I knew one fellow who “lived” for 5 years “cared for” (not by family) in a condition in which he would have died of embarrassment… if only he could. A proud man, he couldn’t get from his bed to the toilet without assistance. And he could hear and understand, but was totally unable to speak.
I recall a chat with a Nursing home / Care Center manager about this. She said they would refer to calling the Celestial Taxi instead of an ambulance/mortuary when a resident passed. A bit less morbid I guess.
Watching my mother and mother-in-law go into their 80s and 90s. One is into serious dementia, ahs suffered a number of strokes but doesn’t remember any of it. The other one has been having physical isssues for years and is now having memory and mental issues also. I’m in my early 70s, and don’t want to go there. There’s a lot positive to be said about increased longevity, but only if it the qualituy of life is good.
Actually the cartoon represents the fact that the writers over time have gone to sleep. ID used to be funny but that past six months or so they’ve missed more then they hit. Maybe the team decided its okay to pick on old people, anyone else would raise too much heck with them. Goodbye Wiz, I’m retiring you.
My best friend from school just joined the elite 80s club in early February, and is still well, retired with his wife (and nearby 2 daughters) in a very nice home in Hobart, Tasmania. If I make it, I have to wait until the same time next year to join.

That’s not death. Death is a sickle-wielding wolf. He said it himself.
I’m Death. Straight up.

Do you mind, Wiz? The Reaper and Morpheus are in a conference call. These eternal beings take a bit.

Death takes a holiday. Somebody should write a book. Actually, it was an Italian play that was made into a movie in 1934.
