That hill reminds me of the various hills on an old golf course near the house I was born and raised in the first 11 years of my life. The 2 best ones I recall were the steepest and overlooked 2 synthetic ponds. One of them had a sharp demon drop onto a pond. Both made for great sled rides in the winter. There was a short section of woods that separated the course property from the neighborhood and various walking/bike paths we kids made over the years. Sadly, the golf course was sold and condos now sit where the ponds once were at. The woods are gone and no more hills. Amazing how 30 years or so of progress changes things. I miss those fun times…
‘I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happening to them all.’ Ecclesiastes 9:11 KJV.
the moral of the story is you actually CAN take actions to improve your lot, like jumping out of the wagon, but if you waste energy fatalistically complaining about your “bad luck” then nothing will happen.
I will always love the time when Watterson explained “every time I wanted to get philosophical with Calvin and Hobbes, I put them in their wagon and sent them off a cliff.”

Looking it up, I see John Calvin believed in predestination in the sense that some of us are chosen to be saved and some left aside to be condemned.
