Hmm. Frank & Nancy’s house is becoming the DeGroot shelter for homeless girls. Speaking of homeless, where is Tara’s family? How has she paid her tuition?
Tara gets points for wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day, Luann gets points for stealing some pie on Pi Day, and cold nosed Bernice gets points for warming up to a former enemy. Now, enter Frank and Nancy. Somehow I don’t think this will be anything like High Noon at the O.K. Corral, but Nancy will make Luann pay for the banana cream pie.
Looks like Bernice is a little jealous. After hating and vilifying Tara for months, suddenly she’s all: “NO Luann! You can’t have her! She’s MY friend!!”
And it isn’t really Bernice’s room after all. She’s just a guest in the DeGroot home. If Luann needs permission to have an overnight guest, then Bernice DEFINITELY needs permission to have an overnight guest!
Yep, Luann’s continued demonstration of lack of common sense. The house is not hers. She has to ask her parents for permission. She has to learn this adult step. She is not in the position to cry and beg for a friend to sleep over like a teenager. She has to behave grown up and ask AND accept if her parents say no. I hope they do say no. Bernice is already occupying the third bedroom. Tara can sleep on the couch for the night but would need to look for a place tomorrow. Let the girls brainstorm where they can stow Tara that is not a place of business.
I’m waiting for the story before demanding anything of it I want but I will hide behind prediction yet again. I think, after a short version of a talk the DeGroots will temporarily allow Tara to bunk with Bernice and Luann, arrangements to be made (Tara clearly wants too, the shyly whispered question) starting the room competition. Beyond that I predict no further. Three more days for this phase of the arc.
Tara should stay with someone tonight because, like, she just got hit by a car. Other than that—what’s up with the “…okay…” re: her old place? Besides probably not being able to afford the rent by herself? Maybe we’ll find out, hard to say.
Unreal. After that whole ordeal and sleeping in a storage room for days…. Tara says that staying in her old place (now that Stella is gone) is… “okay”?!? You would think she’d be thrilled to have her life go back to normal but it looks like she’s trying to guilt Luann into helping her some more. I hope Luann’s parents say their piece and not hold anything back. Luann’s behavior has been childish, irresponsible and all together atrocious!
I, personally, believe Tara should go live in some remote wilderness with a krav maga master, who can truly teach her the ways of krav maga, similar to that master who taught Uma Thurman kung fu in “Kill Bill 2.” Because whatever Tara did, well, it made no sense, and it didn’t stop Stella.
Funny how Bernice and Luann are sort of competing on whose room Tara stays in. Especially since it wasn’t a long time ago that Bernice thought she was bad news. As for the folks? Yeah, they don’t look none too happy right now. But I bet they’ll let Tara crash at the house. At least for the time being, that is….
Hopefully the hammer’s about to fall. I’m sure Frank and Nancy won’t leave Tara on the street, but Luann needs to be reminded that she isn’t in charge.
Awwwwww… Tara looks so happy to have two friends who want to help her. I think she has always known a lot of people, but she never had real friends. I’m quite surprised that Bernice offered to share her room, but this is really nice of her♡. But now it’s time for the parents to join the conversation! i hope this will change Tara’s opinion about adults, at least a little bit.
Tara’s old place is “okay”. So vague. Where is it? Is it with her parents? Is it a tent? What about her plans to move to Utah? She seems to be milking this situation and it’s not a very good look for her. Just one time I would like to see someone, anyone, tell Luann what a complete blithering idiot she is. They write her character to behave ridiculously so they ought to be able to have a character call her out on it.
Another perfect example of todays youth and how they act like they have the right to do anything they want while being totally self-absorbed, entitled, rude and ignorant. They didn’t even think about asking permission. It never even crossed their minds.
Luann is an adult. She is trying to help a friend. I am certain Luann’s areproud to have raised a daughter who has friends she wants to help – only unhappy that they were not in on it since it involves their home and business.
Apparently, since she has “her own place,” we can take it that Tara is an emancipated female? And, since she’s no longer welcome at the Mooney Uni. dorms.
Are we ever gonna get the back story on Tara? More than she just got in with a bad group at the Uni?
The serious talk is just going to come down to “talk to us if you need help, and maybe stop offering your friends access to spaces you don’t own without asking”
I hope the end result of this is that Luann’s parents suggest that it’s time she live on her own, thus prompting the three girls to share an apt. together. It would be a bit silly to turn the de Groot home into a rooming house.
