Greg’s feeling a little smutty today! Memo to Bernice: Don’t bring a UV light into your new room. (Though I’m sure the room was repainted back when Pru was living in it.
LMAO! Funniest and most believable strip the Evanses have written in a loooong time! Well the idea that cheapo Frank would even consider buying a new mattress is a leeeetle hard to believe, but still!
Prudence probably gave the room a good cleaning prior to the room and Nancy probably gave the room a good cleaning after the departure. What did Luann do? Probably nothing.
That’s just what every new tenant wants to hear when they’ve moved into a new place – “Man, the person who used to live there was a real SLOB! You could see the carpet moving, the fleas were so bad…”
But wouldn’t they have deep cleaned the room before renting it out to Pru?
Imagine living in a room that was once so filthy that you can’t touch the walls. And for somebody as picky as Bernice, she’s probably already planning her exit strategy.
Me and my brother could get into each other’s room by crawling through the attic eaves. We could also hear each other just by opening our closets and talking. It was like we had our own fort in the walls of the house.
I guess they learned to be very quiet as kids if they were doing anything in bed by themselves that they didn’t want anyone to know about. I mean, like staying up late to listen to a baseball game on a portable radio….
I hope this will be the prelude to many great and profound moments in which Luann and Bernice will chat before sleeping talking about the big (and common) things in life. Doubts, perplexities, dreams. It seems to me a poetic thing, as well as funny♡.
I dunno what the “problem” is. Once the “shock” of her new surroundings wears off, Bernice will have that Bedroom, (not to mention her small sliver of a bathroom) “House-Flipping HGTV” pristine in no time! Much to Nancy’s Delight.
The BIG question is: “What time IS and what’s FOR, dinner?” ;)
Relax Bernice …the room is clean …Luann was just taking a trip down memory lane of how Brad and her would pick on each other.
My favorite talk thru the wall: https://www.gocomics.com/luann/1985/03/30 Luann says: “Brad?” ….YO – “Did you like me when I was born?” …Sure – ’course I had no idea mom was going to bring you home.
I am not really sure what Luann is up to here, but to me it feels like she is just trying to tease/aggravate Bernice in a joking fashion at the moment. With Brad not having been there for many years, and Prudence having been the most recent occupant… I anticipate that the room has been adequately cleaned numerous times.
I, however, would not be surprised to see in tomorrow’s comic….. Bernice having rented a steam cleaner like they rent at a lot of grocery stores in my region… and seeing her steam cleaning the carpets, bed, etc… and wiping down every surface with some mighty cleaner.
But, in the grander scheme of things….. uh…. in the absence of our current Covid-19 situation….. I ask folks to imagine the state of the various furnishings of a typical dormitory room most years when the students move in. Sure, they were “cleaned”…. to some degree…. but, truth-be-told… I am sure most dorm furnishings have seen a helluva lot more actions and activities of a whole host of different ways than anything that occurred in Brad’s room in total.
And, Bernice was in the dormitories for what seems like two academic years. So, really…. nothing to fuss too much about…. just give the room a decent cleaning and things will be fine.
I’m predicting this will be a fairly short term arc. Maybe six months to a year in Luanne time. lol At some point Ben will get a job and he and the kids will move out and Bernice will have to move back home. But in the meantime it will be fun to watch!
Maybe Bernice’s cleanliness and tidiness will rub off on Luanne and her room will finally get a much-needed makeover. Also, perhaps these two girls will start doing more to help out around the house and learn some new life skills.
Hey, Bernice, a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and drug one part proxcide works wonders on . Most California people have replaced their carpets with hard wood, but since your stuck with the filthy stuff, call in the shampooers.
Is it weird that Luann is like the one character i just dont have as much interest in anymore? Like i want to see a more of Toni and Brad and whats gonna happen with Shannon..or Tiffs journey to admit her dad is Tom Selek.
Bernice just wants a place to live, sleep, eat and work unbothered. But Luann wants to make everything fun. It might be useful to know that the walls are thin enough to be able to communicate through them, but I can’t see too many instances where you would need to do that. Luann just wants to chit chat all the time. I can see times when Bernice is studying and Luann is trying to talk to her through the wall.
Y’know, as much as I try to – I really can’t like Bernice in any way, shape, or form. She’s like a toddler – unless everything is EXACTLY as she wants it to be, she’s unhappy.
It fascinates me that so many posters are using the latest euphemism ‘life skills’ for the type of thing they want Luann to learn (and note that she helped take care of Gunther and Irma’s home after Irma had some surgery, so Luann does already know this stuff.)
Back in the stone ages when I was in high school in Pittsburgh (no ‘middle school’ back then) young women were required to take ‘home economics’ (basically, how to set a table, how to open a can of soup, how to fold sheets and do laundry), using a sewing machine and cleaning out a sweeper.) Young men took a class called ‘mechanical drawing’. Mech drawing was the first step in the math curriculum for those college bound. (‘Home ec’ was not the first step in any curriculum.)
We had to take placement tests before starting high school. Two of young women in my class tested highest in math of all 600 people in my group, so, even though the bias was against women in math class, the two had to be placed in that curriculum. But they also had to go to summer school with 8th grade boys to ‘make up’ the class they missed, mechanical drawing…
@RSH: As far as Luann ‘just wanting to chit-chat all the time’, I can remember a time when Luann, Jack and Tara were supposed to study together. Tara never showed up, so finally Jack and Luann started studying without her. And that was what they did. Study. No chit-chat. I realize most of you are still strongly attached to high school Luann, but, believe it or not (I’m sure you won’t believe it), all of these characters have changed somewhat since high school. Yes, even Luann, RSH…
