When I was working, young kids would ask my age. After I told them they would say wow you’re old. My answer would be, if you’re lucky you might live this long.
Nature’s laws dictate that anything that’s born will die. It would have been more useful if Opal had told Nelson that aging is a blessing and that her wish was that he would grow to be as old as she is.
My mom would not ever tell me her age. I am the curious type. When was about 7, I asked her how long she had been married. I asked her how old she was when she got married. I added them and told her how old she was. She was furious – with herself, I guess. I did nothing wrong.
I will be 52 in 1 1/2 months, the same age my sister was when she passed away in November 2023, Mom will be 74 a week before me and Dad will be 73 in 2 weeks. We are all feeling our age, actually I feel their age more than my age.

Our youngest asked me how old I was – for the umpteenth time – so I told her I was born in 1942. “How old does that make me?”
“Nineteen forty TWO?”
Well, I’m old, but not as bad as all that.
And then she leaned over and whispered to her sister, “What year did Columbus discover America?”

My grandma was asked this question by me and I got the answer that she was 101! Being only 10 at the time, I actually believed her!

Ha! At a certain age perhaps we should just count every decade. That would make Opal 7 and 1/2 ish.
