I feel bad for Tiff. She was SO looking forward to having dinner with JUST her dad, but, we all knew that Ann was going to ruin it somehow. So, who will Tiff spend turkey day with? The DeGroots? Gunther/Les? Or……????
Well, I saw Ann crashing the party a mile away, but I did not expect Tiff to bail. Good for her! I hope she gets off that couch and goes to one of the other dinners.
I’m surprised Tom told Tiffany that Ann would be there. I figured Tiffany would meet Dad at the restaurant and Ann would shortly show up – kind of an ambush.
Perhaps Ann told Tom to say she wouldn’t be there – so that Tiffany would make plans to meet Dad and decline other invitations. This is just further punishment for not accepting Ann.
Tiffany turned Les down when he invited her to Irma’s for Thanksgiving. What if now Gunther & Bets invite her to Irma’s? If Tiffany at this point decides to go, the TG dinner could wind up warm & fuzzy.
Yep. most of us predicted Ann to throw a monkey wrench into Tiffany’s anticipation to be alone with her dad but it was not the disaster we thought it would be. Well, she needs to vent. To talk to someone about her dad and Ann, why her dad is acting this way. I am not sure which would be the better person to talk about that – Nancy or Irma. Nancy always has been sensible and has a husband who fathered her children so she has experience with father role while Irma raised her son without a husband so she might have little to offer. Since Nancy already extended an invitation, I think it is likely she will go to the DeGroots…with Luann there. Ugh (for Tiffany). She probably rather the Gray household where Luann is not at.
I think we’re seeing Tiffany in the transformation from a teenage airhead into someone who’s realizing that life is complicated and things just may not work out. Frightening isn’t the adequate word for it.
I was so hoping for Tiffany especially that Ann would not insert herself into the Father-Daughter bit.But when Dad said “Ann has plans” this is what I thought. If I was Tiffany, I would make a choice how, to demonstrate her maturity:1. Go to the Fuse family dinner;2. Go serve the homeless with Dez and Bernice; or,3. “Woman up” and go be with Dad and Ann!.She could choose to insert herself into dinner with Gunther and Les … but I don’t think she was invited.
Bad, sad, I hate this happening to her, but I hope she will be drawn strong enough to move on from this in a positive if sad way, and the start will, I agree with most, going to one of the invitations she got from the DeGroots, All and Irma, or best, would be serving meals to seniors with Dez and Bern. Don’t wallow in your sorrow, now you have knowledge of who really cares. Painful, but real.
It’s so sad that she can’t have her own relationship with her Father. Why does Ann have to always be included? Maybe Tifd is now trying to decide which one of her many invites she’ll follow up on.
That jerk doesn’t deserve to have a daughter. I have two grown daughters and I would never do that to them. Someone needs to grab him by the collar and kick his butt down the street.
I appreciate how the character of Tiffany has grown. She had the spine and composure to tell her father very simply she had other plans. Now although she appears upset, she is contemplative.
Well, the posters, predictors and prognosticators all wrote something like this would happen. Truly is poor Tiffany, but she made the right choice. With 2 days left, maybe the others will come to her “rescue.”
We know that’s a running gag because we saw it used again earlier this year. From this alone, today’s installment was totally predictable.
Sadly, it reminds me of my own relationship with my father.
Left my mom when us kids were rather small. While he maintained some contact with my brother, he made no contact with me.
When his replacement for mom died a few years back, my wife convinced me to try to offer an olive branch. At that time, he expressed no regret over what he had done to us, to mom.
Granted, it was the death of the “other woman,” but it came off as if the olive branch was not going to be returned or matched.
He died a couple years later, and I found myself feeling about the same as when he left us the first time.
So what happens the next two days for Tiffany? I hope Tom will be a little disappointed about not seeing his daughter. Maybe Tiffany will find someone to spend the day with who cares about her.
She handled herself as an adult, and her strange expression shows disappointment and the realization she will be alone. I would do the same thing. She is growing up. I can only hope that she picks up the phone and calls Luann.
I know this is only a comic strip but someone out there who had a tradition with their father has been heartbroken over changed plans.
I really really hope someone finds out about her sitting in her room alone and takes her to dinner or just hold her hand. Tiff really needs a shoulder to cry on, she’s been through too much.
Well THAT, was the most Predictable plot development in history. Don’t expect any ”Pleasant Surprises” when Tom Farrell or Ann Eiffel is involved. No Sir. But that’s fine. No need to expect any “mercy” from G&K for Tiffany come Christmas.
