Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for June 11, 2015
June 10, 2015
June 12, 2015
Transcript:
Dad: "Kinda captures our daughter's moods..."
Dez: "The conflicting vibes are SO harmonized!"
Bernice: "I think it represents the shift to adulthood"
Toni: "I think it's about being a woman"
Shannon: "I think someone stepped on it"
As usual, everybody’s “on cue” with bringing forth their individual “Perception/Perspective/Points of view”, unique to each one…. -
That mask probably could’ve melted a bit more, if one of them forgot to bring their mints… – “(♪)….Everybody got mixed feelings, about the function and the form….(♪)”
Luann seems to have invited everyone she knows to her class’s art exhibition … but where are her classmates? Even Knute, Crystal, and TJ are there, but where are Mr. Jock, Mr. Goth, and anyone else from the class? At least they should be hanging around somewhere nearby.
Why are the only people attending this art show Luann’s friends, including those who have no reason whatsoever to be there? (e.g., Knute has never been to an art show in his life.) When Bernice said, “Who needs ’em!”, was she eliminating the Pitt CC student body from the strip along with the Mooney Uni drama students?
The funniest thing is, in yesterday’s toon, Quill is apologizing to Luann because the papier mache mask was ruined when he was removing it from her face. Now here are all our critics,‘explaining’ the meaning of the messed-up mask.
Reminds me of a writer’s conference I once attended. Professors were expounding seriously on the deep meaning in some of the works by the famous SF writers who were sitting in the back of the auditorium. I was close enough to the writers to hear them laughing and saying ‘That has nothing to do with what I was trying to say…’
“About Face”“Putting Up A Front”“Façade Fodder”“Keeping Down Appearances”“A Visage Massage”“An Image To Maintain”“Displaying For Keeps”“Air, Apparently”“Luann A La Mold”“The Cheekbone’s Connected To The…Third Occipital…Thingy…” (♪)“You Can Display An Accordion, But You Can’t Tuna Melt”“Don’t Count Out A Countenance”or“You Won’t Miss Your Water, Until Your Mâché Runs Dry”
Why do you read Luann?1) 31 votes – For the stories2) 29 votes – For the characters3) 28 votes – For the character interactions4) 9 votes – For the artwork5) 9 votes – Other (various reasons)
The other artists will arrive, and one will complain that the tag on his work is misspelled, it should be J-a-c-q-u-e-s, and that the instructor has been making fun of him all along.
I have not commented in many months but I can’t resist commenting today. Some of these comments are sorry to say so far off the mark to me, totally clueless. One comment has Crystal talking to TJ and eying him as if there is some kind of romantic interest. The whole idea of Crystal and Knute is that opposites attract. I think the more perceptive point is that Crystal is showing legs (nice ones), smiling, and does not look as Goth (who always has shorts on), and Knute, who clearly is her bf, actually looks nicely dressed, for him. The fact that Greg has 11 characters in one long panel, in a nice perspective is great, and I think Shannon is cute, and out of the mouths of babes. Also of course Brad and Toni are acting as surrogate parents which is very significant in this strip. Also the fact that not everyone is in the strip just means that we are looking at different parts of the gallery, and all the characters who are usually in the strip might be in another part of the gallery, and some are not even in town, Delta for example who is at Howard University. I just think this is a really sweet rite of passage kind of panel for the different characters as they get older surrounding the head of Luann, who the strip is about after all, I think it portends some future events, such as the wedding of Toni and Brad, and maybe let me throw everything to the winds, another (?) proposal on the part of Quill, but most of all it shows our characters in a really nice, sweet, and well-drawn light. Thanks Greg!!
about the “Luann characters” being only ones shown, it gives a certain air of “what the heck?” as it does not make sense………………. I am taking it as “we have to imagine that there are more people than the regular ones” but Greg decided to not even bother with shadow silhouette to make the room more filled……………………
in a way it makes sense for Dez to be there as she has not become just Bern’s roommate, but is now an acquaintance of Luann on her way to be a friend, while the others(Sun, Viper and others) haven’t made an actual rapport with Luann ………….. Luann’s art classmates? we have to imagine them there but they are just “classmates” of Lue and have not develop a possible friendship with her. thus they are not interacting with her and her friends and family………………….. right now the one who is not there and it does not make sense is Gunther (and if he comes, his mom) while Tiff is essentially 50-50, where Lue would not go out of her way to ask her to come, but she will welcome her if she came, and the only one other person I would not be surprised if it shows up is Ox(he was even invited to the new years thing)
I realize that Delta is out of town now and was therefore unable to attend this show, but it would be nice to see her mentioned. When was the last time her name was brought up?
I would ask why you continue to read something that you have such a low opinion of, but then our resident critic would criticize me for trying to keep you from voicing your opinion.
So I will simply exercise my right to scroll past anything you post in future. And also my right to flag your post as #&^%@$=
I have a brand-new and abiding respect for that little brat Shannon. She’s the only one here who can tell the difference between s—t and shinola. She and the little boy who noticed the emperor had no clothes are siblings under the skin.
I think it was her first try and came out a little messed up. Anyone remember the “Pinkasso” episode of Pinky and the Brain where Brain tricked a bunch of art snobs into spending millions of dollars on canvases he splashed with paint claiming it was a bold new art form? The commentary in this comic reminds me of it.
@Meh~tdologyThat Annie Hall clip was great. Now how about Luann breaking the wall and pulling Greg Evans in from off camera? And maybe a link to Keaton in Mr. Goodbar?
Why do you read Luann?1) 31 votes – For the stories2) 29 votes – For the characters3) 28 votes – For the character interactions4) 9 votes – For the artwork5) 9 votes – Other (various reasons)-6) 44 votes – For the Comments. (So what if this doesn’t add up to 100)
JimT8 said@argythreeWe have already been told this is the day before the opening. And why would anyone expect one panel—even a large one—to show everyone there? . . . . "-——————————————There must be at least seven other luckless students in this horrid class with Luann. .That’s how many other repulsive “works of art” I count on exhibition.
“So I will simply exercise my right to scroll past anything you post in future. And also my right to flag your post as #&^%$=”.And then the object of your ire (somehow autofill decided I meant “off” when I typed “ire”) deleted its comment, leaving me wondering which was the culprit..Such is life.
Wow— just realized, this is an incredible place to do Christmas shopping. Impress the recipient with “high art”, and they’d never know how cheap it was.
Well, Dave, a hint. In Renoir’s atelier was an object that was supposed to be faience, but wasn’t. And an important visitor picked it up under a misapprehension.
Luann’s botched up project is not just ugly, its repulsive. On a positive note, it is good to see Crystal & Knute. Still together, but not touching. It’s like they are already married.
Possibly the Nastyguy whose comment aroused annoyance was actually zapped by the Guardians of this site, since he (or she) had described this week’s arc as a type of human waste product…

Crystal seems to be eyeing TJ. I don’t see that one happening. However I can’t say that Knute is right for her.
