it’s the quiet ones you have to watch for..you at least know what Shannon is doing..and she’ll probably end up being a genius once she finds something she’s really interested in.

Seriously – Does anyone discipline that child. No one is doing her a favor. She disobeys constantly. I hear no time outs. I hear nothing. I think everyone feels bad for her and lets it rip. Discipline her.

I’m glad the kids weren’t scary to her. The kid with four arms might at least startle people with weak constitutions. (And yes, I’m only going on about him because it keeps my mind off Shannon.)

Where IS the power outlet?? WHY didn’t Luann at least check whether it is plugged in before resuming talking with Bernice? Honestly, that girl is blonde (literally).

Again, I make my case for putting the little troll on Ritalin, fast!!!!

Shannon is the product of a missing mother and flaky father resulting in a rambunctious child.

This impossible kid reminds me of the original TV Mission Impossible, back in the early 70’s. Mr. Phelps would get a tape recorder with the bad news and then the machine would self destruct. Okay, bad news Shannon, feel free to go ahead and self destruct.

It looks like Shannon going be the antagonist this week.

Make Shannon pay for the ruined top. She must pay for it using her own belongings, which will be locked in a place Shannon has no access to. Shannon needs to pay with belongings that she dearly loves, so she will be motivated to earn them back by doing work. Allow her to earn her belongings back, but make it very difficult.

Good thing Shannon is not about 12" taller…

I guarantee Shannon wouldn’t be a problem if she were one of the Cobb kids in JumpStart.

Ben is interesting. HIs kids are polite and quiet. Are we supposed to believe this? We did meet the modern Ben and “interesting” is not the word I would use to describe him.

Only like kids that aren’t mine!!! That’s the joy of it all !!!! They get to go back to their parents!!!!

Shannon found a way to unite us. Most people don’t seem to like her.

Hate the Shannon character. Whenever she appears, I skip over the strip. Not interesting, not funny.

Shannon’s behavior is enough to change Bernice’s mind about kids again. At least until she realizes that curiosity is a natural trait in kids (though, she probably wasn’t one for much of it when she was Shannon’s age.) Luann, just be glad that when those beaters rip your top, it’s just Bernice there, instead of say, Les.

Now, Now, don’t get Mad Luann.

And be thankful the dear sweet tyke didn’t put that “bender” in your hair.

Instead, just be sure to send Jonah a Christmas card with a bill for DAMAGES inflicted by this “child.”

Let’s see:

1) That’ll be $2800 for a new couch on behalf of Brad, Toni and Old Smiley.

2) $75.00 for a new blouse for You.

3) $175 for a new “bender” for your mom and pop, because no doubt, the kid stripped the gears in that thing.

4) $5000 for emotional pain and suffering, for ALL involve including many of the fans. No. STRIKE that. That fee would mean a lawyer gets involved and they’d help themselves to 30% of the damages. ;)

Okay. So adjusted, that comes to $3,050.

And be SURE to get Bernice to deliver the card to Jonah. After all, Bern just LOVES delivering BAD news.

Shannon strikes – Bern backtracks!

You will notice that Shannon and Ann are much poorer acting than any male on this comic. As much as everybody hated “Dirk”, he ended up redeeming himself. G&K (perhaps more G) had him grow. Shannon and Ann have no redeeming qualities. BTW, after the couch destruction and now with this mixer, it’s a mere question of time before G&K have her do something that will injure somebody. BTW, you might want to notice a modern trend with G&K, it appears they have no problem having their female characters hurting people or damaging property, much more so than the males in this strip.

Awwwww…. Bernice begins to know her nephews and also begins to love them♡. So sweeeeeeet ♡♡♡! It’s interesting to see what a bender can do to a shirt. But Luann would have preferred not to know.

Shannon certainly has potential; but her window of opportunity is closing. Cute and creative are as welcome in a child as in a small puppy/kitten. That’s temporary. There’s a learning curve to becoming a loving member of a family. Kids are given a bit more time than dogs. Funny how the canines CAN learn faster; but learn they must. Shannon is becoming a slow learner; but who’s her mentor? Dare we guess at this point? Certainly not Scarlet.

I do and this is a comic strip where many times, there is exaggeration.

Hasn’t Shannon been 6 years old for several years now? Why hasn’t she grown up a bit? She should be growing up and becoming more mature and responsible.

If they don’t take control of her disruptive and destructive behavior now, there will me major consequences down the road. This isn’t funny anymore.

Somebody backhand the brat? Please?

Shannon needs a very long time out.

Shannon is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Shannon needs some discipline!

First of all I love Shannon. I think it’s juvenile for adults, many of whom have grandchildren themselves, to hate a comic caricature who is drawn to be challenging in a humorous way. I think even raising the hate issue here is puerile in the extreme. I know and have dealt personally with children who are antisocial, or psychotic, and trust me Shannon is not even in the same zip code that they are in. Even those misshapen children have to be approached not with hate. On the story itself, which hating Shannon makes one miss, and which GnK must laugh that they manage to get this kind of response. it defines both Luann, the patient loving one, many haters here consider a lazy, useless doofus, and an improving Bernice, which many here describe as a cold, unimaginative, plain, waste of comic digital ink. Sigh, hate is a more common human emotion that love or understanding, if this poll is to be taken as proof.

Worst character in the strip. Nothing says “I can’t think of anything” like Shannon showing up. The fact that NO ONE has ever considered giving her a time out or yelled at her is really annoying. What’s more, her botching of the English language was funny ONCE.

