Free food is an incentive to me. I once approached the only other person in a dress shop who had a Y chromosome and asked him, “My wife is bribing me with lunch. What’s your story?” Eh, it started a conversation and the time was spent more pleasantly.

Gotta love Hobbes’ expression in the next-to-last panel. Purely casual, just waiting for Cal to strike the bait. And naturally, the whole thing is Cal’s way of changing his mind about the cookie party.

I think this may be the time Susie learns that men will think and decide things with their stomach.

Probably won’t be able to count the number of women who will dump Calvin if he ever grows up.

Whatever, Calvin is back with his stuffed toy and both the kids can make merry by playing together.

What kind of lunatic gives you a formal invitation to a party that’s happening in 10 minutes?

When there aren’t enough kids in a neighborhood.

I don’t blame Calvin for not wanting to go. Look, there aren’t even any cookies on the table.

Pity there is not another female in the neighborhood for Susie to be friends with. It is painful to watch Calvin be such a jerk to her.

Mr. Bun went on to become the drummer in Cheap Trick.

This is a popular strip so this would be a good place to ask : Has anyone else noticed that the GoComics site has been very slow in the past few months? I find that as I go from one favorite to the next, it takes forever for the comic to load.

Tell Calvin to take a hike, but leave the tiger.

I really want to see a “fast forward” strip with Calvin and Susie as married adults with kids. There’s been a few fan fiction stories out there, but a series would be great.

When you consider all the forest that Calvin hikes, these two must be the last two kids that get off the bus stop in the middle of nowhere.

Cookies sound good to me. Especially peanut butter cookies. Mmm…

Sometimes the way he abuses Susie for no reason is just heartbreaking.

It’s hard to tell… Is Hobbes dressed up with a tie in the last panel? I wonder if Susie knows Alice and Polyfil from Cul de Sac? Golly, the two of them would have Calvin’s number! ;)

I guess the cookies are imaginary too? ;-)

Hey….anything for my friend!!!!!

this strip works on so many levels. We see Calvin complaining about “girls and dumb toy animals” – as Hobbes reverts to his inanimate state. We also see Susie, who often states how little she cares about Calvin especially after he insults her, actually feeling sad about Calvin’s rejections. And finally, there’s Hobbes who often acts as Calvin’s conscience prodding him to do the right thing – even if it is in the guise of getting free cookies.

For as badly as Calvin treats her, he should be grateful that she would include him in a cookie and milk party. There must not be any girls her age in the neighborhood. I know how that is. I didn’t have any girls to play with in my neighborhood either. We lived on the wrong side of the tracks.

Leave it to Hobbes, always thinking through his stomach.
