Luann, I hear Gunther is now available. It’s never too late… ;)

Odd first panel because Luann has never had trouble attracting boys in high school. She even took Quill away from Tiffany.

Panel 1 may be the nicest thing she’s ever said to Luann.

I hope they develop this. Luann doesn’t just want to date, she wants to be part of a real, romantic couple, the way she was with Quill. She probably could have gone out with Jack, but she just seems him as a friend. It’s going to have to be The One, or at least someone she believes could be.

Is it my imagination or in panels 2 and 3, is Luann no longer lying on her bed, but firmly implanted into her bed?

Luann wants something that is extremely easy and simple, like a fairy tale princess and prince (“Quill”) situation. It ended when Quill chose his passion over Luann.

You’re right; they’re not drawn to you. They’re scribbled in for a while and then erased.

Luann’s expression in panel 3 appears to me as anger. Certainly that could be expected to be repellant to anyone. If she wants to invite interest or attraction, her expression should indicate outward-directed interest or curiosity and general happiness.

Why is it that there is always one girl who never gets asked to dance? She stands alone when all the others are dancing.

Gunther always picks what is logical and safe over adventurous ways. Occasionally his curiosity override the need for safety on meeting on young ladies like Rosa and Bets. He fails to differentiate himself and seeks familiarity with Luann and Bernice that often ends with no results

Looks like Puddles must add something to Luann’s life.

Let’s hope Luann realizes how lucky she is to have the kind of vibration that keeps away annoying guys who just want to hit on her. But I think Bernice is carrying things that she does onto Luann. Luann is usually kind and friendly with everyone, Bernice… definitely not. By the way, nice furious expression in the last panel.

Why is Bernice assigning her own attitudes to Luann?

1) “I’ve never been a girl that guys are drawn to.” – That’s a LIE. Lots of guys have been drawn to Luann, including one guy who was “Perfect.” The problem is, Luann keeps driving those guys OFF.

2) Bernice was sort of right in her assessment. What Bern should have said was “You consider every guy to be an idiot, and if you can’t control them, they need to go away.” But don’t feel bad about that. Bern, Bets, Stef, Tiff, Crystal and Tara, all feel the same way.

The solution? I dunno. Perhaps you ladies should go on strike, like the Writers Guild?

But truth be known, the guys in this Strip have a WORSE problem than the ladies ever will. Why? Well, unlike the ladies, most of the guys feelings toward the opposite sex are genuine and they bend over backwards to help them, when ASKED.

And unlike the ladies, the guys aren’t nowhere near as _”Demanding and Picky.”

Bernice, can’t you at least pretend to be supportive of Luann?

It’s her choice of clothing, I think. I mean, I have an old strip of her pretending to be a model while wearing a black leotard. She was beautiful and desirable. Now she puts away the skin tight leotard and opts for frumpy and loose. Not very appealing.

Wow, it’s actually the nicest thing Bernice has said to Luann in a long long time…

Luann the last time you had a guy you treated him like a belonging instead of a person. You expected him to throw away all of his passions, hopes, and dreams and just simply spend all of his reminding you that he is your boyfriend. You got upset because he wanted a career and wanted to put food on the table and not be broke. When he had to work you threw a tantrum and broke up with him and then had the nerve to say that he was the one not ready for a mature relationship.

Maybe if Luann would spend a little more time in the comic strip named after her, she would have time for the idiots.

If only Bernice would take the hint…

If Luann wants to meet somebody she should go to the enlisted/NCO/Officers clubs at U.S. military bases. Generally, the men are in good physical condition, motivated, educated, and have fair futures ahead of them. Granted, the men might go on a long deployment but such is life.

With such a friend, who needs enemies?

Well, you could start by dressing more like Steff, or, Tiff, Luann. But is that the kind of vibe to want to project?

Yes, Luann, you are sending a strong vibe that you are as boring as all heck. What do you do all day? Work on becoming an interesting person for yourself.

Luann do not become a “Lila”?

In some respects Luann asks for what she gets. There are always these scenes where she’s on her bed (Bern is reading something) staring at the ceiling or somewhere asking “why this? why that? what’s wrong with me? why can’t I have a guy?” yada yada ….. Well…. ask and ye shall receive, but not always what you’re wanting to hear. So Bern throws something out, something to chew on, something that could probably be useful information for anyone seeking to have more friends. But with Luann, eventually it becomes like ‘ask a silly question, you get a silly answer’ (last panel).

Luann, you have to leave your bedroom to meet guys. If you are waiting for someone to pick you out of a crowd, you need to be in the crowd.

Gunther chased you for years, while YOU chased a fantasy.

Which is stupid. Any guy smart enough to know that you’re specifically looking for “something useful” would also know that they don’t know what you already have. Which means you’re only going to attract the idiots who don’t recognize your stance when they walk in.

There are only two men who the women in the strip are ever supposed to want to date: Gunther and Ox. Couldn’t we hope that someday Luann meets her male equivalent of someone like Toni (who was of course considered the ultimate prize won by her brother)?

In the last panel, Luann looks like Hawthorne from Sherman’s Lagoon. Do comics do crossover episodes?
