You’re overthinking this girls. The girl on the romance novel cover only had a basket with flowers. You only need to bring a basket and pick up flowers. Let the guys see you and fall in love.

I know they have coolers with wheels on them. Wouldn’t need deoderant. lol ( I hate to admit, I like Bernice’s “old lady” outfit. Not sure about the hat though.)

Until today, I’ve not bothered to scrutinize too closely the uncomfortable practical details of L&B’s harmless entertaining little romantic fantasy in the warm summer outdoors of a public park. Yesterday and today were shown the inconveniences of lugging heavy picnic goods in uncomfortably warm weather. But more to be recognized soon is that, while the park is not completely bereft of other people, neither does it much resemble the romantic image of a time when much of society spent its time together in such places and young folks of L&B’s age could see and be seen by each other as introduction to additional social activities. Hence the lack of that sort of interaction nowadays, perhaps a century or more later than the romantic fantasies were penned, cannot avoid engendering disappointments unless it is sufficient to focus one’s enjoyment merely on a picnic , a short stroll, the fine weather, and perhaps a congenial conversation with a friend.

Sweat aside, Luann seems to having fun and be happy. Let’s hope that Bernice can have fun too and that all the negative predictions she did turn out to be unfounded. The park on such a beautiful day will be full of young people. Aside to the predictable Nil and Jack they could meet: Gunther and Bets out for a walk, Knute with Crystal under a parasol, Dez with a group of university friends who know Bernice. The only thing that saddens me is that they seem to have left Puddles at home.

Bernice is SO snarky, that she would Phooooo k up a wet dream.

Deodorant will only attract insects. Bugs like sweet fragrances.

I can smell them both from here :-P

Off to a beer fest today. Predicted temperature 10F higher than yesterday or Sunday. Go figure.

Makes you wonder how all those Victorians got on in the hot summers, what with their wool suits and their celluloid collars!

The mascara runneth over. Let the sweat begin. Pretty certain English Summers a lot cooler than American.

So now they’re going to sit under a tree reading their books and waiting for…what? I don’t think they would be approached in the real world, as people usually respect others’ privacy, but who knows? It could happen. Romance could walk up and say something like “You and me babe, how about it?”

Don’t take this the wrong way, but the vibe they’re giving off is not giving off the “romance” vibe. Dudes are likely to think they are already in a relationship…

I looked at the forecast for San Diego, CA, where Luann is probably located. The highs are around 78 and the lows around 65. Sounds very pleasant for summer.

They need a couple guys for romance to begin. Strangers will probably not approach them at the park.

I find this arc very relatable. So many times we have an idea or a dream of how something will work out but then the reality isn’t the same.

So what are these two going to do? They aren’t dressed for park activities, hiking or sports; they’ll sit under a tree and eat the snacks that they brought making eyes at passers by.

The gals forgot one important thing. Lily was on her way to meet Lance, her true love. Neither of them has a true love yet. I guess they are hoping to meet someone in the park.

The “romance novel” cover models pose in air conditioned, bug free studios. Our two copycats are trying to look cute in seeming high temperatures, and, humidity. By the any cute guys show up (if they do,) Bernice will be well past wilted, and, Luann on her way to join her.
