Never grew up with multiple females either; not even the stepsisters after Dad’s remarriage moved in.

What are those lumpy orange things on the table that no one is eating? Yams? Badly baked biscuits? Halloween candy left over from last year?

Always, aside from walking around in one’s underwear what’s wrong with any of those things. And what could Frank mean by passing remarks. Does he mean things like “Pigs live in stys. What do you call your room?”

Once I was having lunch with my friend and she invited me over to her house. Before arriving at her house, she called her dad to make sure he was wearing shorts and not asleep on the couch.

So I guess Frank did all those things when Prudence lived there? Or has her entire existence been expunged from Luanniverse?

(Or didn’t Pru count as a female?)

First panel: A big No – No. Putting a lefty and a righty next to each other while they are eating and the hands used for the eating utensil are right next to each other. Fortunately, Nancy is wearing black – it is after Labor Day, you know. Nice save, Greg…

Of course there is casualness on the female side as well. With a man in the house Bernice, Luann, and, Nancy don’t go around in just undies, don’t do the stereotype of hanging hand washed undies on the shower rod, etc.

Bernice has become indispensable for the life in the DeGroots family ♡. You can see how awkward and new this is for her. All this weight… on her thin, delicate shoulders…. But if she wants to be a therapist, this will be a great workout!

Now, don’t be selfish, ladies. You too have, shall we say, “human frailties,” and Frank’s effort at noble gallantry is not a free pass for you and your issues, Luann’s room is still a mess, for example.

As the (slightly sanitized) saying has it, female poo stinks, too.

Still believing in that ‘Man’s home is his castle,” myth Frank? Never has been, never will be. Get with the times, man.

And don’t be too quick to gloat, Luann. Next Sunday, your pop will get even. Right about the time Bernice serves him yummy pancakes with little sausages, and Frank decides right then and there to swap her name with yours in his will.

To suggest that it’s normal for a man to walk around in his undies with a teenage daughter in the house REALLY CREEPS ME OUT. Totally inappropriate! G&K must have a different set of values than most people. And, as usual, Frank shows his smug self-absorbed side for everyone to enjoy. That’s quite a father character there lol!

It’s occurred to me that most of the Bernice Has Moved In jokes could have been done with Pru. I wonder why the two characters were essentially exchanged? (I preferred Bernice back in the dorm so we could see some of Moony university life and newer characters, but that’s me.)

Subtle hilarity ensues. Bernice is a close family friend, and Luann’s best friend. In many ways she is like a sister to Luann, but it’s the funny thing: what if you had a daughter whose best friend fell on hard times, and you offered her a place to live while she was trying to deal with these issues. If it were me, and it almost was when my daughter was younger, I would be more circumspect when another female was in house. My son was on his own too for a sort period. I probably would be teased too so I can relate.

A young woman in the post-high-school-pre-adulthood stage of life who’s trying to find answers to “Why am I here? Who should I be? Where do I belong? Who do I belong with? Why is my hair orange?” Luann has enjoyed a nurturing upbringing in a normal family; she’s funny, moral, sincere, upbeat and fun. She’s in junior college and has a knack for teaching, singing and stage design. Luann is a romantic – she believes a life of love, fulfillment and perfection is possible. All she needs is a passion to pursue.
