Iggy getting in on the fantastic hat action. What a sweet lil Guy he is. And he’s Double Fanging us! Apologies if that non-word is slang for something naughty.
Things could be worse! There’s a small business whose entire ethos is based on this principle: no matter how bad your day is, it could be a lot worse. One of my favorite mugs from Calamityware depicts a small town overrun by Sasquatch, giant frog, pirates, cephalopod, devil blob, voracious sea monster, UFOs, aggressive pterodactyls, rambunctious robots, and last-but-not-least a zombie poodle. The only it needs to truly make it complete is a short, hairy, curmudgeonly Australian professor of philosophy grumbling about impending doom at the bottom of the mug. Other than that, it’s a pretty nifty vessel for morning coffee.
When I was little, up until the summer when I was 7, we lived in a house that had a wood stove. I always loved when the power went out. With the wood stove, it was plenty warm, and I loved the candlelight.
I had a wonderful fuzzy blankie that I had on the floor in front of the doorwall by my little kitchen table where husband has breakfast. Shorty and Beau would both lay on it when the sun was full (south facing doorwall) and soak up the sun. Christmas Eve, I put the appetizers there and I had my three pot little crock pot thingy sitting there with dips in it. Went to put the lid on and my hand still doesn’t work from my accident, couldn’t hold on to the lid, it started to slip, tried to grab it twice, missed and over the edge it went. It shattered and I mean shattered. Tempered glass. The shards were everywhere and all over that blankie. I had to get leather gloves to clean it up and a couple shards still went through the gloves. I had to throw the blankie out and for the past three days, poor Shorty has been meowing in front of the doorwall, looking for it. I don’t know if I can find another like it. It was the softest thing she ever had. Funny how attached they get to things.
Wow, who is angrier in panel 1 – Lupin or Goldie. I am surprised that OZ says she’s only “mildly inconvenienced” being that a coat, gloves and hat would seem to slow her down.
Our Meezer likes it much hotter than our other kitties. He can’t handle the cold at all. I’m thinking it’s a Siamese thing.
I pray every day – literally, not a rhetorical statement – that our power stays on in the cold. Last year when the city power grid went down on Christmas Eve during single digit temperatures it was Not Okay. We were losing ten degrees an hour with everyone sealed off in a single room. No fire. Poor insulation. Houses here are not made for cold weather. By the time we gave up and risked driving on glare ice with everyone we loved piled in one vehicle to a place with heat, we could see our breath, it was 35 degrees in the warmest room of the house with two cats and two people under blankets, and my chest hurt from the stress of trying to sleep in the cold. I was terrified my newly acquired stray cat, who was due “around Christmas” would give birth and the kitten would die in the cold. Our neighbors were trying to stay warm in their car with their children, running the car for a little bit at a time to save gas, because the car was warmer than the house. It’s a danged miracle more people didn’t die here. I am still mentally not okay from that happening.
We made it through the ice in a four wheeler, though many we passed ended up in ditches. Ended up sleeping in front of the gas fireplace at my mom’s house in the country until the power came on. And Marzipan didn’t have her kitten until Jan 9th. But I can’t say it was okay because we spent Christmas trying to recover emotionally from being so afraid and physically from being so chilled.
I wish we had a place to put a generator. We can’t put on inside the fence because of the windows and outside the fence it would be stolen immediately.
After Winter Storm Ember hits the eastern US for the next couple of days, Winter Storm Finn will sweep from the lower Rockies all the way to the Northeast. Meteorologists are calling it a kitchen sink storm because it will include ice, snow, wind, heavy rain w/ flooding, severe storms, and even possible tornadoes. Everything but the kitchen sink.
Ahh! Papa’s tumultuous Tortie wants daddy to hold her.
and what does baby really want
to bring reach and space into her circle of rogue, rowdy, rabble rousing chaos. With her cute little Cossack fur topped hat, she is the perfect *agent provocateur* , a feline femme fatale to be sure.
(Yes, I am sure it is not a Ushanka or shapka Hat -no flaps)
And that folks is what happens when cats get the zoomies when they are trying to report the news. Exaggeration upon exaggeration only to be retracted at a later, saner date.
OT: Due to the extreme cuteness of this comic Kitty Katz has melted into a pile of goo once again. Tune in tomorrow when she reconstitutes in the cold.

Yeah, Ora Zella being mildly inconvenienced, and with her PAPA, is the most adorable thing in the world right now!

I know the power is out, but is there any way we can check on the others in the BPH? Maybe the Robber Mice can do some investigating.

Cars love fuzzy things. We have fuzzy blankets, throws, a bathrobe, and even sheets (flannel and fleece sets). A couple of cat beds are fuzzy as well.
Achilles loves the leftover milk from my morning cereal. Go figure.
