Now Bernice changes her mind and rather it to be explosive plumbing than a hot fling. Go talk with Jack as Ben suggested so you could feel like a foolish ninny when Jack goes “What ya talking about? Hot fling with Luann? When did we have the fling? That’s news to me. Describe it for me please?” Then after your rant about sneaking into her Luann’s room, he says, “I’d rather sneak into yours.”

When Bernice finds out it was a girl that climbed in she will go nut’s.

Bernice is way too upset about Luann sneaking someone in her room for a person who let Piro stay in her room all night against the rules she so zealously enforced.

Bern should go talk to Jack. You never know, he might say: “Me in Luann’s room? When? Oh, well I was out getting an early morning run in that morning and I saw the weirdest thing; party girl Tara jumping out of Luann’s window and then running away through the bushes with Luann waving at her…..” Anyhow not sure if Ben is doing his sister any solids by feeding her paranoia and insecurities though.

Bern, you’ll eventually learn that with some things, you have a choice: Either continue to worry about it and try and find out the answer, or not continue to worry about it and shut up already. But obsessing about it and claiming you’re not doesn’t fool anybody.

And now thanks to the second panel I can’t unsee Bernice having a conversation with her doppelganger…. How naive I was when I thought only Gunther had a twin.

Just ask Jack if he was even over there and be surprised by his answer.

In point of fact, plumbing explosions are a thing. Bernice will be able to google that. Giving her an excuse to go talk to Jack. Whose plumbing is presumably okay.

Wouldn’t Ben’s correct response be “good for them”? Why would he send his sister to talk to someone she barely knows about his possible sex life?

Don’t go ask Jack. Bern. You do not have a right to know the details of Luanns life. Ben old buddy. Your advise is off the mark.

Of course, the obvious question that Ben isn’t asking here is “How do you know it’s Jack?”.

Good advice! I really like Ben’s irony. He knows what to say to calm even the implacable Bernice. Maybe they’ll accidentally meet Jack right now, while he’s taking one of his walks (I’d love to see Ben meet Jack♡). Or Bernice will go through her usual amount of thoughts and fear before calling him. I hope Ben is with her throughout all this ♡.

If Jack is interested in Bern he would probably have second thoughts if he heard her right now. She has a terrible habit of over analyzing everything and still jumping to the wrong conclusion.

I’m commenting on our collective like of the Luannaverse, and our reactions to the comments of others. We all read this strip because we like the Luannaverse, but some of us like a parts of it better than others. For example the characters. Some of us have very strong feelings, positive and negative, about the characters Often that results in other commenters attacking a comment by someone who either likes or doesn’t like a character. A good example is Shannon. Some people like her, some people hate her. Same goes true for several other characters including Bernice.

The social media can often be a venue for strong personal attacks. Because we are here because we like this strip, let’s not make it a place of personal attacks.

In that regard, let’s also keep current politics out of this trip. There are other strips that focus on political issues and they have become an area of very strong personal attacks.

Imagine if Ben & Bernice had grown up together, he would have checked her ego in these kinds of situations. That would have kept her from spiraling like she does.

Doesn’t anyone notice that Bernice is having a pleasant walk and talk with Ben and kicking things around like a regular brother and sister?

Bernice, you can’t go around accusing Luann of something that might not be true.

Given the resemblance that goes beyond siblings, it’s like Bernice’s brother is almost her imaginary creation.

“Go have an honest talk with Jack”? Even if it was actually Jack in her room, why would he tell her anything other than to mind her own business?

It’s funny Bernice would consider a plumbing explosion more likely than the possibility of Luann having sex. She knows her friend well.

Wow…“maybe his plumbing exploded” and then googling plumbing explosions. Is Ben suggesting that Jack had a plumbing emergency at his house and had to come to Luann for shelter? Or is it a snide little sexual innuendo? If so, then Jack’s plumbing would explode after not before coming to Luann’s bedroom. The whole conversation makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe they are trying to influence their younger readers to pursue careers in the plumbing trades, maybe whoever writes these scripts is just a moron. Either way I enjoy seeing the absolute nonsense of it every day.

