I remember the sisterhood, when Women’s Liberation was in full swing some years ago, carried on about how ‘male’ history is .. One of the arguments which seemed to gain traction was that the word was HIStory but nowhere could you find the word HERstory – in other words, the female activities in establishing and maintaining the (sorry) history of our great nation was completely male-oriented. I guess that’s true enough, but lately I find that the supportive and downright leadership of the early female pioneers, and later women’s lives, are gaining traction in the history of Australia. And I’m all for it.
In Manhattan, NY we have a lot of streets with female first names [Ann, Catherine, Jane] but not so many boy’s first names. I was taught that the men would have their last names on the streets, and then put their wives/daughters’ names on the smaller streets.
“A French word meaning “wooded,” Boise came into use early in the nineteenth century among French-Canadian fur hunters as a name for the Boise River. French trappers who started to use the name Boise apparently were translating an earlier English designation for the stream."
Not only is there gender inequality in geography, but also in physics.
A woman’s breasts contains a high amount of fat. Fat floats. So women have natural life preservers. In fact, in prior days, a life preserver was also called a “Mae West” in honor of the very buxom actress of the era.
So the concept of flotation should not be called buoyancy; it should be called girlancy.
I have often wondered what the world would would be like if Dane and Calvin got together and joined forces. The comments on their activities between Hobbes and Lucy would be priceless.
Given that Boise is a name of French origin, she is REALLY stretching. What’s worse: a solution searching for a problem; or someone searching for problem just to have one.
Per her logic, a male gender bias should mean that she shouldn’t do homework. However, since there really is a female gender bias, as posters are showing, should she be doing more homework?

DuBois, Pennsylvania has entered the conversation. It’s pronounced “do boys.” There is also Boyertown on the other end of the Commonwealth.

So if I name something after something else, I am making fun of it, or denigrating it, not celebrating or honoring it, or identifying with it?

Oh yeah? How come it’s “America” instead of “Amerigo”? Because they had to feminize it, that’s why!

Why they do that? Squaws were here before townspeople. I am told they also smelled better (cleaner) than the white people.
