His Mom should get Calvin to the Doctor and at least have him checked out. Probably just needs some Calamine lotion or something.

My mother “didn’t hold” with vaccines, so I’ve had them all. Except rubella, which we were vaccinated for in school. I remember the measles epidemic in my small rural town. I was 12, my sister 16. She got it first (at school), and nearly died. I was told to sleep in her bed so I’d be sure and get it.

When my sisters and I had chicken pox, we were covered in calamine lotion and our mom put socks on our hands so we wouldn’t scratch.

I would think if it’s Chicken Pox, he would be sick. I know he didn’t feel well in yesterday’s strip, but he doesn’t seem to be sick in today’s strip…. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

I had a mild reaction of an antibiotic for my lungs years ago. The doctor was a stand in for my regular and perscribed a new drug (at the time) he said take it for 7 days and if you still have symptoms go another 7 days. what he forgot to say was take a week off between the 7 day lots. i’m good about taking medicine at a set time and into the 2nd batch, every day at 7 pm i’d start itching and by 10 i’d be covered in a rash that would fade over night.

I was lucky that was the only reaction, but i’d OD’ed on the medicine.

When I was his age, Measles was just one of the childhood diseases you were expected to get. Carol got them and had a really bad time of it. The doctor came and gave Karen and I shots. When it was our turn, the most annoying part of measles was not getting to go outside. A friend lost his twin brother and his hearing to measles.

A friend of mine was the youngest in his family and missed chickenpox as a kid. So he got it later as an adult. Megacorp had strict rules on when he could come back, he had to be examined by the company doctor to make sure that all poxes were scabbed over and dry.

Back in the ’40’s, area mothers would toss all us kids “a little party” just to get the ‘chicken pox siege’ over with.. Worked, edivently..Later: fun times, us kids picking each other’s ripe boogers off each other…

Another good storyline that was one of its cartoonist’s best. Nice move by Watterson to have a chicken pox story at the start of summer. It heightened the humor level.

Chicken Pox in the summer? Well, speaking from experience, that truly sucks for Calvin. Both me and my sister caught it back to back one summer when we were kids many moons ago. Which meant that a whole month of our summer went right down the drain, since we couldn’t go outside and play with our friends or anything. Still kinda ticks me off to this day….

I had chicken pox and measles at the same time. Talk about itching. Heavy layers of socks on both hands but still have the scars from it. My most vivid memory about having the mumps was my Grandmother offering me a dill pickle to see if I really had them, I tried it and