This arc is all part of an overall arc set, which starts, I think, with Bernice’s need to move into Luann’s house. It becomes the breeding ground for silliness, for the characters relationship with each other, with new/old characters like Ben and his story and Bernice’s coming to terms with the family issues, while at the same time intersecting with Luann and her relationship with Bernice (and DeGroot’s as well) with Tara being a glue that will stick somewhere, and of course there is this delicate, one-sided dance with Jack. That is all I can think of today, except that I am really enjoying all the arcs. Great way to start 2021.

‘plumbing explosions’ sounds like a really bad metaphor for sex.

I fail to see what her talking to Jack will accomplish. Is she going to ask him if he spent the night with Luann? If so, that would REALLY be overstepping her boundaries! Jack isn’t her BFF or even a close friend.

Now they’re probably going to run into Jack and Bernice will make all sorts of veiled accusations. Jack won’t know what the heck she’s talking about. Wacky hijinks ensue.

Luann may be having a giggle at Bern’s expense, but having had acquaintances like Tara, given a choice she would be personally better off by getting busy with hunky Jack.

Bernice see’s the world through her anxiety and her phone-they feed each other.

Why not just mind your own business, Bernice? I’m surprised she didn’t follow Luann to the dog park to confirm who she was with.

Even if Jack (or any other guy) snuck into Luann’s room it would NOT be any of Bernice’s business. What exactly would she say to a man in that situation? “So Jack, How was the intercourse with Luann?” Nope, nothing for Bernice to talk about.

How could this get so much worse for LuAnn. Bern should go ask Nancy about what she heard and if she ever caught a man in LuAnns bedroom before. Then she could go talk to Brad and see if he ever heard anything either.

… or you could mind your own business.

Pro tip: Don’t Google “plumbing explosion” when you’re at work.

I sense another dream sequence involving water on the way.

Stop with the taking swipes at these characters for jumping to conclusions and making bad assumptions. It’s a staple of humorous situations.

Nobody ever chided Lucy Ricardo for jumping to conclusions!

Phrasing

I’m not going to read through all 169 comments to see if anybody else already suggested that maybe his plumbing exploded AFTER he snuck into Luann’s room.

I’m pretty sure the reason for all the conflict is that Bernice is pretty sure jacks plumbing exploded all over Luann

Even if he was, so WHAT?

Yesterday, Bernice was walking to Ben’s right side. Today, she’s on his left.

Of course, they could have switched positions between strips…

Either Bernice should drop it or, as Ben first suggested talk to Jack, which may be a good idea anyway. But her mind seems made up, even though she’s looking for excuses to made it untrue. Unless they run into Jack, I don’t see this conversation going anywhere positive. Could it be more interesting at the Fuse? Or anywhere?

Remember how Delta disappeared as she was a boring character. Well I am kind of this way with Bernice. Nothing really exciting about her, just a rules maven.

Scenario sounds so silly. However, wars and vendettas have started with even less evidence; not that gossip and making up facts are evidence….

Bernice has got to be one of the most dull uninteresting characters in comics.

I lived in a house with two doors. One door connected to the front of the house and the other door led to my room. Both doors opened to the front porch. The number of times I came back from an early morning run and was going in at the same time a roommate’s boyfriend was exiting the other door… always an awkward encounter.

No matter how you slice it, this isn’t going to end well. If Bernice confronts Luann about Jack supposedly sneaking into Lu’s room at night, Lu will most likely milk that for all it’s worth, just to get a rise out of her and continue the “joke.” If Bernice confronts Jack, he’s going to embarrassed and offended, first with Bernice for thinking such a thing of him, and next with Luann for perpetuating such a scenario. Nope. This isn’t going to end well for anybody.

I would like to see Bern confront Jack. And then Jack walk away hurt so that Bern + Jack never happens. Bern’s next thought would be, " if it wasn’t Jack, then who was with Luann", instead of, “mind your business, Bern.” Why exactly has Bern gone off the rails? Jealous that Jack likes Luann enough to be in her bedroom? Angry that Luann did not confide in her (being sneaky about Jack)? Why didn’t Bernice merely ask Luann what was going on (the alarm going off woke me, I heard someone in your room)? Time to ship Bern to the same place Knute, Krystal, and Delta are hanging out.

And, Jack, not having the slightest Idea what she’s babbling about, calls the men with Butterfly Nets to haul her away.
