There’s so much truth to this. Here it’s 45 minutes or 8 hours. So I guess we’re lucky? Let’s hope Gutter and the crew have the very best of luck and bring our girl home soon!
Oh, SO true, Burt, yes!! AND water. I hate it when they cut off the water at our apartment. Back to Victorian times for us for either a few hours or days! Sure miss the Victorian bowl and ewer I left in England. Would really come in handy during those times.
I have the misfortune of being at the very end of a particular section of the electrical grid that will lose power if a squirrel experiences flatulence within ten feet of a power line. It can be frustrating to be without power while I’m looking down at the end of the street where everyone still has it.
Sophititi: I would like to do a tapestry for my descendant. Hopefully, the scrolls from the Library at Meowlexandria contain some information about what happened.
Beaver Lee Cleary: The 900s contain loads of information. We should keep looking.
Iggy: Jules just left for his annual July excursion. We can find out more from him when he gets back.
Beatrixia: I found something! It appears that year Independence Day and the Fourth of July fell on the same day. They had fireworks to celebrate.
Violet-Ifa: It’s a good thing Ora Z wasn’t there.
Bea: Anyway, here’s a transcript of what the Misguided People said:
Misguided Woman:The lights have all gone out! We have to make sure our cat is safe!
Husband:Yes, dear.
MW:And there’s a chickadee cutting a hole in our screen!
Husband:Uh-huh.
MWNot to mention a raccoon with a grappling hook and several mice with backpacks.
Husband:Don’t worry. They’re probably on a camping trip or something
“It takes either 10 minutes or 4 days to restore power.”
Again, Georgia’s Rhode Island heritage shines through. LOL.
Many moons ago I was visiting my childhood friend in Colorado (these trips to see her were pretty much the reason I moved to Colorado when I was 19) and one night the power went out. Her father came into the guest room with a flashlight, woke me up, handed me the flashlight, and was in the middle of explaining how the power was out but it shouldn’t be out for long and here’s a flashlight, etc. He was a bit puzzled by how blasé I was about it.
We have power but down the street didn’t for several hours. Some dumb@$$ burnt his house down with illegal fireworks last night. It was a very entertaining show watching the fire department at work. We all figure to have a quiet New Year this year, as this is the same dumb@$$ that likes to shoot off illegal fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
If it is anything like the last moron from 5 years ago, it will be a while before the house is rebuilt. Insurance companies are reluctant to pay claims when the damage is caused by illegal activity. It was 18 months before the last one was able to move back into their house.
No one has said yet that this is going a little too smoothly… I feel like we are sneaking around in a darkened house (not our own) with our fingers on the dial of a safe (also not our own) and slowly… the theme from Jaws starts to build. In other words, I have a bad feeling things are going to go sideways.
I’m impressed: there was a whole lot less noise and fuss last night! I don’t think the cats were bothered by the neighbors setting off fireworks, and I slept through what noise there was.
As an added bonus, there were no lost kitties in my yard this morning! Yay!
Those of us in areas prone to outages due to storms get much faster service than 4 days unless it is an apocalypse event like a major ice storm or a hurricane that can take down the power to most of the state.
OT: but worth it. I just heard a noise outside. I look out the window? Two little, I mean little, fawns chasing each other through my yard! They were coming and going and going and coming. And then they were gone! LOL I didn’t see the Mama, but know she’s close by. Such a treat!
I had to get my foot rewrapped today. My doctor wasn’t there so I saw his very nice colleague. When I told him I had to be able to walk on it so I could take care of Foxy we started talking cats and he has one also, so I told him about BCN.
Ten minutes or four days eh? How about 16 days (minimum) to restore internet? I’ll never know how long it really took them, because we have changed providers now.

Does anyone understand what Chatter is being asked to do? I’m a tad confused.

With their state of the art security system, I would expect them to have a back up generator, which would really mess up the rescue.

Years ago, I worked in a refurbished old mill building. We would lose power about once a month. Almost always for 1 hour.

Are there any linespersons, or persons of line, or whatever they are called in our enlightened age, to explain whether Burt is right and if so why?
