Umm…your caterpillar costume? Ew. A bit inappropriate for little kiddies…. lucky they wouldn’t think what high school kids would think. Rest assured, your skills has greatly improved since then.
OK, so they want to recall THAT little incident. LOL.
Gunthy-baby can’t help but come off as a total weirdo. He gets soaked by the sprinklers. He goes inside the library, locks the front door, leaves the side door unlocked and takes EVERYTHING off on the main library floor. Because there is zero chance that a teacher, the custodian, the librarian, or Luann would EVER come in early, right? Of course nobody would expect some doofus completely in the buff standing in the middle of the library floor!
What was he thinking?
Wouldn’t he want to head to the bathroom, wring out his regular clothing in the sink as best as he can, leave his undies on, or head into a stall and wring that out too, put the undies back on and then wear his costume? This is implying that “nothing comes between me and my Billy costume”. (snicker) Ewwwww.
I’m sure the library had a bathroom. Most people wouldn’t go out into the main room to change – where there might be unexpected staff – or security cameras – etc.
I think this week is about showing costumes from past strips and will lead up to the costumes they will be wearing Tuesday, which is Halloween. What happens when they are wearing those costumes, only Greg and Karen know at the moment.
Is this Karen’s ironic comment in Luann’s mouth at the end? But it worked when there was a bit more efforts in the setup. Now that it is indeed simple, it has become shallow.
The flashback episode continues! Yesterday, I was literally thinking about how possible it would be that my birthday would be the day we’d be graced with reminiscing on the Billy the Bookworm costume… welp, turns out, yep… it was. ಠ_ಠ
Ah well, the cartoonishy obscene, flopping worm tail between his legs and his resigned mortification is something that certainly can’t be forgotten, as much as he probably wishes it was. Sorry Gunthie-boy, it was your most iconic panel (most iconic outfit too, for that matter).
So if the Evanses are setting up Luann/Gunther I suppose they’ll tell this traumatizing story to their kids someday. Sorry, kids! I’d say they should book the therapy in advance but… we know Auntie Bernice is a therapist in training and that would only inflict more damage onto them!
“Hey, Luann, guess what? Bets and I showered together. Yes, we did! Took a shower in the same stall, at a campground, we did. I don’t think a couple has EVER done that before. The thing is, though, I put on a blindfold, and I would not touch her… and I was thinking about my mother the whole time. Just thought you should know.”
So, is this leading to the phasing out of Betts as she goes off to seek another enabler for her “Its ALLLL about MMEEEEE” lifestyle? Is this two people who grew up together and maybe finally realizing that they were actually meant for each other? Not too far fetched; my wife and I got married in 2018 … after first meeting each other in 1968. (There’s a story for ya!) But I guess time will tell here ….
Kinda like when you’re driving, and you’re stopped by a very long freight train and finally see the ending of it. Only to discover another approaching in the opposite direction…
I think taking the time for Gunther and Luann to reminisce about their adventures, looking back as adults, is good for both of them. I think it’s setting up for a possible romance from friendship for them ❤️.
Interesting that Gunther is remembering the relationship between him, Luann and his costumes now that he wants to do a couple one. His love for tailoring makes me think he should study that, but he chose engineering because he doesn’t think it could really be a job or (worst of all and very likely) because that’s what his mom wished. It’s a little sad to see this lack of confidence in their own skills in both him and Tiffany. She could be a successful Makeup Artist, but prefers to study business to imitate her father. I’m happy that at least Luann has decided to use her skills and currently is trying to become a writer.
Gunther in a big green phallic costume was, and is, beyond disgusting. It was just another example of G&K creating a really stupid storyline so they could end it with this strange image. No one believes that Greg did not intentionally draw (and know) what this bookworm costume with the big tail hanging between Gunther’s legs would suggest.
It’s fun to reminisce with Gunther and Luann about their adventures. Is he realizing he doesn’t have to go “on the road” for adventure? Now that she said they’ve kept it simple, I’m sure Gunther will come up with a doozy memory. This leaves Bets in limbo. Will that be like Rosa, Ann and Pru?
Ah, the return of Wormcock. Maybe tomorrow will feature the reappearance of ethnic stereotype Sun, as long as Greg is revisiting unfortunate design choices.

Sounds like the way Newkirk and Carter described one of their escapades to Hogan in the tunnels. “So in other words, just a normal mission?”

What will Gunther and/or Luann recall on Saturday?
1) the time Gunther figured out how to prove Tiffany was the one who made the locker-room video of Luann in her Winnie-the-Pooh undies?
2) Luann discovering that Gunther was an awesome kisser?
3) that Gunther has a girlfriend with whom he hasn’t formally broken up (current geographical separation notwithstanding)?
4) that Bernice has been intently observing (and overhearing?) their conversation?
5) …?
6) …?
…

Maybe this is how the ‘toon ends, with all this ’remember when’ stuff, like a high school reunion?

Somehow, I think Luann would remember how that incident went. ;)
I always felt the worm costume was a bit obscene looking.
I’m still wondering where this is heading. What’s the point of all the flashbacks?

I KNEW it.
You just had to bring the “worm” up didn’t you Gunny?
Note for future reference, Gun.
Just talk about the Positive things you’ve done and NEVER bring up the Negative Embarrassing stuff. “Folks” will do that for you.
If you have to “go down memory lane” bring up the time you helped Lu with her math homework, she was grateful and you kissed her.
And she _eagerly_kissed you back.

Perhaps Gunther’s “look away” means that whenever he is naked, he starts singing Dixie.
And perhaps not.
