In old age, we forget what we learned.

And Thus Lies the Achievement of Wisdom !

Wisdom is finally learning to apply all that knowledge.

Hey, where does the unlearning part come in?!

If you don’t understand the meaning of a saying, its meaning becomes meaningless. And even understanding what a saying means does not mean that it is true. Do you understand what I mean?

There’s also an adage, “I was young and dumb. Now I’m only dumb.”

That’s not irony, that’s density. Not the same thing.

“We get too soon old, and too late smart” I saw a sign like that!

Youth is wasted on the young

Nelson is growing up with all the sayings in his head…he’s so confused….as is Earl!

He should just be grateful that he can REMEMBER all those sayings….

I was in IT and what you know would become obsolete in 2-3 years; so you learn something new. Repeat, repeat,.. 36 years and over a dozen “career” changes. I was done at 52.

Not so much understanding as gaining perspective.

The more you know, the more you know you don’t know

I understand and know a lot more now that when I was Nelson’s age.

The problem with growing old is that when you have finally learned the answers, they have changed the questions. ;-P

And sometimes life gives you a pop quiz before you’ve read the chapter.

In my youth I didn’t know what I didn’t know. In my dotage, the depth of my ignorance constantly astounds me. In other words, I still don’t ‘get it’.

Problem is…humans NEVER learn. We keep making the same mistakes, over and over.

Nelson’s parents should keep him at home more. Earl is NOT a good influence.

Earl is in late youth.

There are a lot of “old sayings” that are meaningless in todays world

Once we finally have the feel for something, our delight is piqued.

Let me give an example. When I was young, I learned that old people grunt when they bent over and I wondered why. Now, I understand, (but still don’t know why).

There’s another saying: there’s no fool like an old fool. Also: Live and learn; gain perspective over time. Continue to try to make sense of it. When you can synthesize into an explainable form, you have arrived at wisdom.
