This was back before the eggplant emoji became a symbol for something.

Eggplant builds character, Dad.

Calvin’s mom seems to never cook anything he likes.

My initial reaction was that the first snowman, on the left had been hit by a hit-and-run driver (possibly, even dad), and the others were mourning its decease…

I just love Calvin’s imagination, especially in his snow man.

Every time this particular strip cycles through, I laugh just as hard as the first time I saw it.

If he only applied as much gray matter to other things!

We used to have a recipe that used eggplant to make something good, but I can’t remember what it was.

I like the details, such as the little pile of snow vomit in front of the last snowman.

I love this snowmen arc. When I describe Calvin and Hobbes to other people who haven’t heard of it, this is always one of my examples.

H-m-m-m-m-m I kinda get a ‘vague’ impression that eggplant is not Cal’s favorite.

Calvin should have used all the snow in the driveway to make the snow men.

I’ve made eggplant in some kind of pasta dish once… prepared it how it was supposed to be prepared, (I believe it involved slicing and salting and allowing the liquid to drain out of the eggplant) took a lot of time and care.

I trusted the recipe because it was from a Food Network chef with quite a few recipes I had loved and turned out well.

The gagging and retching that went around the table that night was a sight to behold! And it was not faked. Even I couldn’t shovel it down. I believe we did end up ordering pizza that night and the pasta went to the raccoons and other critters.

My mother would smother eggplant slices in corn meal, then fry them “to death”. Horrible. Her recipe for fish fillets was the same. I was in my late 20s before I discovered how fish (and eggplant) were supposed to taste. :) :(

I think by this point I’ve read the entire run of Calvin and Hobbes by reading a strip every day since joining GoComics.

LOL… Eggplant is not my fav, either. Well, I will eat it with a LOT of cheese.

The snow vomit is a nice touch.

Eggplant gets a bum rap in my opinion. Mostly because many in the west don’t know how to properly prepare it. Like spinach if you don’t cook it right it can be distasteful by I suspect that Mom has a pretty good recipe and a casserole is a great why to use what is technically a large berry.

You guys are NOT going to believe this, but my wife and I fixed Ratatouille (egg plant casserole) for dinner. We have never fixed this before, and have probably not eaten egg plant in 20 years. And we happen to have it the same day this cartoon comes out? What are the odds??