Ann Eiffel. There’s only one way to get RID of her. I say We take off and NUKE the Witch from orbit. It’s the only way to be SURE.
Now the question IS: What happens next for Tiffany?
I was thinking along the lines of Gunther and maybe Bets dropping to deliver the money from the last eBay sale. And giving Tiff a last minute invite.
OR
Other kids on campus that didn’t go home for the holiday, either.
Hey it happens. There are some students who never go home for any Holidays.
Perhaps one or more of them will drop by and invite Tiff for an impromptu campus Thanksgiving get together.
Perhaps Tiff will meet her future roommate. And MAYBE meet her future Soulmate. Something good HAS to come of this.
Someone needs to slap Tiff’s Dad silly! He needs to make time/plans with his daughter alone and keep them! I make sure my husband (who has children with his wife who died before we met) and his adult children have time alone and phone conversations that I can’t hear.
Poor Tiffany. Her father does not want to understand how much she can’t stand Ann. Right now she probably feels so betrayed to be unable to do anything. Too depressed, proud and hurt to think of going to one of the three places she was invited to. Probably she will pass the night in solitude. Now the relationship with her father is definitely lost.
Aw poor Tiffany. But at least she didn’t show up at the restaurant only to see Ann’s smiling face. At least her father called her with the news that Ann would be there after all. I hope she won’t just sit there! She has lots of options. I hope she chooses one of them. My pick is Gunther’s mom’s house for a big feast. But feeding the homeless with Bee and Dez is good, too, and might warm her heart. BTW love Dez”s new nickname for Berniece.
Wait…This is been all the same day? She just got back from Kablooie, where she got an invite to Thanksgiving at the DeGroots, made it back to her dorm and before getting out of her uniform, got a call from daddy. And the dinner is tonight?
The glamour portrait of the old Tiff on the wall behind her on the sofa is a good touch, a poignant reminder that things have changed forever in her life’s journey. Good job, Greg.
Predictable. One of the proposed solutions and the one most likely, Ann shows up. The only surprise was staying in her dorm room. Hopefully we see something more positive for Tiffany for Christmas, like decent grades, someone who cares about her day-to-day (and their kitten since Gunther is occupied), or even just an uptick in her situation. As for Tom, he’s bought and paid for with Ann. Tiffany needs one more meeting with him and that’s to get what she can set up for her for the rest of her life; let Tom know Ann will prevent her from getting any of it otherwise. After that, if Tom is happy with Ann, let dad go and see where things go.Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy your day, give thanks for what you have. Take a moment for those less fortunate than yourself no matter how fortunate you are. Take a moment also for those who serve us this and all holiday seasons; police, firefighters, medical professionals, and especially our deployed military. Peace.
I really am tired of this story line…it needs to be finished. I realize that she needed to grow up but this is annoying to me as a reader seeing her lose every single time
Nope, go to Luann’s house and ask to speak to her mom. Give her mom a big hug and start crying you little heart out. All will be good with a real family!
Well GnK pulled a switcheroo. Many, including me, envisioned Tiff at Le Petit Chateau being stiffed by her father. Instead,Tiff stiffs the Dirty Duo!! Good on her! Now she needs to man-… err… girl-up and start her new life with her real, emotional, “family!” Al and Irma and Gunny and Les!!!!
I feel sorry for tiff, but I’m not surprised. maybe dad will get it. Tiff earlier in the week had been up for it, anne’s there and tiff has plans. wake up dad.
Wait, wasn’t there a recent arc about how she couldn’t afford this private dorm and so she chose to get a smaller one with a roommate? Or was that plot development simply forgotten like so many others?
Sadly, this is reality. Dad has made his choice and it seems to be consistent with his character. I have never seen dad. Has he ever been in the comic? Has he ever shown up to any of Tiffs events? Was he around for her in high school?I picked the comic up while the kids were in college and have never seen dad at all.
I would hope that tomorrow we’ll see Tiffany showing up at the restaurant anyway, determined to be with her father and thwart Ann’s attempt to monopolize him. She could sit down and hold nothing back, she has nothing to lose at this point.
As I responded to tutibug5 yesterday! I thought something like this just may happen. I hope Tiff uses this as a springboard to leap out of that toxic home relationship into a healthier one.
I also hope GnK do not exploit this situation into some sort of deep depressive social statement!!!
Tiffany, you blew an opportunity to show your father how much you have matured. As Percy Sledge sung: “When a man loves a women….” He’s using the wrong part of his anatomy to think with. Maybe a show of maturity might open his eyes.
