Brad along for a long time. I predict Brad will give Toni an ultimatum eventually when he gets tired of waiting and begins to wonder how Toni really feels about their relationship.

Bernice said she =thinks= Luann’s only invited people everyone likes—Luann probably =has= invited Tiffany and Tiff is just being fashionably late. Agree that it was so inept of Bernice to slam Tiffany to Ox. Sad trombone for Ox, who had hoped for a smooch from Tiff under the mistletoe. Hopefully the Tiffster will show and grace them all with her presence. :-) And…will this be the year that Knute and Crystal finally, finally, =finally= get to kiss each other, at midnight, with the mistletoe assist??? I’ll fall out of my chair if they do, but the Rainbow can always hope.

Interesting how Crystal is there but her best friend – Tiffany – is not.

Hmmm.. does Brad have a few grey hairs? Maybe its just the way it’s drawn.. because if that were the case then Knute would be totally grey. Still, there’s white flecks in Brad’s hair. Knute’s is just thin and scraggly so there’s daylight between the strands…

When did Crystal pass over to the light side?This is the first time I have noticed.

".Nobody in the Luann Universe hates anybody.She just irritates some of them.Some show her pity.There is a bit of jealousy at times (don’t hate me because I’m beautiful) but not real hatred.And some of us like her since she hasn’t hurt us.(we wouldn’t feel completely safe, knowing she has been known to lie and manipulate, but some women do such things. you learn to live with the truth.)

Without a common denominator (high school), the characters are at loose ends. Only Tiffany (MIA), Knute, Crystal, Gunther, and Rosa are interesting cartoon characters. Delta, Toni, Brad, and Bernice have matured to the point of dullness. Luann’s only yardstick in life is the cuteness of her latest boyfriend. Ox needs a new shirt. Frank and Nancy have the potential to generate some adult heat, but Gunther’s mom and Mr. Grey do not. Quill is just another pale character in Luann’s revolving door and could exit without being missed. Dirk and wife could have potential because he is someone who has turned his life around.

And then Ox would assault that person for bullying.

I really hope Tiff does right by Ox. I can’t see her having any kind of long term relationship with him. But I can see her using him as her “tool” until his “services are no longer required.” I also see her leading him on as if there might be some “relationship in the making” as incentive for his being her tool.

I hope this isn’t what’s happening. If nothing else, she should make it clear that this is purely a Platonic thing and that they are just friends. She needs to ensure that he understands that. I’m not sure he does.

“Anticipation” Wasn’t that a “pop” song?! And, why oh Why is Mrs. B invited? That is rather incongruent, don’t you think?!

And then there is Tiff’s absence. OK, I’ll bet there will be quite a post by RB2 defending her… Actually, I did think Tiff would be invited, but she wasn’t. Who is to say that Tiff didn’t get invited to other parties such as the one those guys (who helped her to move into her suite at MU) are probably hosting along with their girlfriends. That may or may not be helpful because of the girlfriends… And even Ox doesn’t seem to miss Tiff all that much as he is at Luann’s party and doesn’t seem to be very upset that Tiff wasn’t invited… This is the place where everyone is secretly missing Tiff, but doesn’t want to admit it. Just some musings… ;)
