Sophie is getting right to the heart of the matter. And the date does not matter to her heart. LOL Besides, Black Friday is all about Chri$tmas, the retail holiday. Not Thanksgiving. That bird has been plucked, stuffed, roasted and, for the most part, devoured. So I say deck those DANG halls with dollars and enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.
PSA. Georgia posted the full list of her vendors for BCN and Georgia Dunn merch on her FB page yesterday. I have found that if you use the link on the About page above the strip, all you have to do is click the x on the login box and then scroll her postings. The page is public so you should not need to be a member.
She also mentioned how much everyone wants a new calendar and says if she can do it before the second week of December, she will. But she has a lot to deal with including another book!
In “A Very Scalzi Christmas” there is a short story about a very bitter month of November kvetching about being short-changed by people rushing on to do their Christmas decorating.
My mother died suddenly, in 1987. I buried her on Christmas Eve morning that year. My oldest had just turned one, my husband had just taken a new job that he needed time off from, and my father fell apart. For quite some years, I did Christmas for my girls, but my heart wasn’t in it. Eventually, it got better until I started to appreciate and enjoy it again. Now, we start putting the lights up a week before Thanksgiving and will put the tree up this weekend. We have a local radio station, WNIC, that broadcasts Christmas music year round on iHeart radio and I’ll listen to that during the year when I need a pick me up. It’s the music most of all, but the lights too that make me happy. It’s all relative, I guess.
I can’t stop thinking of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and what it would be like with cats in the roles. I can picture Tommy as Mr, Fezziwig, and Sophie as Belle (breaking off her engagement to Scrooge). Puck would make for a fine Cratchit, and Iggy would be the ideal Tiny Tim, but … I REALLY want Ora Zella for that role! She’d be an agent of chaos that Dickens never realized he needed: a Tiny Tortie Tim breaking ranks, who takes that crutch and wallops Scrooge senseless, you know, to soften him up before the three spirits get a chance to work him over …
Sophititi: I was so glad to find found objects at the Dark Friday marketplace yesterday.
Adobe Style: Wonder how Dark Friday got its name.
Maat-Tilda: With all the people there, it’s hard to see the light of day.
Soph: I could do with a few more jewels. I used up my supply making the Mole War Tapestry.
Tillie: Didn’t they have any at the marketplace?
Soph: Some. But after using Fe-Anaro’s fine jewels, I kinda got spoiled.
Newcomer: Perhaps I can be of help.
Dobes (Adobe Style’s Nickname) Mag-Lor! What brings you to Egypt?
Mag-Lor: I’m here to pick up the scrolls Elvis-Anum has been transcribing from Tengwar script, and bringing some more to transcribe. My Father sends these jewels as a gift.
Tillie: And how is your father and your brothers?
Mag-Lor: They are all well. My Father is busy creating all sorts of new projects, including more jewels. We are all forever grateful for restoring our greatest treasure, the Silmarils.
Soph: I know Elvis will be glad to see you. But first, tea and scones!
I guess I should haul out my Christmas stuff and look it over and provide entertainment for the clowder. Smudge is too dignified to participate (think a black Elvis), but Mouse, Imp and Thor will have a field day.
I’m not a Christmasy sort of person, but Albert’s Man is, so I indulge him. However, I do love certain things about this time of year: making a fancy Christmas Eve dinner for friends, baking cookies to gift, and all the lights. The lights in the darkness cheers me so much.
Sophie, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the “Christmas Season” doesn’t start until December 25th and runs through January 6th. Leave it to big business to turn it into another commercial extravaganza.
Well, Thanksgiving is over. I’ve tried very hard to count my blessings, while stuffing myself with good food to try to bring back the spirits of past holidays. Now on to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and any other seasonal holidays I might be unaware of. I hope we can all manage to have the best Orb holiday season ever—bring on the egg nog and catnip!
I love Christmas and Christmas songs and Christmas decorations!!!!!!
When I was a kid, the Christmas tree went up right after Thanksgiving. A fresh-cut tree. I don’t know how it made it through to January 1.
I did a bit of a trial run for Thanksgiving, putting up my “Three Wise Women” hanging on my door for a day just to see if it would stay. It was just draped over the knocker, not fastened. I’ll add a garland or wreath when I put it back up.
I’m loving, SO much, Georgia’s watercolors yesterday and today. The effect of glowing lights is just wonderful! And the combo of multi-colored lights, gold stars & tinsel boa, and red & green pompons couldn’t be more perfect. [sighs contentedly]

Why, Lupin, haven’t you heard of the ‘thirty days of Christmas’? It’s right up there with the ninety days of Easter (eggs).

Written by Jerry Herman: We Need a Little Christmas
Knock down the boxes
Use the technique devised by Lupin every year
Grab decorations…Put up the garlands, hang up the stockings because Sophie made it clear now!
That we need a little Christmas!
Right this very minute!
Find the tiny box and
Take a nap right in it
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute
Some are still in a Thanksgiving coma,
But let’s decorate before it’s over!
Find those found objects!
Build Christmas sculptures with the greatest of aplomb!
Bring out the lights now
It’s time we basked in the glow of the Tommy Baum now!
For I’m happy for the season
Happy for all my friends
I don’t need a reason
Hope the feeling won’t end
And I wish the best of Seasons
Unto all my Orb Friends
We need a little Christmas now!

House looks pretty
Oh, so pretty
It looks pretty, one kitty made it bright
And I pity
Any heart that’s not festive tonight
Sophie’s charming
Oh, so charming
She’s disarming with charm that’s unreal
And so clever
With talent and artistic zeal
See the pretty stringed pom poms hanging there?
How attractive can decorations be?
Such pretty lights
Such pretty stars
Such pretty orbs
How impressed is Thomas!
It’s all stunning
And entrancing
Makes Tommy feel like dancing for joy
For he’s loved
We all know he’s a wonderful boy!
And this is the Sophie we know:
Modest and pure
Polite and refined
Well-bred and mature
With Christmas in her heart, warm times
