Team Woman’s Sister for life! They’re only little once and this has been almost 2 years of poop. Let them find happiness in a squirrel suit and a bowl of cranberry sauce. We adults should be so lucky to find joy so easily.
Anybody want to see a picture of my then 3 year old daughter in her frilly Pretty dress, worn with old scuffed, cracking black boots? Any attempt to get her in nice shoes was met with a screaming fit. She’s 55 now, so what did it matter in the long run!
How is hyoomans arriving breaking cat news? Get back to reporting what really matters to cats, cat. Like, what’s on the mouthwatering menu and what all delicious delicacies, fabulous foods, scrumptious savouries, magnificent meats, enjoyable eats, and splendid sweets are on the counter. Okay, maybe not the sweets. You cats don’t eats those. But ya sure wants to tastes whatever’s on the counter.
Dang! I should have posted this a couple of days ago, but if you’re celebrating Thanksgiving on Friday, or the weekend, you might want to try making Hubby’s grandmother (Texas-born-and-bred) cream pecan pie that we prefer over the sticky sweet one. “Tasting History with M*x Miller” on YouTube did a pecan pie video using an historic recipe that’s similar—but his uses brown sugar and makes less filling.
Cream Pecan Pie
1/3 c sifted flour (or 1/4 c cornstarch)
2/3 c sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 c pecans (chopped)
2 c milk
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
1/2 tsp vanilla
a pastry shell
Mix dry ingredients. Whip eggs and milk; add to dry ingredients. Heat slowly on stovetop, stirring until thick. When thickened, remove from heat and stir in pecans. Put mixture in baked pie shell. If meringue used, brown in oven.
P.S. Tammy of Coll*rd Valley Cooks cooks her custard-type pie fillings in a large, Pyrex batter bowl in the microwave—puts it in the micro for 2–3 minutes at a time, stirring it between sessions; usually only takes two sessions.
Happy Thanks giving! My menu today: Cornish game hen, with a cornbread maple sausage, stuffing. Baked 3 cheese macaroni. Snow peas. mashed potatoes and home made gravy. Cheddar biscuits, And for dessert- Apple pie, pecan pie and vanilla bean ice cream.
This was my philosophy for parenting. There is no harm in letting kids have their little victories. If they are playing with pots and pans, let them get away with the mischief. Do they want to make a little mess playing with my shaving foam? Yeah that’s O.K. We can teach them to help clean up after they’ve had their fun.Let them steal the occasional cookie when they think you’re not looking, but keep them from making a habit of it.
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! I am so thankful for Georgia, BCN and The Orb! You brighten my morning every day! I’ll be gone a few days for family Thanksgiving so HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!! May this day be the beginning of a good year for all.
1/2 measure of Felix Bigallet China-China Amer orange liqueur
One shake of orange bitters
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and stir vigorously for about 30 seconds. Pour into a chilled Martini glass and garnish with an orange slice.
When the oldest boy was in first grade, the teacher helped the students make pilgrim hats and collars to wear to lunch on the last day of school before Thanksgiving. J-L, ever the one to spin things the way he wanted them, wore the Native American costume that my mother had made him to school that day. Luckily, it was a warm day. His teacher told me later that when he walked into class he looked her straight in the eye and said, “There were more Indians than Pilgrims.” She said she couldn’t argue with that so he got to wear it all day.
And before anyone asks, yes, we do have Native American heritage in our family. Mom’s paternal grandmother was a member of the Alabama-Coushatta tribe. I have a few memories of her from when I was very young, of her taking her dentures out and chasing us kids around and saying she was gonna get us. We’d fall over ourselves giggling and trying to get away.
What a concept. I think I’ma eat only cramberry sauce also. (Oh wait, I drove 115 miles for that turkey…) Enjoy the holiday, all! Mad boops to each of you!
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m grateful I was able to spend time with some folks from Dad’s side of the family in October, and am getting to spend Thanksgiving with Mom’s side – smaller this year, since we lost two more; so all the more important to gather.
I’m guessing the woman and her sister’s father must be the redhead since it looks like the Nana is blond. I can’t tell you how many times people would ask me that when they saw blond me with my little redheaded daughter. “Oh my, where did she get the red hair?” I was always thinking, “What, you can’t figure it out?”
It’s such a slow news week that “Ocean Spray upside down label” is a BIG story. I’ve known this for years. Of course, the media has it all screwed up. The label is right side up it’s the can that’s upside down. Sheesh! :)
Wishing all a happy, fulFILLING, and relaxing holiday, especially Georgia and family. For those not in the US, wishing you a happy, fulfilling, relaxing Thursday.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! And let her have this one. This world is a poopy place and it seems to get poopier by the day. Enjoy what you can enjoy as long as you can.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, I too am thankful many things, and for the Orb and the little community we’ve built here! May we all have even more to be thankful for next year!
I’m Hamilton A. Cat and this is my first Thanksgiving. I gonna help Dad cook and I will do a good job. Never mind about the steak incid..incid…thingy, it was fake news. Gotta go, Dad is coming.

Late check-in from NC. The Girl had quite a day. First time eating Cranberry Space Goo, first time eating stuffing made from her great-great-grandmother’s family recipe, an unlimited supply of mashed potatoes, a similarly unlimited supply of ice cream – with whipped cream, no less! – for dessert, and a new family member to meet, the Great-Uncle, who arrived from Florida early this afternoon in his very large, very cool truck!
Other firsts today were getting to help The Gigi set the table, and helpfully running several laps around the tree in the front yard as The Great-Uncle, The Pop, and The Boy put Christmas lights on it after dinner.
