Elvis is the STAR!!! But he would doom the world if he could! I wonder what expression Lupin has? Meanwhile Puck is having a ball and Goldie looks pleased. Elvis looks like he will BLOW his GOURD!!
“Elvis Puffs Out” is out. It collects the web comics (pre-newspaper days) from February 18 to July 28, 2016, and includes the major arcs of The Finding of Beatrix and The Legend of the Golden Mouse (a/k/a The Coming of the Wicked).
What remains uncollected (so far) are a short web-run when Georgia was practicing getting into the rhythm of a daily newspaper strip. These ran from August 1 to August 19, 2016 (generally comprising of The Great Ham Mystery—with unrelated Sunday pages) and the announcement of the Station Break. After that, there was the November 28, 2016 “Lighting Adjustment” that allowed us to see Pucky in all his true black glory (instead of a dark gray); the Our IX Lives Christmas Special (from December 14 to December 25, 2016); and the last two web pages on March 25 & 26, 2017, leading up to the first newspaper strip on March 27.
I hope these uncollected web comics get reprinted somehow….possibly as an intro to the first collection of newspaper strips? (Hint, hint.)
While I believe we will soon get to re-live the Christmas Special, it will be tough to get The Great Ham Mystery into current continuity: it features as the lead detectives Puck (as Sherlock Holmes) and Lupin (as Watson)—these were pre-Goldie days when they didn’t have a resident detective. I suppose it could be told in the newspaper strip now as, perhaps, a flashback story that Puck tells to Goldie.
Elvis, dear, could you please dial it back a bit? The psychic Siamese vibes you’re sending out are disturbing Yum Yum. Thanks. There’s a good little pirate ballerina..
For any who missed this yesterday "Georgia just posted an announcement “Hello, everyone!! Join me for a spooky (fun spooky, not scary spooky) evening next week! I’m giving a live talk virtually over Zoom on October 15th at 7pm Eastern time/4pm Pacific! Just in time for Halloween, I’ll be discussing what makes a good ghost story and explore some of the ghostly characters in BCN enjoying their tenth lives in the halls of the Big Pink House! Tillie, Winnifred Quinn, the Golden Mouse—and of course the spectral kitties of our favorite ghost radio station RCO!I’d love if you could make it, it should be a good, spooky time! This is an event that folks need to register for, so the library can email folks the invitation to the Zoom meeting! Email (staff@crossmills.org) or call Cross Mills Library to register as soon as you can. (Fun fact—Trevor’s Woman is the librarian and library coordinator making this happen! Give her a hello!!)”
One of my dear departed cats had a look we claimed could make your head explode. We also compared her to the princess and the pea- you could give her a stack of 5 blankets but if one had so much as a wrinkle you were doomed to get the look.
The man in the brown shorts has finally arrived with my book!!! Unfortunately I do not dare open the package or I will be sorely tempted to start reading and skip my physical therapy session…
Robin Harwood Day —See above, and Georgia’s comment.
National Flower Day —In the US, the rose is the national flower. Apropos, for roses look, smell, and even taste (rose hips) nice. But once you get past that, it’s a bit thorny.
National LED Light Day —Truly something to be grateful for. Every time I replace an incandescent or fluorescent bulb with an LED, the electrical bill drops a little. However, I realized not long ago that LEDs have gotten so bright that they create light pollution inside. At night, I don’t generally need to turn on a light—the various devices’ LEDs provide enough for navigation.
Bathtub Day —Time to come clean … Until the invention of hot showers, this was the way you got clean. While showers are great, there is something wonderful about a long soak in a tub. Most modern tubs are horrid for this, because the sides are all vertical, and the tub is too short. Our bathtub dates from 1901, when they still built bathtubs for adult humans. Even with a train wreck spine, you can recline in it without needing an epidural afterwards.
National Frappé Day —For years I thought “frappé” was the extreme end of the comminution scale in cooking. This may have been because in the first blender I ever encountered, frappé was the highest speed. It actually means “frozen.”
National Kale Day —Formerly known as the National Day of Horkage. You can tell kale is good for you because it tastes poisonous. Why is it a cruciferous vegetable? Because ancient Romans gave their enemies a choice: Live forever on kale, or be crucified. Most chose the latter. Since someone, somewhere, is bound to read that and think to themselves: “Scaeva usually knows what he’s talking about, especially about ancient Rome,” and take it as truth. It is not.
Perhaps we should toast Robin with kale frappé … no, that idea is …
(wait for it …)
… unappetizing. Here’s to you, Resident Doomsayer!
Know what you mean about modern bathtubs. For several years I rented for $150(!) a month a “historical” house built in the early 1800s (the last time it was on the market, several years ago, the seller was asking $250,000 based on history and location). It was a weird little place, starting out as a log cabin, that had been added onto over the centuries and covered with old asphalt siding, with every room connecting to at least two others. The bathroom had three entrances, plus a trap door in the floor that led to a spooky cellar. It also had a very large clawfoot tub that I, at 5’5", could lie almost flat in. And I think that even with my current infirmities, I would still be able to easily get in and out of it, unlike my current modern p.o.s. I miss that little house, and the tub most of all!
Nope! I was wrong before (not too far off) but I got it now!
I had put a few of “How To Cat” links out before this one, but this one is it! This is what Elvis is gonna do! Ya, I’m bettin’ Georgia already has it drawn and is just waitin’ to press Send! but in her own style of course and Elvis being the one who . . . Made the revenge happen!

Elvis-Anum: What are these round orange things Trevor-Hotep sent us?
Puckmosis: They’re some kind of decorative gourd to celebrate the Feast of Candy.
Sophititi: If you’d like, I’ll carve it into a nice sculpture.
Elvis-Anum: Alright, thanks.
Some time later
Elvis-Anum: It’s a very nice piece up there on the shelf.
Sophititi: You must tell it it is beautiful.
Elvis-Anum: Alright, you’re beautiful.
Pumpkin: Thanks, Elvis.
Elvis-Anum: You’re welcome, Tash. I see you up there!
At the Feast of Candy
Thomios: Tonight at the Feast of Candy I have a special treat. Pumpkin made into a custard and baked into a crust.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I especially love the spices in this dessert.
Elvis-Anum: I don’t. And I have a feeling they’re going to be everywhere for the next several weeks.
Lupinium: Just as long as they don’t put it in my Kat Koffee.
