It’’s not “putting up” with what we’ve enjoyed most for 27 years. And intelligent commentary isn’t silly, especially considering the insanity out there today…
your comic works over the past 20 years have been very enjoyable but for the silly overdone Bears you have been doing. Forget them and work on the rest please.
Been enjoying comics since the late 1930’s. Your work ranks with the best. Congratulations, Wiley. Here’s wishing you many more years of work that satisfies you.
That sounds like a good-bye turn of events. Your recent comment of truth to power, I.e, to maniac-in-chief, should not be a deterrence. Tis the humorists of America who have rendered an outlet of protest for the anxiety of us all.
I’m so sorry that our local paper, the Columbus Dispatch, has overreacted to the errant (but well-deserved) comment in a recent Non Sequitur comic and dropped the strip. Non Sequitur is, without a doubt, the smartest comic the Dispatch carried.
Congratulations and thanks for all the laughs over the years. Non Sequitur has been one of my favorites since you started drawing it. Keep up the good work.
I remember the first time I saw your comic in the Sunday paper. The embellishments around it were like illuminated letters in old religious texts that monks used to do. Your use of characters and regular strips is unique. Thanks for the strip and I hope for many more years.
Congratulations on 27 years…next time you want to go totally political, step away from your drawing board, go out into your backyard and scream at the top of your lungs. Then, "Just say ‘No’ " and don’t do it. You are way too good to end up tossed out because you got fed up once too many times. Live long and prosper for many more than 27 more years.
I remember reading that cartoon for the first time and laughing out loud. I was hooked ever since. Great artwork, wonderful wry wit and pithy stories. Keep it up Wiley. It’s a good ride and I don’t want it to end.
I’ve seen drawing styles change in a strip over the years but if this is the very first, it still looks like today’s work. Not that it hasn’t progressed and gotten better. This first one is wonderful.
For 27 years I have enjoyed your artistry, your provocative wit, and your ability to express your opinions and reflect those of others through your cartoons.
I hope that you continue your excellent work for another 27 years. As Spock says: “Live Long and Prosper”!
I read Non Sequitur at the Washington Post website. Today’s cartoon is the one above, but the heading is “Non Sequitur by Brian Basset.” I hope Wiley hasn’t been forced into retirement by the Sunday-strip brouhaha.
Congratulations on the anniversary! Of all the strips I follow on GoComics, yours is among the top few that I really look forward to each day (others include the work of Ruben Bolling, which puts you in pretty good company). Your wit, humor, satire and social commentary are among the best around.
I’ve read your toon from the get go. With a coffee and quesitos, I say may you live forever Mr. Wiley. Keep us laughing and keep poking them in the eye. Love ya man!
I wasn’t there QUITE from the beginning, but I do have the first collection, “Dead Lawyers and Other Pleasant Thoughts” (from 1993). “Non Sequitur” is one of my top three current comics favorites. If Trump is impeached, or removed due to the 25th Amendment, think the papers that dropped the strip will put it back? (I suppose Wiley could’ve told Putin to you know what, and there’s not much difference between Putin and Trump. Just the difference between the owner and the poodle……..)
Always a pleasure to see and read your work. Happy anniversary and keep up the great work. And should a profane digression occur again, well sh** happens. Peace Brother!
Wiley, I have enjoyed your strip daily for years, and had the Non Sequitur calendar on my desk at work every year up until I retired, and still have one on my desk at home. Congratulations on your anniversary, and please keep up the good work. Your work makes me laugh, makes me wistful at times, and almost always (and most importantly) makes me Think! You are, Sir, are an American Hero. I salute you.
Wiley, Thank you for all of the time and creativity you’ve put into your strip. That Snoopy dog kills me and when the Lucy character pulls the football away at the last minute from that dufus kid, it’s a riot. Oh wait, that’s another strip. Just kidding and I enjoy yours so please keep up the good work.
Been with you since pretty close to the beginning.I was finishing up law school in Austin & my dad was in San Antonio. We shared comics and the NYT crosswords almost every day over long distance, then email, over the years until he passed a few years ago. Yours were always at the top of our list.
Thank your for your keen eye & pen and sharp wit! Here’s to many more years!
