I had a feeling about this. But isn’t Sophie’s Woman just the best? So understanding. And Sophie even feels for the woman. I don’t know if I could be that forgiving and understanding.
First time commenting here, been following for a couple of years. I feel so relieved that Sophie is back with her Woman, and that the Tidy Woman can be redeemed by finding herself a Tidy Cat, lol.
she needs counseling about how to treat a pet as well as help choosing one. also some psychiatric analysis would be a good idea too. and get the indifferent TM in on the process, he should be sharing the blame and figuring out how to be an involved husband, not some lout that just mumbles mmmm hmmmmmmm.
A pet that just needs to be looked at? Maybe a fish? Sophie’s Woman has a generous heart. I hope the adoption comes with some lessons on what animals truly need.
In the magical world of BCN, the perfect shelter pet(s) will know exactly what to do to provide the proper “pusscotherapy” or work doggedly to fix whatever ails these folks.
Most interesting, but I’m not convinced this arc is over yet. We still have to get Sophie and Gutter connected in a less stressful situation. And I can see a lot of comedic gold in the two of them getting to now each other better.
Of course Kidnapper Woman is lonely, with Kidnapper Man in the other room muttering Mmmm hmmm. This has turned out to be a win-win-win-win situation. Sophie is rescued; Gutter has escaped; Kidnapper Woman can legitimately adopt a cat who truly needs a home who will fill in the gap left by Kidnapper Man.
I was hoping this would happen. This woman still done messed up but the grief thing helps. I’m mostly just happy this was wrapped up fast. I love this storyline but Sophie’s been through enough.
To everyone here who saw all of this coming, congratulations!! I love a happy ending. Here in the world of BCN especially, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Yes, the portrait was of her late lamented pet and that explains her motivation. Our world needs more forgiveness and less vengeance. Yes, she made a lot of mistakes but let’s give her a second chance and a bit of guidance. Let us all be like Tommy and Sophie’s Woman
tidy woman totally ignored Sophie’s pain and suffering, blocked her hiding places, kept her in a cage, continued to try to keep her hidden when it became obvious that she belonged with the “animal control” person. Do not afflict another innocent cat or dog with this woman. She is NOT ready to adopt a new pet.
Oh, I also just noticed the paw shaped mark, on the left of Tidy Woman’s shirt! Sophie glitterally has left a mark, on her heart! (Groans to the left, tomatoes, to the right…)
I hope we’re not finished yet. I want to see Gutter and the mice get credit for their efforts, see what happens to Lil Starfish (hoping Gutter gets to rescue her for Sophie), see a HUGE celebration at the BPH, and even see TW get a new appropriate pet!
I mean, we just lost our beloved rescue poodle to old age and I’m not going out to steal other people’s obviously cared-for pets. (And we didn’t steal him either, no matter what his former negligent owners say. We told him we’d take him to the shelter the next time we saw him outside without any tags and that’s exactly what we did. The shelter was not happy about his condition either. We had to adopt him on a waiver because he was so underweight.)
I just want to point out something here. While this story line has really peaked my anxiety (and still is because…Gutter!) a lot of people are forgetting something. We’re reading this behind the fourth wall. People keep accusing TW, who I admittedly don’t like so please don’t attack me, of stealing Sophie from her own front yard, and she did, BUT, she didn’t know it was Sophie’s own front yard! Only we, watching everything unfold through the fourth wall, know it was Sophie’s front yard! I’ve a lot of cats that have spent time in my front yard, but they’re not my cats, so there’s that. And yes, what she did was completely wrong! She should have gone knocking on doors to find out if Sophie was someone’s cat before jumping in the car and just leaving. There’s no real excuse for that. But grief does terrible things to us all and maybe she lost her mind. Who knows? I have a feeling even though her husband is there, she’s all alone in that big house. Clearly, her husband just humors her and pretty much ignores her so maybe the loss of her doggo was a triple blow to her heart. Maybe he was her only friend. But I cannot imagine Sophie’s woman NOT giving TW lessons in cat care or any pet care before letting her leave with a pet! And Sir What’s His Name looks too darned happy in that painting to have been too mistreated, so there’s that as well. Now, we need to get to Gutter and find out the rest of the story!
Me not theenks it wise to invites steenky abducting aliens to animal shelters. Steenky alien may abducts em all and then eats them. Just looks at steenky alien’s cat was named after food. Pomegranates is food. Obviously steenky alien was eats pomegranate.
I wholeheartedly agree with what Aspen_Bell and Tigrisan (above) have said. As Sophie’s Woman says, “Grief is weird.” I’ve known people who have been grieving and done things seriously out of character for them, and not even remembered their actions or words afterwards. Grief is someone we will will all get to know in our lives; a little compassion goes a long way. TW may have thrown herself into changing and tidying her entire house in order to cope with losing Lord P. (Perhaps, before, it was a messy haven of doggy happiness and companionship.) And maybe TM is at a loss how to help her feel better, and has been told to leave her alone so many times that now, he is reduced to MmmHmm. I would like to get to know more of her; hope there’s more to this relationship between her and Sophie’s Woman.
You can understand something without agreeing to it. That concept is often lost these days in other forums, where people refuse to try to empathize. That’s why I like BCN. Readers can disagree without the enmity.
