Years ago, my Chevy pickup had a manual transmission in it. I parked it in a spot, shut off the ignition, got out and closed the door. I turned my head a couple seconds later, after taking a few steps, and saw my truck rolling backwards out the parking spot. Luckily I ran back, got in the truck and hit the brakes, before it hit someone or something. I guess the stick did not fully shift into a gear to lock it in place.

And before you all say, “Why didn’t you use the emergency brake to prevent this?”, the E. Brake wasn’t working in the first place. At the time, the whole cable was froze up and I didn’t have the money to get that fixed yet. I no longer have that truck and moved on to bigger better things.

Bill, can’t you draw the underside of a car? Unless that one has no motor. carberatour, etc.

$75 is a lot of money when you’re 6 years old.

In all the years of “Calvin and Hobbes”, is this the worst thing Calvin ever did?

At least Hobbes checked for traffic before they ran into the road.

I’m not sure how much it was worth before, but now $75 is probably about right.

I notice Hobbs is watching out for Calvin by checking for traffic as they cross the road.

That’s how much my first car cost. That was in 1978. It lasted me 3 months of very heavy usage, much longer than I expected.

Not Calvin’s fault. Mother’s Fault. She should have set the parking brake when she parked or bad brakes. Calvin just prevented a possibly worse accident without realizing it. May Calvin is becoming ForeShadow Man.

What’s he worried about? All he has to do is not admit he was messing around in the car in the first place. Thats what I did when I was 8. My Dad never figured out it was me that let the car roll into the street. lol….

The towing might be $75.

Good thing Dad didn’t opt for the power windows. Could’ve pushed it up to $100.

Years ago I forget to set the parking brake on my truck while I was at work.

Someone came up to me and asked, “Don’t you own a black Toyota?”

“Um, yes, why?”

“Because it’s in the ditch, out behind the parking lot.”

It took a quick jerk from a tow truck to get it out, no worries. And I never forgot to set the parking break ever again.

How in the world did Calvin (and Hobbes, lol) manage to push a car? I can’t believe it was parked in neutral!

According to Consumer Guide (dot) com, the average new car in 1989 cost about $12,000, and the cheapest was a Yugo for $4,349 plus $999 for air conditioning and AM/FM stereo.

Let’s start rehearsing. There were these two guys in ski masks pushing it out of the driveway. We chased them off, but they didn’t set the brake, and… well there you are. I told Hobbes not to eat them. They looked like they hadn’t bathed. But we’re still heroes, right?

This clearly demonstrates that, whatever powers Stupendous Man (alter ego of mild-mannered Calvin) may possess, precognition is certainly not one of them.

“Don’t worry, Calvin. The car landed on the thieves who broke into your house last night.”

I’ve been waiting to comment on this episode in that did it not appear a few years back? Thought sure I’d seen it before?

One obviously can’t tell much from the small part that we see but it doesn’t look like the car is too badly damaged. Having it towed out of the ditch will be costly, of course, and he’s certainly going to be in big trouble for pushing it out of the garage and across the street, but it doesn’t seem to be totaled or anything. So there’s that.

There is that moment after an accident that you wish you could reverse time and stop what just happened.

I’d add a couple of zeroes before the decimal point there Hobbs.

And how did the rear of the car get twisted 90 degrees with respect to the front?

75$ sounds about right for it, now.

I bet at least a year’s allowance plus the contents of all greeting cards from grandma,

at last Calvin will go to jail where he belongs!
