Not hardly Earl. She just wants a clean house so she doesn’t wait around for you to clean up after yourself because it would be a long wait wouldn’t it?
Like the song goes: “Oh Lord it’s Hard to be Humble, When everything’s going your way, I hate to look in the Mirror, ’cause I get better looking each day”!
If Opal ever needs help, and maybe she has at some point, and Earl has to step up and take her to the hospital, manage alone for a while, and then take care of her, I will have more respect for him if he can do it without making a mess of everything. He is lazy.
I knew a couple who constantly bickered, argued and complained at each other. I thought they must have been miserable. He passed away and she would tell everyone what a wonderful man he was. Go figure . . . ;-D
She puts up with you for three reasons: the pension you’ve earned after working 40 or 50 years to support her, your life insurance policy and the certainty that she’ll outlive you and get to spend all that money at the fabric store. RIP Earl. That’s your life. Was it really worth it?

Judging by his expression, even Roscoe has a hard time believing that!

It’s pretty clear that Opal’s in it for the security. She commits 10 acts of contempt toward Earl for every ONE act of thoughtfulness.

Well it is Opal’s job. She chose it many years ago and it seems too late to quit.

Earl’s an old pair of slippers. Worn out and a little ragged from wear. But, comfortable.
