(sigh) Still pouting. Maybe someone should ask him why he got off on the wrong paw with Goldie? (Assuming he remembers.) That might be a good place to start.
Aw, I know Lupin’s being the unreasonable one here, but I just want to give him a snuggle here. Poor guy’s been the babycat of the family for so long he doesn’t know how to deal and he looks so unhappy.
I wanted to see Elvis slap down Lupin when Lupin was being annoying a few years ago.
But this is just wrong.
No-one believed Lupin when he warned them about the monster orange cat.No-one cared when his tape recorder was stolen.No-one has made any effort to find out why Lupin resents Goldie.
As a long term Elvis fan, I never expected to find myself sympathising with Lupin.
Excellent job, Elvis. Lupin is choosing to be miserable and is trying to make others miserable, too. It is time for Lupin to make better choices. Change is hard, dude, but not changing makes life even harder.
We keep saying that Lupin should tell them why he’s angry, but does he have reason to think they’d listen? They didn’t listen when he warned them that Goldie was there. They have pretty much ignored him since then.
I thought Elvis would give Lupin an even sterner scolding. Lupin, you’ll need to come out from under the couch eventually; you’ll probably do so when a) the food dishes are out, and b) you need to use the litter box.
O.T. BCN has arrived! It’s a clue in a USA Today Crossword Puzzle! Here’s what Georgia says, “WOW!!! Readers have begun to alert me to this! (Thank you, if you pointed this out to me on social media!) Thank you so much @usatoday for including BCN in your crossword today!! (—Also, apologies if this spoils the answer for anyone. I don’t know what the etiquette is on posting something like this, and I am just so so so excited to see my comic pop up in the crossword. Please forgive my enthusiasm, if I’m jumping the gun at all!) This is awesome! I was SO excited to see this, I made a squeak sound!”
I’m feeling a little sorry for Lupin…without his recorder (and the resultant transcripts) he misses half of what’s going on around him. I wonder why his life-long friends don’t seem to be supportive and understanding of him these days…
IMO following: This thread is one that, I think, challenges us by being presented in short daily shots instead of two or three longer (maybe much longer) strips, like the original Tillie and Christmas threads. I really think that in the future, when our Three Good Boys will become our Four Good Kitties having their adventures, Goldie’s introduction will be a beloved arc. We didn’t like it when Puck declared war on the Robber Mice, and look how that turned out! Georgia, I believe in you . . . ignore the complaints. We know it will turn out All Right In The End.
I’m siding with Lupin on this because even though he does have his recorder back, as he’s deaf that meant a lot to him and it’s theft was never acknowledged or, most importantly, apologised for. Having had this happen to me multiple times from siblings (and I see the boys sorta like that) I can completely understand holding a grudge when my feelings have been ignored whether the problem was solved or not (in my case, usually not). As for Elvis being the voice of reason, not exactly and kind of hypocritical considering how unreasonable he’s been, including with Puck. I think I would have liked the female from the other news team to be the voice of reason, though I suppose that wouldn’t be feasible.
From Lupin’s pov, Goldie stole his recorder (matter of elimination to figure that out for Lupin), and she gets to come inside and start making her own place among what he thought was his safe space instead of the theft being addressed by anyone save the mice getting it back to him. She stole from him once, and is now in a prime position to do it again. And neither of the others really batted an eye at his stolen recorder. Now compare that to when Puck had his toy stolen. Big difference.
I know, it’s just a comic and this is all fictitious, but it just hits a little too close to home for me. Anyway, here’s hoping this doesn’t double post on me.
Elvis used the standard phrase, but perhaps should have said: “Regardless of your problem, whatever it is, stop making yourself a problem for everyone, especially Puck.”
For everyone who’s struggling with this story line, here was a post from Facebook:
Eva Terrell: I know Lupin is being difficult, but I’m really hoping somebody will stop a minute to listen to why he is so out of kilter? He would have a lot of feelings going on, and and the ones that would normally be listening to him are all “team Goldie.” So he seems even more marginalized from the rest of his group, which just makes him more insecure. With the start he and Goldie got off to it’s no wonder he is angry, hurt and confused. She stole his tape recorder, how does he know she isn’t going to steal his home too? And nobody has apologized for doubting and mocking him when he was saying there was a strange cat about…. He’s had a real rough few months.
To which Georgia replied: Georgia Dunn – Breaking Cat News: Eva Terrell Very much agreed… (in time!! Promise!)
So we WILL have a happy ending. We just have to be as patient as we can be and remember that good things DO come to those who wait (at least in the BCN universe!)
Does anybody who post here have any skill at editing Wikipedia entries? The Breaking Cat News entry is in serious need of updating. I am hopeless at it.
OT: for tomorrow. I have 3 cats now. As a former Maine coon breeder, I have raised many babies, once culminating at 54 cats/ kittens in the cattery. Now retired I have 3 neutered males. One is a mc of my breeding. Two are rescues. Purrsonality wise I have one Tommy and two pucks. The older puck is dominant. Which bcn cats do you have? Don’t forget to compare yours to all the bcn characters. Judge on purrsonality, not breed of appearance.
Elvis is so upset he’s gained the ability to point an index claw. Gotta love the difference in the cats’ personalities: Puck’s solution: “If I stand between my friend and the newcomer, they won’t fight” meanwhile Elvis takes a much more direct approach, lol
It’s always hard to take when the fair solution isn’t your solution…yes Goldie took the recorder (which has been returned) and she’s the “interloper”…but the Woman and the Man are the ones who decide who is and who isn’t in the house, and Lupin is going to have to come to terms with that (even from under the couch)
Well… While all that Elvis said is true, he didn’t propose any solution. Nor did he open a line of communication. Basically he shut Lupin down and out.

King Harvest: Dancing in the Moonlight
We run and play ’most every night
Then we nap when the moon is big and bright
It is such a great feline delight
When everybody’s napping in the moonlight!
…….
Our friends are not far out our sight,
Trevor may bark but he don’t bite,
And Bea’s so cute on a book’s delight,
Everybody’s napping in the moonlight!
…….
Napping in the moonlight!
Burt keeps everything in a clear light,
And Baba makes sure things are right,
Everybody’s napping in the moonlight!
…….
We work things through after a fight,
Somehow we will put things right,
We’ll have a good pout and get uptight,
But we’ll end up napping in the moonlight!