Considering the Tidy Woman’s situation, it’s clear she had a deep love for her dog, Lord Pomegranate, whom she lost. Her husband’s demeanor, or lack thereof, towards her loss is indeed disheartening. A potted plant would seem a warmer companion than he appears to be.
Now, I understand why she took Sophie. I don’t agree with her actions, but I understand them. It was an attempt to mollify her anguish. She obviously does not understand cats, though, and should seek a shelter dog as a companion. I bet Sophie’s woman will even help her find the right dog.
This is a good collection of people, the Orb. Their first instinct is to help rather than chastise. Guided by Georgia’s art, we are allowed to process our feelings as the story unfolds. I truly liked Sophie’s summer adventure.
Uh, oh. Mittens was walking by while I was reading today’s strip, and she saw the picture of Lord Pomegranate. She now wants a similar painting of herself. Nothing too grand, she meowed—48"x 60" oil on canvas should suffice, with a gilded gold frame. Of course, you all will be invited to the unveiling: Black Tie and evening wear. Robin will do a reading before the unveiling, and Scaeva will do a live demonstration of 12th-century battle technique in the Jousting Arena. Dancing to follow in the Grand Ballroom.
Kudos to Sophie’s woman – she turns her anger around to help TW. Though I do agree with other comments that TW needs some lessons on cat care (including “lost” cats you find – too afraid to get Sophie microchipped? Did she not think that would happen at a show?), on the fence about counseling.
UGH. That’s not an apology, it is a NON-APOLOGY. The Tidy Woman hasn’t acknowledged any wrong doing. She only offered an excuse to justify her actions. I understand grieving over a lost furry family member. We’ve all experienced this, but we don’t go around STEALING other people’s cats dogs hamsters iguanas or ponies. And this doesn’t justify her other awful choices. I will do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I will do my best to be empathetic (I often fail, but I will keep trying), but for me a non-apology is another red flag. (I learned this the hard way with my in-laws.) Hard NOPE!
Sophie’s Woman is being very compassionate and forgiving even though TW really deserves to have the Riot Act read to her. But being understanding, and encouraging TW to adopt a pet the proper way, will make two lives better and the world will be a happier place.
Hopefully the story will continue next week at the shelter where Sophie’s Woman can share appropriate advice (about checking for microchips, getting a vet checkup right away, etc.) to TW and the general audience. And we can see TW meet someone who needs her, hopefully a small dog rather than a cat as she seems better equipped to understand their needs as the former parent of a well-loved small dog.
This does seem rather abrupt to me. I also think people should be held accountable for their actions, regardless of the cause. I’d like to see TW acknowledge her mistakes, and even have a “What was I thinking?” moment. That would expunge her guilt, and help her grief, too.
I thought yesterday that Sophie’s Woman might offer something like that. Good on her for being understanding in the end. Not everyone could do that, maybe I could be as understanding, but not right away. Maybe now Tidy Woman can get a better understanding on how to truly care for a pet companion?
Like with Lupin I would guess at some point if we ever see the Tidy couple and their house again there will be no trace of any mess not even a speck of glitter.
Monday? Some Mondays out maybe. This house is still going to be a glitter sinkhole a couple of days later, and remember it’s still the 4th of July in BCN – a holiday weekend.
You know what amazes me? Tidy Man has apparently slept through this entire adventure. Tidy Woman’s gonna have some serious ‘splainin’ to do when he wakes up!
This is an awesome outcome! Win Win for both and TW has to clean up for her lack of finding Sophie’s true owner. Hopefully, she will learn how to truly care for kitties from Sophie’s woman so she can be a better pet owner for the next Priscilla.
It’s coming to me a bit late, but I now remember tidy woman remarking when she first saw Sophie that the cat was “all alone.” Obviously we know Sophie wasn’t, but it does sound like something in Sophie’s lost and lonely appearance resonated with TW.
At least this is a happy ending. One of the kitties here a few months ago was taken. Thankfully he escaped and made it back home. And yes, he’s chipped. He’s a Siamese with the Spock ears. And it was obvious that they didn’t take the cat to the vet to make sure he wasn’t chipped either. He’s very sweet, so sleek that he looks like a hairless. She’s been keeping him in, only with an escape now and then. Last time he escaped, I picked him up and took him to his human. She was a bit surprised that he escaped.
Well Georgia did reassure us that this storyline would have a happy ending…Lord Pomegranate would want them to save a homeless baby…he looks like a very kind critter!
Ya know, its kinda nice that no ‘gradoo’ got on the portrait of Lord Pomegranate. Now that I have a bit of compassion/empathy for the clean house lady I no longer want Gutter and the Robber Mice to confer more mayhem upon her… Dang… I love the mayhem, though.
i’m wondering if we’ll see all of the women getting together for cheesecake and friendship to celebrate and when Sophie’s Woman tells the story, someone will speak up and says she knows the Tidy people from this or that committee and she could tell her stories. maybe this is how Sophie’s Woman finds out TW needs directions about caring for a pet. or maybe she was fine with the dog and she just doesn’t understand cats?
Don’t trust her! She grabbed a cat right off the street and didn’t even check to see if Sophie was microchipped! WHICH SHE WAS!!! All that woman wanted to a “show” cat for which, by the way, Sophie would be ineligible without complete registration papers.