Tiff’s father spoiling her since she was a child did her no favors, he preferred gifts to affection, and Tiff construed the gifts to mean affection.Pretty sure she realizes that Ann has her hooks buried deep into her dad, and has done Tiff the biggest favor she could have, pushed her into independence.Tiff is not about to cry, she is about to strike her own way in the world, and that is a frightening concept for someone who has been so sheltered for so long, but she has survived the last few months and knows what she wants in her life.It is a moment of self reflection and determination. A time to make choices for herself, and leave her dad to the clutches of Ann and hope he sees the light….soon.
ARGH!!!!! I have never genuinely HATED a newspaper comics character like Ann. She is just purposefully EVIL.>:( Tiffany has grown so much, only to have her daddy ignore her.
I am so tempted to simply quit reading this strip. A person, even a comic strip person, can only take so much, and as a reader, I can only take so much. I’m glad that Tiff didn’t take the bait. I hope she finds some happiness. I do wonder if GnK are so miserable themselves that they just have to make the rest of us miserable too. If I want misery, I’ll watch the news.
Poor Tiffany! I was so hoping that her “plans” included some clever scheme to get rid of the awful Anne Eiffel, and now look, the beeyotch has won again.
Very sad. Many have said that she will go to the DeGroots or somewhere. My guess is she will stay home and think about how unhappy she is and be asking herself why this bad stuff is all happening to her right now. Not a good emotional state. Very concerning.
This reads so very dark to me… this whole week and especially today. With Tiffany in such a dark place, it makes me think this sounds like the underpinnings of a suicide arc. I would be horrified if that is how this moves, but it has that sort of ring to it.
The saving grace, IMO, is that I sincerely doubt Greg would choose to venture into that realm. Hopefully, he will have Tiffany simply realize that she cannot rely on her Dad while at the same time realize and see more clearly that she DOES have friends…. and indeed a FAMILY of friends to whom she can and does fit well with.
Well, Greg has left his trademark of sadness on another holiday. He is priming his audience to find Santa laying in front of the fireplace with Shannon wearing an evil smile, holding a plate of cookies, and a box of poison.
Hiding only feeds into Ann’s manipulation of Tiffany’s father. He really is clueless, anything Ann says will seem true as long as Tiffany is out of the picture. She should have gone, been civil, spent time with her Dad and outclassed Ann in the process. By staying in and crying, she’s allowing Ann to win.
I do like that Tiff is being straight up with her dad, not whining or critical, just ‘sorry I will not be there’. She has a mission and friends now, and Ann is not part of it.
Greg. Haven’t you dragged out this Tiff VS Ann arc long enough? Your readers are getting tired of the same old, same old. Try ending an arc for once. People HATE Ann. Either get rid of her, or give Tiff the chance to have a real relationship with her father…or are you playing out your REAL life where YOU did not have a real relationship with your father?
Good: Tiffany had the courage to turn down dinner with Dad when Annie Awful became part of it. Bad: Tiffany, who had “plans,” now is alone and without any dinner plans on Thanksgiving Day.
Our Tiffany has little to be thankful for, thanks (!) to Greg.
Ever since Ann wormed her way into Tom Farrell’s life (and wallet), Tom has no time for his only child; he pretty much pushed Tiffany aside. This led to her serious weight gain. Thankfully, she has friends who were willing to be there and help her become more (but not too much) like her old self.
Tom may think Ann is the best thing for him, but he refuses to see that when it comes to Tiffany, Ann is at her worst. And just when Tiffany felt she had another chance to re-connect with her father, Ann throws a monkey wrench in the works, determined to keep Tom (and his money) all to herself. It’s funny how this woman who couldn’t be bothered to mother her own son, is now claiming to want to “be there” for Tiffany.
Well, now it’s Tiffany’s turn to be too busy for Tom. Ann owns him, now. He’s gone, so it’s time to let him go. And while she’s going to have it rough at first, what with having to move to a cheaper room, it’s probably for the best. She has a new goal, and if she focuses on that, TiffasNails will become a reality.
But at the same time, it’s Thanksgiving. And she should not have to be alone and unhappy. She has three options available. Which will she pick…?
Too bad Tiff just didn’t say, I can’t be there if Ann is there. So if you really want to see me, tell Ann to stay home. That way she’d know for sure where she stands with her dad. It might be time Tiff to slip out the back and make a new plan.
Can’t help but feel super bad for Tiffany . I think she should move out and start a new life somewhere out of a comic or maybe retire from the series just like Delta and some of the original cast did.

