Jack gallantly “rescues” Luann from an uncomfortable situation.
He Opens the truck door for her.
Jack let’s Luann call the next move and leaves it up to HER whether she wants to go home or not.
And note, that Lu says its early, indicating to ME, at least that She WANTS to spend MORE time with him. And does Jack suggest that they go to his place, so Luann can “Pounce Him,” like that Scumbag Les boasted about Tiffany ? Nope. It’s “Let’s play Miniature Golf until midnight.” In a Public Place Yet.
Look out and alert the media, Luann. You got a real “No Strings Attached” Gentleman on your hands. A rare breed of male that is slowly but surely going the way of the dinosaur, on that long winding path toward extinction.
Of course it’s up to You, Ms. DeGroot, but you might seriously consider dating the guy, if he asks. If for nothing else, then to let your daughter know one day, of that long gone era when Uncompromising guys like Jack, once roamed the earth like the brontosaurus. ;)
Did she find Tara and let her know or did she just ditch her? Tara is the party girl and she is not so she was out of her element so did she just slip out and was relieved to get away, figuring Tara is with her friends and would be fine. Anyway, three was a crowd. She is alone with Jack now.
You can tell the party was intense from the syncopated rhythms and the floating 16th notes. Now if it was nice, family-oriented quarter notes, that would be another story.
I hope luann and jack have a good time in mini golf, that there are no incidents like when they played bowling, one more thing, I admit I had my doubts about whether jack was good for luann, but after today, no doubt jack is good for luann.
I think Greg gave Jack an overhaul or a personality transplant. Initially, Jack was a doofus, unappealing, too jocky with a wandering eye…now I am seeing a different Jack – caring, funny, responsible, mature, etc. Makes me wonder if he read the comments and realized if he wants or intends Jack for Luann, he gotta make him a better guy, that nobody would believe Luann would go for the former Jack and she didn’t.
His “impressive putt” could mean many things, none of them having to do with golf. Aye yi yi, Greg, are you an awkward family strip or an awkward adult strip?
Ugh. What a nothing ending! And what happened to Tara? Did they leave her behind? Maybe there will be some repercussions if something happens to her. That could thicken the plot. This is a letdown right now!
All this concern about Tara. 1) She didn’t call for a “rescue.” Luann did. 2) Luann used the word intense re the party. Not threatening. 3) We’ll know at the next classroom event, if not sooner.
The great golfer Arnold Palmer told Johnny Carson that his wife always kissed his balls for good luck. Carson famously replied, “I bet that makes your putter stand up.”
Re: people’s earlier concern that something bad might happen at the party. I wonder whether that might still happen to Tara in some way? Not that I want that, but I guess we might find out next week, if they stick with the arc.
Luann & Jack will edge toward a romantic moment – then Luann’s phone goes “rrriinnngg” and it’s Tara. The police busted the party and Tara needs Luann & Jack to get her out of jail.
Jack must be made of money. Monster truck tickets and mini golf, you can be looking at an expensive night. At least the ever popular college house party is free. Also feel bad for Tiff. She sensed Jack was a great guy & hit on him. She could really use a break from the Gunther’s and Les’s of the world and it’s not like she isn’t trying. Jack can make his move for Luann if that’s what he wants, but Luann isn’t really bringing much to the relationship (vs. Tiff). I guess the good guys are really attracted to the un ambitious girls.
So after her brief experience in an adult party, Luann retreats back into her comfort zone of kiddie-friendly, wholesome fun. Yet in her mind she’s a wild rebel because she dared to sit in the VIP section of the arena.
Few things are as eye-rollingly unbearable as a boring person who thinks they’re exciting or a lame person who thinks they’re cool.
Here’s the thing: Jack is now a major character… he made the transition this week. Clue? Thought balloon… we’d never before been shown what he was thinking, only what he was saying, but earlier this week (when he was worrying about Luann) we were shown his thoughts. I don’t recall that ever being the case with Aaron Hill, so he’s already ahead on the boyfriend front.
Jack is a gentleman but the interesting thing is that every impression we had of him when they (Nil, Jack, Luann) were in art class together is gone. Clearly, he cares about Luann but he is not coming on to her the way he once did (in art class); he was freshman then. A year of college and a professional direction has caused him to grow up. His approach to relationships is different too.
Does Luann realize that she is actually having a Good Time while out with Jack? If not, when will the lightning strike? Jack is a viable potential boyfriend, and goodness knows that Luann could use one….
The sight of a couple making out and a little loud music was too much for a 19 or 20-year old college…. junior? Why is Luann literally the most boring character on the comics pages? She spends her entire existence on the margins of society watching other people do interesting things and never ever takes the slightest risk herself…I mean she makes her money at the public library for crying out loud…. I ask again… this strip is supposed to about young people for young people. But why does it read like it’s for geriatric readers who are trying to understand what their great-grandchildren are like…..?
My only concern is she left Tara behind. C’mon Luann! Girl Code! You go, Tara comes, even if you have to listen to her whine at you for it. If she’s smart (and I believe she is), she’ll thank you for it once she has time to cool off and think about it.
