The very fact that quill knows exactly what’s wrong speaks volumes… and Gunth points out it’s quite obvious that he’s got time for other things.

Welcome to relationships Quill, you need to make time…You are both in college now, find time – lunch dates, dinner dates… I couldn’t find time then either, but I was a full time student with a full time job… I’d say you’ve got quite a bit more time than you realize, you’re just preoccupied

Gunther’s little joke reveals his true desire! And Tiffany would be responsive, because Gunther treats her with respect and not just lust alone. They would make a good couple, though if they do get together I’d feel sorry for Oxford….I guess Quill and Luann will eventually resolve their little spat, but as time—lots of it—goes by their “romance” looses interest….

False equivalency. Gunther doesn’t have a girlfriend, so he’s not spending a lot of time with “another” woman while ignoring his gf as Quill has been doing. I thought Luann was being very cool and mature about the situation until the last straw caused her to finally blow up, which I can’t blame her for after the incredible lack of sensitivity on the part of Quill.

7While Quill has never been my favorite character, and I have never found much interest in the Quill/Luann relationship…. I have to say that currently, Quill is quite wise. He knows and understands the problems in his relationship and he correctly shows how he is basically between a rock and a hard place…. namely Luann is being unreasonable on several different levels (IMO):1. Quill is learning and developing through college and is trying to gain the knowledge and experience he needs to pursue what is HIS hoped for career goal. 2. Quill is also working quite extensively HELPING Luann’s whole family with their somewhat “shaky” business venture. 3. Luann is “pouting/complaining” about not spending enough time with Quill, about Prudence (who is also volunteering to help out Luann’s family), and indirectly about Quill’s focus on learning skills to pursue his career goals. I am all for love and romance, and I am very fortunate to have an incredibly loving, romantic wife and my wonderful kids. But, geez, give Quill a break, Luann. I understand the college world, and realize to get a lot out of it, you need to immerse yourself into that world. In my own circumstance, I did very little dating (and none of it seriously) while in college. Graduate school and its rigors also meant I only dated sporadically at that time. But once I graduated and had acquired the skills necessary to obtain a professorship…. then I was able to meet and fall in love with the woman who is the love of my life. It would have been nice to meet her earlier, but I am fortunate and blessed with how my circumstances occurred. So, IMO, Luann is being unreasonable on a variety of levels. She really should focus more on HERSELF and her own goals… and less on “the relationship”.As for Gunther… well…. I can understand his feeble attempt at “bravado” with Quill… but a) he needs a better, stronger poker face to pull it off, and b) shave off the scruff or let the beard and moustache grow out.

“Where one spends the majority of their time is where their heart is. Simple as that.”.Yes but there’s two aspects to this – theater AND Pru. Apparently Quill is using and developing his theater skills by working on the stage/theater at The Fuse. He really cares about the theater. Of course, working a project of shared interest with someone (Pru) can lead to attraction & romantic interest. But that would be a fallout of sharing an interest..Imagine if Quill were to take time to spend time with Luann. What would they do or talk about? How boring her college classes are?

I guess that means a majority of people are secretly in love with their jobs, given that they spend a majority of their time there. Why does anybody even bother asking Quill if he’s in love with Prudence if his answer doesn’t even get taken into consideration. He’s denied it to literally EVERYONE, and Pru herself has indicated that she is just a friend. Quill spends time with her to focus on his career; he’s not going on picnics with her or anything or anything. This mindset goes beyond mere jealousy: Quill has flat-out denied any feelings, so now his integrity is being called into question with each accusation. Be careful going down this path.

Quill thinks Prudence is his ticket to The Big Time. He thinks he can act the part of boyfriend just long enough to get where he wants. If you look at it this way, Luann was just a stepping stone to get a foothold here in the States.

-I guess you’ve forgotten that when Luann wanted to stay to clean up the place with Quill and Prudence, Prudence told her to ‘shoo’ and Quill didn’t object at all.

Oh, and Luann still is apparently going to school (since she was reading a textbook on European History in Sunday’s ‘toon.) And for all we know, she may still be working with children after their school lets out.

So she may actually have something ’better to do’ than volunteer to work at the Fuse and have Prudence tell her to shoo.

I think that Quill is going to have to do at least a couple of things, if he still wants a relationship with Luann:1. Find time for her. I understand being busy with these other things, but figuring out a way to be with your gal should be a little higher on the list.2. If he obviously knows that “everybody” thinks that he and Pru are secret lovers, then it’s time to clear the air about that, in no uncertain terms.

And, for her part of it, maybe Luann needs to be more trusting of her guy, too.

    And that’s my half-a-cent on that. :)

Luann is in school, working at the after school program & generally looking for one uninterrupted night occasionally with Quill. She’s not actually asking for him to drop everything & laze away, just to have their dates actually be about them spending time with each other. And she’s definitely been at the Fuse as well. But if she’s helping with the rest of the building while Quill spends his time helping Pru then no, they aren’t spending much time together and she’s right to have a problem with it. Especially since Quill seems completely uninterested in actually listening to her or to anyone else that sees a problem with his behavior.

BOTH are actively ending the relationship, just in different ways.1. People get what they work hard enough to get and retain.2. Relationships die without work by both parties.3. Quill knows he is not devoting time to Luann. He admits that. Luann had figured she could make up for that, but now is realizing that although she is used to being with Quill she might not love him and perhaps not even much like him now. 4. Being a couple has become more of a habit than a choice.5. Pru is NOT the main problem for the couple remaining a couple. Her desire to have Luann’s family might become more of a difficulty.6. They are still VERY young, with loads of time to learn more with various people before settling down. When people find themselves in a situation where BOTH parties want to place the other first then something to preserve has occurred. 7. Love is not a conserved sensation. Even when it has happened once (as did first for me at 17) it WILL happen again if a person lets life flow. One thing i have noticed is that multiple people here, gender independent, who have long term and successfully happy relationships have all been saying 1 and 2, and sometimes some of the other 5 points. Sometimes there are strong lessons when multiple successful people say the same thing. That seems to be the case here, though some are avoiding trying to listen to what could become kind, if indirect, advice. So, why argue? Even if the two characters both try harder now it is almost inevitable that this relationship in this condition is toast.

Implausible, WHY would breaking up w Luann affect his status? They are not even engaged let alone married, and she is too young w too few resources to be his sponsor. Dating her has squat to do w being a foreign student in a U.S. school w a student visa. There are lots of foreign students in U.S. higher education. They typically pay higher tuitions, have the school or an adult in loco parentis unless they are emancipated youths or older than 21, and often settle in the U.S. after school.

Difference between Quill and Gunther. Gunther doesn’t have a girlfriend while spending more and more time with Tiffany. Quill needs to understand that he can’t keep telling Luann he has no time for her while making time for Prudence without her thinking he’s cheating.

any busy person with half a brain can figure out how to let that special person know he (or she) cares. There have been many times (I’m sure ) when Quill and Luann were both working at the FUSE. Quill could easily take 30 seconds to run over and give Luann a hug or maybe kiss her on the trap in front of Pru. Something like that would have prevented a lot of angst.
