Aside from different perspectives, you increase quality by increasing your talent pool. If you don’t hire women and I do, I have twice as many prospective employees to choose from.
Too many have a zero sum philosophy. Thinking that if others “gain”, it must mean they’ve “lost”. Mostly, they ignore any evidence that somehow they’ve benefited from others’ intercessions and have “pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps”. I will never understand that paradigm.
What is the race of the current president, what race is the senate majority leader, attorney General, head of homeland security? I could go on, but you would never get the point.
Harris has had seven years as San Francisco’s District Attorney, six years as California’s Attorney General, four years as California’s junior Senator, and now 3.5 years as Vice-President. All those are elective offices. That’s a total of 20.5 years experience in electoral politics, a whole generation.
In contrast, trump’s sole experience was four disastrous years as president, the only political office he’s ever both run for and held. And GOP Vice-Presidential candidate vance has had a grand total of less than seventeen months in public office, as Ohio’s junior senator. They are the true DEI hires — Deplorable Egotistical Ignorant
Isn’t this the first time we’ve seen these two together in a while? It’s so interesting to watch them age. Originally Mike was what, ten years older than Kim?
In response to all the erudite commenters with their deep insights into the American political landscape – “Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah. I know you are, but what am I.”
Memories, this is still the little Kimmie, the Vietnamese refugee, who was at sometime half his age. Dang, I’m sentimental about fictional people. Kudos to the artist.
Have we forgotten about the ban on comments on the political comics page? I predict that GC will shut down comments on this side of the fence if we don’t tone it down a bit.
Major orchestras used to hold auditions for new players in which the applicants would come out on stage and demonstrate their proficiency with their chosen instruments, while the orchestra’s executives listened keenly for the best audio quality. Using this approach, it turned out that the “best” players were almost all mature white men.
Then they went to so-called “blind” auditions, in which the applicants performed behind a screen, out of sight of the listeners, and lo and behold suddenly a substantial portion of the “best” players turned out to be non-white, non-male, and non-American. And some of them were quite young.
Bear in mind that these executives were not consciously biased. They truly wanted the best possible players for their orchestras. But their idea of “best” — from among an array of superbly talented applicants — was unavoidably subjective, and their lifetimes of experience in such matters had largely involved mature white men.
I think I’m going to print this out and erase Kim’s last line. All the way up to “Not at all.” perfectly describes the person who runs my department, who is currently trying to drive out the women on our team.
As someone who toiled in the corporate vineyards for four decades before I retired 11 years ago, I can attest to the fact that the benefits of diverse teams were well understood and widely promoted. Monocultures are a weakness in both biology and business.

You still have to hire the right female. There still has to males or there would be no perspective to be had. Kim did say so many, not all.