Past time for Shannon to grow an mature some; everyone else has.

It’s a comic strip but there still needs to be that relatable element to real life for it to be humorous. If she was over shown being punished for what she has done I think the attitude towards her might improve. Even Denice the Menace and Calvin are shown facing the repercussions for their actions as part of their strips. Blame the adults in the strip and the ones writing it.

Sorry, but I’ve had enough of this kid, and YES, I am well aware of her background story/history, but no excuse. Her behavior is easily corrected, but the characters do nothing, and Again, YES, I know that this is a Comic Strip, and this is precisely what the Author Wants!

Never react. Prevent. Anticipate and protect. Or don’t do it.

No she’s a brat

She can’t see Shannon as a normal child.

If someone likes Shannon….they are a sucker for punishment.

Kids are like a box of choclits… you never know what you’re gonna get. (Believe me… as a teacher I saw lots of kids from the same family you wouldn’t believe were from the same planet, and the poor parents went crazy trying to figure out what they’d done differently.)

No one remembers when Luann was this kid. Shannon is Luann, the Second Generation, until her brother starts reproducing new comic characters.

I am happy for Bernice. She overcame her fears and now has a good relationship with her brother and his kids. Seems Shannon’s shenanigans are overshadowing that.I hope Luann can do what Brad and Toni seem unwilling to do, discipline Shannon. Sit her in a chair in a quiet place and talk to her. Shannon is creative and energetic, but needs guidance, constantly. She may have other problems, but I’m not a therapist. She certainly seems to demand attention and needs to learn to wait and listen.Personally, she drives me nuts! :-)

I totally do not understand the folks who compare Shannon to Ann!!!!! The two have totally different personalities and spirits. Shannon is wild and bratty at times because she’s had no consistent parenting. But Ann is a sociopath who will stop at nothing to connive her own way no matter who gets hurt. Shannon is not bent on hurting anyone. She is precocious but not mean spirited and I’ve never seen her be conniving in any way.

Should they like Shannon?!? As she’s presented to us by Greg Evans, there’s really nothing redeemable about her. She obviously needs TONS of limits that nobody sets with her.

Thinking of the difference between comic fan’s perceptions of Shannon and Dennis the Menace. It may be because Shannon is perceived as whiny and tantrum prone.

I suppose this confirms that Shannon learned nothing from the incident with the scissors. Told ya that Brad should have disciplined her rather than babying her and assuming she learned her lesson.

That’s a big NO! She’s not fun, funny or the least bit interesting. Just annoying. Unfortunately, a lot like one of my granddaughters.

I can’t stand her. I think she drags the strip down. She’s obnoxious all the time. And it bothers me that Toni and Brad take care of her—probably with no financial help from Shannon’s dad—without complaint or demanding Shannon’s father be a father. Greg and Karen should resolve that storyline, preferably that we never see Shannon again.

I hope she doesn’t get her fingers caught in the beaters.

What strip character received the most negative comments this year in Luannville? Anne Eiffel or Shannon? Larry McMurtry was always praised for his strong female characters; Greg and Karen seem to have an alternative talent.

Will SOME sort of discipline be coming? PLEASE? At least a time out? Come on!

Not really a fan of her arcs but would enjoy her exploits a lot more with a few tweaks to make her more likable. A kid doesn’t have to be a destructive brat to be interesting.

Okay, I’ve read all of the comments about Shannon, and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are three camps where she is concerned:

Camp 1 — “I hate Shannon.”

Camp 2 — “I like Shannon.”

Camp 3 — “I like Shannon, however…"

I’m in that third “camp”.

Sigh. Where’s the tranquilizers when you need them?

Shannon is called in from the bullpen when one of the starters is not making it. Sorry, but Bernice was not making it.

A couple weeks ago, I speculated (but didn’t officially go out on a limb and predict) that G&K were using the painted couch as throw-away punchline and that we might never hear any more about it. Today, just to be a contrarian to what I’ve seen in a lot of the comments above, I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Luann will impose some sort of consequence on Shannon for today’s faux pas with the “bender.”

If I’m wrong, well, it won’t be the first time. And in any case, what I won’t do is go on a rant about what terrible writers the Evanses are and how they’re torturing us poor captive readers and what a crying shame it is because Luann has such potential to be a great comic strip if only someone could fire their sorry behinds and put meeeeeeeee in charge.

Which part of ‘You Don’t’ didn’t she understand? Toni needs to start working with this child. FAST!

Brad: You don’t. You wait. Put it down, Shannon.

(10 years later. Brad’s own child is sitting on his lap, a few days before Christmas)

Child: Is that what happened to your hand, Daddy? You used to have 5 fingers?

Brad (smiles wistfully) Yes, honey. But I managed to get along with 3 fingers for years now. At least I still have my thumb.

Child: What happened to Shannon?

Brad: Well, her Daddy felt bad about this for a short while. Then he bought an RV and took Shannon with him. He drove all around the country to be an actor, and she went with him. We never babysat her again, and he never asked. We still exchange Christmas cards, but that’s it.

Child: Oh Daddy! I’m so sorry about your hand!

Brad: Well, Mommy and I learned a lot that day. No more permissive parenting. So we raised you right. No touching paint, or power tools, or kitchen appliances without permission.

Child: Yes, Daddy! I know! I don’t touch grownup stuff!

and how would that tie in with Christmas?
