When my son was learning to write, he decided to write a fairy tale. He wrote, “A little girl lived with her grandfather. She went into the woods and never came back.”
Some years ago I heard a lecture on my car radio (PBS I think) from a renowned paleontologist who stated that T. Rex couldn’t be a predator because predators have strong grasping forelimbs. The first thing I thought of were the crocodilians. Now class, tell me some others…
“My theory by A. Elk. Brackets Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much, much thicker in the middle and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory,it is mine, and belongs to me and I own it, and what it is too.”
Actually, it’s hard to write shorter works because you have to be more selective with what you choose to include. Mark Twain once apologized to a friend for sending a lengthy letter, saying “If I’d had more time, I would have written a shorter one.”
However, I Calvin’s case, this doesn’t apply. He only wrote an opinion, devoid of any facts.
His paper shifts the perspective of the conflict from the mere physical to the question of the observer. Is the observer comfortable with the view being bogus?
Mainstream philosophy argues we should accept the historical view rather than taking a broader perspective. Pure genius! The mainstream is supported by stodgy academics who have never seen a Tyrannosaurus in real life, yet they argue it is because there are none. Hah! The argument bifurcates (we hoity toity academic guys like that word) into “vetted physical evidence” versus “metaphorical persuasion” as expressed in the works of Rodion Raskolnikov (look it up if not familiar with him). Now I should take my medications.
When I was a kid, I had a clever idea for a school assignment. It was where you were to write sentences using the week’s vocabulary words. My idea was to have the sentences tell the story of a guy testing his new motorized shopping cart invention at a supermarket, but it went bad for him. My teacher gave me a bad grade as I didn’t understand the assignment fully, and I likely messed on grammar. Also, the teacher didn’t like my trying to tell a story. So I know where Calvin is coming from. Sort of

Concise but said with such aplomb, very inspiring. Okay, maybe too concise but the aplomb part is still true.

Can’t wait to see Calvin’s expression when he get his grade…. plus his rationale to why when he blames it on Mom for sending him to bed on time.