I have enjoyed your strip from the beginning and hope to continue to do so - but it really became important when I stopped reading it in the local paper and started reading it online. The comments are also (often) priceless. Thank you for giving so many of us a voice. Please continue for many years. After all, life is still a non sequitur-it’s a real shame that newspaper editors don’t understand the term.
Wiley,Thank you for 27 years of Joy and Wisdom!!In Humor, there is subtle, sometimes painful Truth…I start my day with your insightful peek at our humanity.Wishing you the Happiest and Healthiest, Always!Bernie
Have daily been looking forward to your witty “silliness” since your beginning and continue to look forward to more each day. Bravo! Congratulations on 27 years.
I would have been 16 and a Sophmore in Highschool. I know I started reading the funny pages regularly starting around age 8 or 9. There is a pretty good chance that I have been reading your comic from the very beginning.
I went back through everything from this year and don’t see anything “kerfuffle” worthy, so I have no idea what those other commenters are referring to. 27 years is a long time though, and though I would really miss this comic, I would understand if it was time for you to move on. I would like to see the ending of the Nebbish story though.
I can’t start my day without my morning Non-Sequitor – both current and on my daily calendar. It was hard during 2018 to relive 2016 though :-) So thanks for continuing to do such good work for all of us.
All the above comments are so wonderful, and so accurate. Keep doing the strip as long as you can – those of us less capable of being humorous are reliant on you.
While I enjoy many a comic, Non Sequitur is the one I look forward to the most. Ignore those folks with the negative comments, they have little or no mind to work with and the fact that you can get them riled up enough to spew their hatred means you are, indeed, saying all the right things in all the right ways! Please don’t ever stop!
So late in the day that I doubt if many will read me, but I have to pile on. Mr. Miller, you are a national treasure in my book. Your combination of a fine cartoon illustration skill, continued invention of beloved characters and themes, and master comedian’s depth in probing the faults and insane bits in each of us is currently unmatched. You basically have no peers. Those that find themselves unwilling to support you after this recent kerfluffle were probably upset with Gary Larson, too. He retired before the PC police, of course. Gahan Wilson? Often far too macabe for a Sunday paper. And David Horsey’s political take would constitute a cardiac emergency for the same bunch.I would not support or buy a paper that did not include Non Sequitur.
27 years, kennehora!* Your wit and style have only gotten sharper over the years. Thank you for all your work — I don’t think I’d have gotten through the last 2 years without it (esp. the bears).
Wiley, thank you for all the years of hard work. Your art is something I look forward to, every day. It’s obvious you have a gift, and thank you for sharing it with all of us.
The silliness is great. What we “put up with” is the health-preachiness and the left-wing politics that shows up on a regular basis between the strips that contain silliness.
Been married 50 years. I’m so lucky to be married to a great cook! Early on, he always complained about my cooking. So I stopped and gave him free reign in the kitchen! So worth it!
Congratulations! I’ve been reading for a long time. Love your stuff, love the bears! You’ve made my refrigerator more than once. I hope you will be around for many more years.

“Put up with”"? We happen to LIKE what you do. Last Sunday was a blip.

Wiley, if by what you mean by silliness: brilliance, I personally am willing to put up with you for the next 27 years, and be on.

I wish this cartoon would stay. Please do not disown it, whomever puts these comics together.

And it’s been one of my top favorite comic strips for 27 years. Congrats and please keep ’em coming!

Thank you for all your work — I don’t think I’d have gotten through the last 2 years without it (esp. the bears).

You have one of the best comics in the land. Even with the occasional typographical errors (which really are in the mind of the beholder) ;)

It’s this silliness that helps me make it through the daze. Thank you.

Thank you for all your wonderful and thoughtful panels.
ckeller almost 6 years ago
The silliness is great. What we “put up with” is the health-preachiness and the left-wing politics that shows up on a regular basis between the strips that contain silliness.

Been married 50 years. I’m so lucky to be married to a great cook! Early on, he always complained about my cooking. So I stopped and gave him free reign in the kitchen! So worth it!
