“The names were changed, to protect the record…” – “…and so was the needle in the tonearm…” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR-haaB0UhY ) -Would be a “hoot and a half”, if it was the “long haired Bernice” (maybe resembling the person in the link, above)…and if it were only “5 years ago”, somewhere in the recesses of her HS days… – ….or was it in the rolic and romp in the “recesses of their Kindergarten?” – Any way you slice it, the question is: "Which is more embarrassing: 1) Someone coming along and bringing up a time you’d just as soon forget… or 2) Someone coming along, bringing up the possibility that they possess a name that you just as soon forgot ?

Anyone have that older family friend or relative who asks the really stupid question: “The last time I saw you, you were six months old. Do you remember me?”

Bernice has “folks”? They must be recluses. Well, lady has ring, so she must be married. Probably one of Greg’s family or friends doing a cameo.

Evans always comes up fresh on drawing the new characters. However I think that’s it for this one…

Interesting that the drink cups Luann and Bernice have say ‘K2’ on them. So they are eating at TJ’s Kafe Kablooie. The fact that someone they don’t remember is there suggest that ‘K2’ must be doing well, not relying just on Luann’s friends…

I have SO been there…chatting along, hoping against hope that I can remember the name, but never admitting it. “Yeah, good to see you, too!”

@ airman: Yeah Bernice has folks . We saw…. or at least heard from her mom once when Bernice’s Brother Ben tracked down his birth family and we learned that Bernice’s mom got pregnant while she was in college and they gave him up for adoption. I miss Ben. Wish he would make an appearance again.

Unless I am very sure we’ll recognize each other, I throw in a “[my FULL name] from [where we worked, our common friend, a shared professor, an event, etc.]” and then the one under assault can come back with a genuine “of COURSE I remember you!” or they have an out an can blame their faulty memory or something else that is their failing. I was in the receiving line at a funeral, and several people I really did know well from my youth came up to me and I had NO clue who they were. But over the years our faces fill out or hair color changes – things like that – and people can deviate quite dramatically from their high school yearbook faces. Nose jobs will do that, too.

Is it me, or does this strip evoke memories of another “Luann” Sunday strip? (You all know the one I’m referring to!)

She recognized Bernice so I doubt she was that much younger when she last saw her. Most of us run into people from our past we don’t remember without prodding at least once.

That happens to me all the time. Every class I teach, particularly large ones, I apologize in advance for my inability to remember names, even though faces seem to hang in there longer. I like the way that GE drew the politeness shown to someone Bernice’s short to mid-term memory cannot recover. Of course Bernice cannot use the excuse a lot of us Baby Boomers can involving, pot, and/or booze, and dying brain cells (lol), but really I think its not that unusual. I have been the subject of it myself as well, This is another of those foible Sunday interludes in Lunannverse, so I wonder if we will continue on the prep to the wedding theme, or will there be a totally different arc? The wedding is only a couple months away—predicted date 12/11/16—which in Luannverse time is like RIGHT NOW!! So……

I HATE it when people do that!!

Would it kill them to say, “I’m (name), I used to (fill in the blank)” just so I have a clue who they are? Even if you think they remember you anyway, it never hurts to throw out a reminder.

5As a professor, this happens to me all the time. With having taught upwards of 10-15 thousand students over the years, I very frequently run into students and unfortunately for some I cannot recall who they are or what class they were in, for others, I can recognize the face and place the class they were in but cannot remember their name, and then for a smaller subset, I can remember their name. In terms of non-student individuals where this happens to me… yes this happens occasionally to me in this manner as well. Unfortunately, sometimes I have sort of “presumed” the person was a former student and ask them about what is going on now that they are out of the University…. and this then backfires. After a few mishaps like this, I have learned to be more careful and more generalized until I can feel things out.

Oooh, I hate when this happens. It just happened a couple days ago, ran it to someone who knew me well but I would have had a better chance on knowing the average citizen of north Siberia. If you engage then in conversation you will always put your foot in your mouth, "How’s your parents?’ “Oh they died two weeks ago”.

What’s even worse, is when I recognise someone, then, either because I name them and they say “That isn’t me” or, I get face to face and realise myself, that they aren’t who I thought they were; very embarrassing!!

Luann and Bernice have birthdays some Septembers, but i think Delta was in somevMarches, and this excellent past Sunday one relates to a topic which often arises in the comments section, Luann’s hopes, wishes, and direction:http://www.gocomics.com/luann/2011/03/06

    Clues for the clueless:

This person knows (or knew) Bernice’s parents. This person knew Bernice recently enough to recognize her. Bernice did not recognize (or did not remember) this person.

My best guess: some former professional acquaintance. Could theoretically be a teacher or school administrator from Bernie’s past, but I think Bernie would remember her in that case. Maybe a dentist’s or doctor’s assistant? Also possible: a former neighbor, not known closely by Bernice herself but a friend of her family nonetheless….

The red-haired girl isn’t drawn in the usual “Luann” style, so I’m guessing “crossover character”. Hmmm…red hair…round glasses…somewhat squinty eyes and “sweat-fleck” in 2nd panel…could this be an older version of Margaret from “Dennis the Menace”?
