Well I’ll tell ya. I’d NEVER thought I’d see the day that Jack, of all people would be “Sensible Responsible One,” here. And He’s RIGHT, Lu. It’s PAST time for you two to hit those books. You both wasted time texting when you should have been listening to that lecture. Now you’ve just blown 40+ minutes waiting and worrying about Tara. Pretty soon it’ll be “test time” and you haven’t studied squat.
But You know what would be ironic here? If these two don’t study and flunk the test but Tara shows up, takes the test and gets an “A.” Heck, she might be a genius in sheep’s clothing. Or more likely, she got hold of the answers for the test.
At any rate, Lu had better FOCUS on the task at hand (And Jack). Jack seems to be getting just a tad bit annoyed and anxious. And if this keeps up, Jack may begin to seriously start “reconsidering” Tiffany as a “Gal Pal.”
That’s Jack, simple but not dumb, going straight to the point. I think the Evanses have finally come up with the anchor (and possible straight-man) that Luann needs.
So there appears to be three likely possibilities: (1) Maybe Luann feels closer to Tara than Jack; (2) Luann has a disturbing hunch something really happened to Tara this time: (3) Luann doesn’t really wanna study right now either and she’s clinging to Tara’s situation as a distraction. #3 gets my vote.
Forget Tara, Luann. She’s not worthy of your thoughts, worries or time. She might blow off her education, but YOU don’t want to, so get on with the studying! Focus on yourself, your education, your true friends and family. Tara is not in your inner circle – she is a seldom visitor. She will breeze in and blow out with the wind. She’s that kind of friend.
While I agree that Luann should start concentrating on her studying, I think she is actually worried about Tara. And I think that it’s a good thing to see someone who is concerned about someone else…
From someone who was always at the top of the class in math and physics, chemistry was never my strong suite; too many “its this way except when its not” ; better get crackin’
For MisterDantes. You may not have seen my response to your reply to my comment yesterday. I get the impression, maybe wrongly, you may have read just that one page. There were 9 pages altogether with Greg’s commentary on each. There was a “Next” at the end of the strips.
It ends with her and TJ in somewhat of a stand off and then TJ telling Brad of her threat of “You haven’t seen the last of ME!’” ( http://www.luannfan.com/who-is-ann-eiffel-p-9/ ).
I should not read comments before I write mine, so I am going to act like I did not read them. I think Luann is a caring person, and it is a good thing she is worried and a bit frustrated about Tara, who definitely has something going on. College students can be very emphatetic and that is a good thing. Jack is proving to be a good friend, and I think, depending on how GnK look at him long-term, he will/may/should be the man Luann finally settles on for the long-term.. However there has to be at least one drama/trauma played out before that happens if past history is any guide.
@Luann1212 I agree re Jack’s potential future as Luann’s #1 guy; for a while at least. Remember that Greg has a high opinion of veterinarians. At least he did with the two encounters Puddles had with one. The vet was drawn as a real person – not “cartoonish.” He always acted professionally and was not part of any silly gags. Lining Jack up as pre-vet might be a subtle signal as to what Greg might have in store for the character as a Luann companion.
Jack still has a bit more makeover yet in his appearance before he becomes a romantic item. IMHO. Remember how much Brad morphed.
You know your title character is boring when the most excited she gets in the past month is from speculating about someone else’s life.
But let’s not build this up too much, folks. Whatever the reason for Tara’s flakiness, either it will be revealed as mundane or simply unanswered and eventually forgotten altogether.
After all, not too long ago the big mystery around these parts was “why does Piro need to crash in other people’s rooms all the time?” Remember Piro? Because the other characters certainly don’t!
I see Luann is still active in her fantasy life. Interesting for a comic strip, but not good for her. She needs to open her eyes to what’s really happening, and see Jack by her side.
It’s obvious Tara is a user, and also very irresponsible. Both Luann and Jack should just concentrate on their studying, and forget about her. Also, when they do see Tara Jack should ask for his notes back.
Not a lot of story progression today, but there is IMO considerable development of character personalities:
1. Luann, to me, seems a bit aggravated at Tara. She has a modicum of concern…. but to me it is mostly just Luann expressing an array of “unanswerable questions” about Tara which to me reads as aggravation. I can understand her aggravation… but she is letting it get in the way of her own success. She needs to let her aggravation/concern go for the time being.
2. Jack is showing more DIRECT focus than has been his general M.O. It seems that since he found a program he WANTS to pursue, his focus is quite good. That is nice to see.
3. Tara’s “no-show” further feeds into the general idea that she is nice, but is a flake. Tara’s M.O. is further enhanced by her “no-show” status, and seems to be basically….. Tara does what she wants, when she wants, and how she wants. This is not saying she doesn’t have good qualities by any means. It just means that it appears that her brain is wired in such a way that she seems to focus mostly “on the moment” and not much into the future nor reflect much on the past.
* * * *
Luckily for Luann and Jack, the professor very kindly provided his students with a set of study questions. This should allow Jack and Luann to figure out what they actually need to know even though they probably were not paying close attention during the EmojiFest they had earlier. I have had many an evening at home where I would gnaw on the stem of my pipe while contemplating and writing an array of study questions that were a) distinctly different from the test questions I would write but were also b) broadly encompassing the “big picture” ideas that helped guide students to synthesize deeper understanding of concepts…. and not just memorization. I still tweak the study questions a bit, but their broad based focus means they can stay very pretty similar across semesters.
Jack – mental note. If you ever do end up dating Luann, return her phone calls instantly and reassure her a lot! Luann – Insecurity is rarely attractive, and if you are looking at teaching, might reconsider. A room full of students can smell lack of confidence a mile away.
Meanwhile, Tara had been stuck at the AM/PM Minimart. While she was filling up her Jeep with gas, she went in to use the restroom, and some prankster had put Superglue® on the toilet seat. Someone in Brad’s engine company managed to unscrew the seat from the bowl, and Tara was subsequently taken to Pitts Memorial Hospital where she is currently undergoing a seatectomy.

Where is Jayblue and his beloved Lists?
Wherefore Art Thou, Oh Punmaster?
Well, I’ll ‘try’ to carry on in his absence:
“Tara, Tara, Tara!”
“Saving Tara Starr!”
“Lie Hard!”
“Testbusters!”
“Sadiator!”
“Swindler’s List!”
“Where-Her???”
“Gone with the Notes!”
“Starr Wars: NO Hope!”
“2019: A College Expulsion!”
“L.J. The Extra Credit!”
“Dr. Strangelove or: How Luann stopped worrying about Tara and learned how to love Jack!”
“Some Like it NOT!”
“My Fair-Weather Lady!”
“The Good, The Nice, The Missing!”

There are many things that we want but are unwilling to pay the price for.
…….. example…..
After a skilled pianist finished her performance, a lady came up to her, saying, “I would give anything to play as well as you.”
“Would you give eight hours a day, seven days a week for twenty years practicing?”
“Certainly not.”
“I did.”

At the rate everyone here in this arc is going, Tiffany could outscore them, and she isn’t even taking a chem class.
If nothing else, she’d bring up the comment count just by popping in and saying hi. Day’s over half over and only 106 comments?
Greg’d have Tiffany show up just so Jack could drop an anvil on her foot so everyone would laugh.
