Well, it’s gonna be Wall Street in here, now- We’ll be like “Speculators” anticipating "Futures"… our “mad rush” to “buy and sell” …this strip may probably be generating a lot of "Interest"… – But in all actuality, it could be most likely just the fact that Gunther doesn’t want it to be known that he likes Tiffany- and also that they were able to work well, and he enjoyed being around her…

“…If it was just simple homework doings or lab partnering stuff, there would be no need to keep that a secret.”^Not if the secret is the fact that Gunther actually thinks Tiffany isn’t all that bad, or if he is thinking of her as someone that he could like. A lot of people could tease or “berate” him for liking a girl that some have on their list of “the most annoying” people…. especially if one of them is named “Luann”…..

You need to take a look at the comments on the ArcaMax site, instead of just Comics Curmudgeon. There’s a very angry discussion about the fact that Evans fathered a child out of wedlock and abandoned that child, and the thought of some posters is that he is repeating that with Gunther.-Not my idea; I don’t post with Disqus. But a totally different direction…

My family has a history of adopting kids who were abandoned, and the kids go through a lot of misery, wondering why they weren’t good enough to keep and so on. One of the many reasons why I despised Steve Jobs.

I would welcome a story about kids in genuinely interesting college classes that give them new ideas about their future, but I guess that’s not on anyone’s agenda…

from implied things in the past, both G and Tiff are still virgins(flirting is not same thing as doing it), but lot of people in other places on web are taking it “as fact” that they went all the way and even speculating if they did or did not take “precautions” so they would not be parents, is more likely that the farthest they got was some french kissing

Evans did not “abandon” his son, he and his wife (girlfriend at the time) decided that they weren’t ready to raise a child and gave the baby up for adoption. And from what we know, the baby was adopted by a loving and attentive mother. Argythree – I can’t speak from personal experience as you can, but surely not all adoptions are seen as “abandonments” and filled with misery?

Quill is taking advantage of Gunther’s perturbed state to try to trick him with word games. But Gunther has managed to fend him off. Nothing of the kind that the prurient fantasize about happened between Tiffany and Gunther, but it is possible that one or both may be developing some feelings for the other. We shall see as the story unfolds….

I am, as well, disappointed we didn’t learn more about the “encounter.” Greg does appear to be getting much better at “teasing” his audience and leaving them “wanting more…” Or, perhaps, this is Karen’s influence. Whatever…. I guess we’ll have to wait. I also agree that the arc will change again, this coming week.

We have found out that Tiffany has been raised by indifferent parents who denied her affection. This explains Tiffany’s constant search for approval. Tiffany is actually a likable character.

Sex is normal adult behavior. College is not high school in which teasing should matter anymore. The issue switches from avoiding teasing to respecting other’s privacy and relationships.

I hope that, in the future, we find that Gunther treated Tiffany’s feelings and his relationship with her with proper respect. Tiffany deserves that for a change.

Not sure what to think here. My most prominent impression is the negative reaction I have to Gunther’s expression in panel 2. To me it reads rather “snarky” and appears as if he is attempting to suggest “tawdriness” to whatever happened or didn’t happen between he and Tiffany. If Gunther and Tiffany when to any level of bases (1,2,3, or even 4 (home plate)), I would hope that Gunther would not adopt a “conquest” facial expression or mindset. It is not the way I would want his character to behave. If he did not reach even 1st base, then the “conquest” sort of facial expression is a ruse he is using at Tiffany’s expense to “better” his own standing. Neither scenario is an appealing behavior from Gunther, and this, unfortunately is the way I tend to read his snarky expression in panel 2. I think it would be nice for Gunther to evolve into a relationship (with Tiffany, or Bernice, or Luann, or whomever) in a “nicer” fashion like is being portrayed for Brad. Not an engagement and wedding scenario at this stage, but just a nice, kind, fun and respectful sort of relationship.

Quoth one reader: " I’d prefer the truth, myself." and yet, in the same post this one says, “If he did sleep with her, I find it kinda sad that he didn’t defend her here.“She has claws”.“Yeah, she’s evil, but I slept with her anyway”Shouldn’t Gunther have some respect for people he sleeps with? Thought he was supposed to be a “good guy”.”

He’d be an idiot to deny she has claws, when she’d clawed him in the past. On the other hand, saying that she has not clawed him this time shows him to really be a good guy, because he’s acknowledging her capacity to change for the better. In other words, he’s being honest, but kind.

