The 1st story arc of 2023 is a Bernice story??? That’s it. The year is officially ruined! LOL

Mm-mm-mmm. . . .

Oh boy. Looks like we’re off to a great start for 2023.

So Bernice gets free room and board just for keeping the DeGroots’ finances in order?

I want a deal like that.

And We’re starting off with Bernice.

Not a very auspicious “start.”

And it looks like she she’ll remain staying for free at the DeGroots for the foreseeable future.

Oh well.

Maybe “things” will pick up by Match.

PS: How long has there been “desert rationing” at the DeGroot household?

Nancy’s response in the last panel suggests that Frank has lost that loving feeling and Nancy has to take things in hand, herself. And it looks like we will never find how who or what broke the window in Tiffany’s house. Maybe someone throw Nancy’s book away, it broke the window then disintegrated into dust by the time anyone got around to looking for it,

I am not sure if Coverly’s Cove is a reference to Dave Coverly who does the comic strip “Speed Bump” or a reference to the Covington Cove series of books.

And we’re off to an interesting start.

A modern business that runs on paper documents? How old is Bernice, really?

Bernice.Not a single likable aspect of her whatsoever.I don’t recall her offering anything positive to Luann or having anything in common with her since I started reading this strip.THATS her “best friend “ huh?

I don’t think Bernice is telling the truth about finishing the book.

I don’t get the reference. What’s the joke?

Bernice recalls the book with crossed arms and her usual smirk. Now Nancy is another matter, she is almost mesmerized thinking of the book’s steamy love scenes and unbridled passion. Look out Frank, you’re about to meet the new, Nancy of the Night.

Is that all Bern is doing in the DeGroot household? Wasn’t she making big hearty breakfasts for the family, taking out the trash, etc.?

Why couldn’t they have bonded over their love of murder mystery novels? Anything but this.

A dessert makes Nancy think of a book and Bernice seems to agree… wow…. These two have become friends, maybe more friends than Bernice is with Luann. I think Bernice is like a sister to Luann. But with Nancy I don’t think they’re like mother and daughter, more like aunt and niece or just two friends of different ages. However, their bond is growing stronger and I hope this doesn’t end up hurting Luann.

I read “Battlefield Earth” in one sitting back in the early 1980s. I think it took 13 hours. Could NOT put it down. A shame the movie was terrible.

The only book I can recall reading in was sitting was Stephen King’s Carrie.

So, Bern reads “bodice rippers” in lieu of finding a partner? Talk about safe sex!!!

Bernice’s homeless street sign would read “will bookkeep for food.”

“Hard days, harder nights” – if that is not some double-entendre, I do not know what to think. Next week, Nancy and Bernie take pole – dancing lessons and run across a “Sex For Dummies” handbook at a yard sale.

What a title! :D

So imagine everyone is at the dinner table. Nancy serves dessert but says “Oh none for you Luann, I promised yours to Bernice”. Is that the way it would go? In what universe is that a plausible scenario?

Why do I get the feeling that Bernice is secretly trying to steal Luann’s place as Frank and Nancy’s daughter, just to make Luann feel inferior?

Bernice is the only interesting arc. The rest have become inane

I don’t have the slightest idea what they’re talking about. What’s a “cove book.” Why would Nancy find it hard to stay seated? Why would that make her give it to Bernice?

And here I was hoping we were going to learn more about the break in at the mansion.

So we start out 2023 focusing on Benice and Nancy’s dirty fantasies. Great.

What the heck’s a “cove book”?

Mrs. G is not helping Bernice’s libido! Is this the year she loses her “innocence”?

They both share an interest in the book. Making me wonder if they will share an interest in each other. Maybe they could read it together.

The only difference between one’s glasses and the other’s eyes is a straight line.

And yet the book still hasn’t helped Bernice’s unpleasant personality. Just how many of these “Bernice learns to loosen up a bit (but the lesson doesn’t stick past the end of the week)” storyarcs are there gonna be?

Still, at least we get a bit of Nancy, who Bernice isn’t gonna dare insult like she does her so-called “best friend.”

Is that the successor to “50 Shades of Grey?”

I like that Bernice and Nancy have an appreciation for one another and can talk. Calm start to new year. Probably won’t last long. Frustration and angst will eventually set in. Maybe when Luann walks in? =;-)

Room and board are worth 4 binders. Yikes.

I like it. It shows that Bern has no life and will never understand the woes of mortal people.

First off, I don’t hate Bernice, she is a work in Luannverse time progress. But Mordy brought up a point that I think is important: Bernice and Nancy seem to have a closer, relationship, more friends than her daughters BF/temporary, paying roommate. Sharing steamy novels is something Nancy would not likely do with Luann. Should she? Bernice also has been shown doing all kinds of things Luann is deficient at, including keeping her room clean. etc. But then the two young adults are ying and yang anyway. So, let’s see developments.

Aww these two are bonding. Pretty snarky remark by Berniece about getting rewarded with Luann’s dessert. She reminds me of the girl with dark intentions who worms her way into the unsuspecting family’s good graces only to wreak havoc in all those old Lifetime movies. lol

These two could actually write books. Both have the willpower to stick to what they start. It would be funnier if Frank were the author of romance novels.

I think it’s really creepy that Nancy has nurtured a mature, sexual relationship with her daughter’s friend. And is Bernice doing their bookkeeping now? Since when does putting together a few binders once a year worth a whole years’ rent??

Poor Frank

Bernice didn’t say how she was sitting reading that “Bodice Ripper.” From what Nancy is implying, she had to get up and fan herself a “few” times while she was reading it.

Is it anything like the Carpetbaggers?

These type books are something these two share in common. Luann is not interested in this type of “literature” and Nancy would probably not be comfortable talking to her daughter this way.

I think this conversation is going to move on to Bern’s relationship with Nil.

So Bern & Nancy are getting a little frisky. Could be interesting if their comments get more frisky – but otherwise this will be a flat tire at the onset of the trip.

Free Room AND board for organizing Nancy’s work records. Well I guess Bern doesn’t have any money – so this is kindness from the DeGroots.

Personally I find books like this more laughable than hot. What do the rest of Luann’s female readers think? Are you a fan of this type of thing and if so, why?