I would hope that tomorrow we’ll see Tiffany showing up at the restaurant anyway, determined to be with her father and thwart Ann’s attempt to monopolize him. She could sit down and hold nothing back, she has nothing to lose at this point.

The past three days, we have seen Tiffany’s real family members. Tiffany’s dad is NOT family!

That’s just sad. Parents should never put their kids after a “significant other”. We need our parents, no matter how old we are.

Why is she wearing her work outfit if this restaurant is closed for thanksgiving?

As I responded to tutibug5 yesterday! I thought something like this just may happen. I hope Tiff uses this as a springboard to leap out of that toxic home relationship into a healthier one.
I also hope GnK do not exploit this situation into some sort of deep depressive social statement!!!

I’d pretty much figured that’s what was going to happen.

Airman about 5 years ago
Well, Greg has left his trademark of sadness on another holiday. He is priming his audience to find Santa laying in front of the fireplace with Shannon wearing an evil smile, holding a plate of cookies, and a box of poison.

Who couldn’t guess that Ann WAS going to be there?
WTFrank about 5 years ago
Hiding only feeds into Ann’s manipulation of Tiffany’s father. He really is clueless, anything Ann says will seem true as long as Tiffany is out of the picture. She should have gone, been civil, spent time with her Dad and outclassed Ann in the process. By staying in and crying, she’s allowing Ann to win.

RSH about 5 years ago
I do like that Tiff is being straight up with her dad, not whining or critical, just ‘sorry I will not be there’. She has a mission and friends now, and Ann is not part of it.
DaveQuinn about 5 years ago
Sisyphos about 5 years ago
Good: Tiffany had the courage to turn down dinner with Dad when Annie Awful became part of it. Bad: Tiffany, who had “plans,” now is alone and without any dinner plans on Thanksgiving Day.
Our Tiffany has little to be thankful for, thanks (!) to Greg.
Be strong, Tiffany!

Well, what goes around, comes around…
Which will she pick…?

fix-n-fly about 5 years ago
Too bad Tiff just didn’t say, I can’t be there if Ann is there. So if you really want to see me, tell Ann to stay home. That way she’d know for sure where she stands with her dad. It might be time Tiff to slip out the back and make a new plan.
Hope everyone is doing good :D about 5 years ago