I learn a lot about people by reading these comments. People get angry at Bernice for providing Luann with reality checks. They get upset with Dez for being harmlessly authentic to who she really is. And now upset with Gunther for loving without being blind. Our culture now seems to put a high value on dishonesty and refusal to face reality—even in symbols of reality loosely sketched in a comic strip.

Saying he’d sleep with her just because she’s pretty doesn’t hold water when she’s shown him herself without makeup and with messy hair. I personally don’t think sleeping-with happened (the heating coffee strip showed that neither of them wanted to go there, though their bodies were interested.) I think what happened was long talking, perhaps with kissing and cuddling, and taking the relationship further on a more wholesome level than a tawdry “I helped you with bug bites so you owe me sex.”

But if it did go all the way, Gunther is a gentleman—he’s refusing to kiss and tell. Shame on Quill for pressing the point after getting a number of clear cut “No!”s from Gunther.

Tiffany could only benefit from a relationship with Gunther. With his natural timidity he would hardly be Petruchio to her Kate but he is really the only Luann character with the kindness, intelligence, and patience to drill through that armor of vanity and arrogance to find out if there is a decent person buried somewhere in there.

about Tiff……………… the usual “assumptions” is that she is “easy with the cute guys”, but so far all it has been shown is that she is flirty(which is not same thing as “doing it”) but on her own words “never had a serious relationship AT ALL” (which most likely indicates a strong chance that she is still a virgin) AND that she is a natural dimwit when many times it has been shown that in “her element” (makeups, fashion, showing confidence, influencing people) she is quite smart, if anything, shows 1) she is lazy in studying things with no interest for her, 2) many times she refuses(or decides not to show it to others) to see anything in her life in a negative way and insists all her goals and dreams going to come true in a way that comes of as full arrogance and indifference toward others, but when she HAS TO come to bat, many times she actually comes through. So……………… No0, I don’t see her seducing Gunther all the way, and I neither see Gunther forcing Tiff to go all the way…………… most likely they french kissed and maybe did some touching but there was no intercourse, and even if they do it, I think after the reading, their body metabolism got real hot, and BOTH succumbed to it without either pressuring the other to do it…………. IF they did it, is more likely that they are in the “not sorry it happened but at same time was too soon as we have not fallen in love yet” stage and we do not know if it is G’s first time(if it happened) or he did already with Rosa(is possible but seems unlikely) or he is still a virgin

An even lower bar (more like a trap door, leading to a pit of quicksand) are the forums on Facebook. Even when the subject is one of note (such as recent news/sports stories), or is posted by the well established TV/Radio/Print news/entertainment media, some quickly turn it into a degrading session of “trading jabs and insults” (even use of terms like: “Go kill yourself”- an actual response by “an adult”), and when people disagree, the “race card” (or whatever “measure of division” is available) gets played, until it’s the equivalent of “kids in the backseat of the family ride”… - And then once in a while, some of the pics a few might post- the kind you’d have to use the “family code” on the TV/Cable box to view…

Not likely to be all that interesting, however. No character development likely.

Some “Hanging Arcs” will HAVE to be addressed, it would seem. .For example, the “Summer Trip to NY” should be addressed before Summer is over. .So that issue could well come up on Monday. (Nancy will decide to go along as chaperone.). We should see the end of Luann’s school year ( the art class etc. ) But we may not, her life at Pitts College seems hardly to exist in this story. .There are several hanging aspects related to Bernice’s dorm, but none seem to mean much thus far. None of the characters there is interesting. (Well, maybe Dez a little.).June is the season for weddings, so the Brad-Toni Arc could return soon. Doubt it though. That may go on another year or two.

That last strip, about how TJ learns mainly not to get caught, is revealing. If he and Frank do strike a deal to renovate the warehouse, probably TJ will insist that they spend a lot on insurance, to take out a policy for way more than the building is worth. Then as soon as a kitchen is installed, there’s a fire…

Yep, definitely. If this had been the pre-Peru Gunther, he’d have come home a nervous wreck, no matter what happened. This arc has been interesting, especially when viewed along side with the individual histories of Tiffany and Gunther (as seen over the course of the strip).

While I don’t expect Luann to become 9 Chickwood Lane anytime soon, it would be interesting to see an alternate run of strips in which Evans could roam unchained and present ideas in a way that didn’t necessarily played nice in the family friendly sort of way.

Prediction: We’ll see another arc picked up on Monday, and this one will be revisited down the line. In any event, I am good with the adventures of Luann and Co.
