In the last panel, Nil has her to hold on, and he appears to be listening to his inner common sense telling him to get away quickly to dodge this bullet. I think he is also listening to see of his car is responding to the remote start so he can haul.

Maybe Nil is impressed with Luann’s way of thinking.

He’s too busy imagining it to answer if he can image it.

He’s asking exactly the right question: “Do you like it?” I think the only thing that put him off was thinking that Bernice was playing a role. But if she genuinely likes it (and she seems so happy that it’s like she really did find a lost piece of herself) then that would make the outfit beautiful to him, if for no other reason.

It seems that Nil would have preferred the leather shorts with studs much more. But Bernice’s choice was different and she’s so happy ♡… Nil likes her so much that he doesn’t want to make her sad. This is a big change in him. The first time they were on a date with Jack and Luann, Nil seemed to have lost all interest in Bernice after learning she wasn’t a Tim Burton fan and had just told her that that was a big No to any possible relationship. Now he supports her, even if she decides to wear clothes he doesn’t like, because she loves them♡. The truth is, the breakup and the “pact” with her being his muse was an excuse to make Bernice feel more relaxed and continue the relationship, Nil loves her and is waiting for Bernice to be able to have a relationship without freak out. Maybe that time is near.

Personally I think Nil seems more disturbed by the thought of her in leather & studs than turned on.

Nil is trying to decide if he wants to envision Bernice in leather shorts with studs or if he should block it out of his mind. Or maybe a envisioning a thumbnail sketch of a piece of art inspired by it.

Nil does not answer her question, instead he asks her one. Good deflection and self-centered Bernice doesn’t even notice.

Why does it have to be an either/or question, when the answer can be BOTH, in the appropriate setting.

Obviously Nil is still attracted to Berniece. These two are so interesting together. I hope we continue to see them as friends, artist and muse, whatever. And Berniece’s new look is starting to grow on me. If she’s happy then that’s a good thing!

Upon reflection, I am just realizing how dishonest Bernice was in saying that Luann was the one who was “trying to get her into leather shorts with studs.” Bernice finds it terrifying that she herself even considered such an outfit, and has to “outsource” the responsibility to the hapless Luann. I’m wondering whether Nil knows both of the women well enough that he suspects the same.

And if Bernice can’t tell by now that Nil HATES her new look, she’s in a heap of trouble.

I need a second too. Even an artist’s imagination can only stretch so far. (But Dez the Earth Mother would probably approve of the thrift-store glam look if anyone would.)

It’s nice to see Bernice having fun with her new look. She’s actually happy and relaxed. Now all she has to do is realize she can do that for herself – it doesn’t have to please someone else.

To all those who said the studs and leather shorts was NOT Luann’s idea please take another look at the June 30th strip. Luann is clearly holding said item in her hand and asking if it’s a good muse look for Berniece. I think folks are confusing those shorts with that “contraption” Berniece looked at earlier.

There are lots of women on who this outfit would look rather attractive. Bernice is not one of them. Even moreso than her usual attire, it really emphasizes her lack of curves.

Bernice has changed the very things that attracted Nil.

I love that Bernice loves her new look! The new look goes better with her darling curly lob; her old look was more befitting to Tiffany’s helmet head. (Give Tiffany a new hairstyle, please!!!) But I also hope that Bernice knows she doesn’t have to stick to just one look/persona, but can wear hats of many different colors. Just save the winter hats for winter, k? ;)

(I know the knit hat thing for guys is the skaterboyz/grunge thing. It’s supposed to keep their hair out of their eyes while skateboarding, but from what I’ve seen, it’s mainly used to cover grimy hair. Ewww!)