Tata is a little shaken up and it probably wouldn’t hurt to have someone be with her for 24 hours. LuAnn, why not go spend the night at her place instead of your own bedroom. Let Bern tagalong. Invite Dez over. I miss Dez.
All of the installments this week have me feeling rather sad. I am sad about the immaturity displayed by both Luann and Bernice (and Tara also to a degree). Do not get me wrong, I am glad that Tara is “ok” it seems, and I am glad that the situation has been diffused.
However,
1. The relative nonchalance about the whole affair this week that has been displayed by Luann and Bernice seems rather ill-fitting and inappropriate. I would think that at the start of the week, they would not have been just “having a grand time” but instead would have likely been talking more about the emotions that transpired during the horrible event to try to gain perspective of what happened and WHY it happened.
2. The whole reliving of “Tara’s moves” and Luann re-enacting them and Tara talking about the alternative moves she should have made…. read to me that both of them are being rather too cavalier about this whole event. They are looking at it from a “making fun” and a “glory” sort of perspective IMO. That seems pretty damn presumptuous and narrow-focused.
3. The “where will Tara stay” portions are also troublesome to me. I do not really care if you are a young adult (like Luann and Bernice) and are staying in your parent’s (or friend’s parent’s) house….. or if you are an older adult with family or other people staying in the household…. you should not automatically presume/assume that YOU can unilaterally invite someone to enter and stay in a household of multiple people….. WITHOUT asking the others in that household for their “ok” or their “approval”. Such a move should be a HOUSEHOLD decision….. whether it is Luann who brings it up, or Bernice, or either of the DeGroot parents who do. It should be a group decision. THAT is the adult way to do this.
And, just to be clear… I am not saying Luann or Bernice should not invite Tara “because it is not their house”. I am saying that Luann or Bernice should not invite Tara WITHOUT having….
… a talk with all the members of the home. I would feel the same about Mr. or Mrs. Degroot. It is their house…. but… if they were to invite Tara unilaterally, I think it would be wrong. If either of the parents wanted to invite Tara, they should FIRST involve all the members of the household in a discussion of the possibility of this invitation….. and decide AS A HOUSEHOLD to offer this invitation to Tara.
It’s nice that the girls are bonding and each offering their rooms….Yep, quite a radical idea, ask the parents, the ones footing the bills and who care and may have other solutions. ;-)
I like that Frank and Nancy are addressing the situation here, but I’m a little disappointed that Bernice’s sneaking, lying and spying has apparently been forgotten. Man, I wish I had a friend as airheaded as Luann who I could get away with treating so disrespectfully (that was a joke BTW; my own sense of guilt is too strong for that).
Tara should go back to her old place. Homes for people that age are often little more than shacks, and sometimes they are shacks. One cannot expect a life of luxury at that age. That little apartment or trailer is just a start, but it can still be home.
Who could possibly imagine the notion of getting permission from the owners of the house before moving someone in? Get real, Frank and Nancy. These are 21st century narcissistic child-adults….
It’s time for Tiffany to drive by the Fuse…see the lights on… and go inside. Tiffany will let Tara stay at her big house. Later on Tara can tutor Tiffany.
Luann to Bernice in Luann’s first daily strip, 3/18/85: “Why can’t I have all my problems when I’m 18 and know everything?” Spoken like a normal 17-24 year old, when the young fledglings are pushing for independence. That’s why we don’t ask our parents for help at that age, even though we should.
After about 25 or so, we start to realize We Know Nothing. Or normal people do, anyway. If someone starts spouting they “know more” than doctors/generals/lawyers while having not one shred of education or experience in said fields, make your escape as quick as you can, and do not elect them to any kind of public office. Smart people understand there is always more for them to learn.

Hoo Boy, here We go.
It’s “Slap on the Wrist” time for Luann.
Nope.
I don’t expect Luann get any real “punishment” out of this graphic illustration of extremely poor judgement.I think this is merely leading up to another modified “living” arrangement for the Strip’s young ladies.
Maybe with one or more of them doing “community” service by working at the Fuse.
And Tara’s old place could be the Strip’s “Bachelorette” locale, with the Three Amigas moving in.
It would be a lot more fun and a darn sight better than the early days of the Gulag.
That is, until Stella is released (escapes) from prison………, ;)