Christina Perry: A Thousand Years
Time long past, losing some one loved
Try to be brave,
How can I love again? Is there one there?
But then one time suddenly I felt needed
I felt I could give my love again
Love comes closer!
…….
I have cried every day for a pet I could love
Even though we did not meet yet I have loved you
For as long as you have needed me
And I’ll love you forevermore!
…….
Time to heal
Beauty in finding one who needs my love
I will not let anything take away
What is the right thing to do, there is a pet who needs my love
One step closer!
…….
I have cried every day for a pet I could love
Even though we did not meet yet I have loved you
For as long as you have needed me
And I’ll love you forevermore!
…….
All along I never knew
I was grieving
There was much I could do
For a pet, love receiving
I have loved you since before we met
And I’ll love you forevermore!

Sophititi: Have Iggy and Puck returned with Kara from Floofnet’s Culinary School yet?

Soph: I guess they decided they could take their time coming back since Ora Z is still playing with the Gold Medals.
Maat-Tilda: We have to design special tunics in honor of the Catathlon winners, as well as the Cheese Taking Team.
Adobe: I like Tash’s needle jacket, but I think that should be a one of a kind jacket.
Tillie: Especially since there’s only one cactus in the realm.
Soph: Yes. I don’t think Smiling Cactus Sourire wants to give up too many of her needles.
Enter Puckmosis and Iggy
Tillie: Congratulations on your win, guys.
Puck: Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without Iggy, Kat-Mandu, and Elvis.
Iggy: That papyrus arrived right on time.
Elvis-Anum: How about some tea and Xanadu honey scones?
Puck: Thanks. Don’t mind if I do.

Not the ending I was expecting on my Birthday. Everyone have a great day!

This is an awesome outcome! Win Win for both and TW has to clean up for her lack of finding Sophie’s true owner. Hopefully, she will learn how to truly care for kitties from Sophie’s woman so she can be a better pet owner for the next Priscilla.

I did not expect this twist <3

It’s coming to me a bit late, but I now remember tidy woman remarking when she first saw Sophie that the cat was “all alone.” Obviously we know Sophie wasn’t, but it does sound like something in Sophie’s lost and lonely appearance resonated with TW.

Grieving over her loss of Lord Pomegranate is understandable. It doesn’t excuse her actions, though.

I guess Priscilla is better than Lord Pomegranate.

Sophie looks relieved although not so much in panel 1. Thanks to Georgia for the cat facial expressions.

Well Georgia did reassure us that this storyline would have a happy ending…Lord Pomegranate would want them to save a homeless baby…he looks like a very kind critter!

I’m sure the catnapper would really like going to the shelter on Monday.
Because it means she won’t be under arrest on charges of cat theft.

There you go! Finally. ☺️ The tidy woman is not a bad person. She is a sad person who thought Sophie would fill the cat-shaped hole in her heart.

If someone had my 15 year old Ali for weeks without checking her collar or microchip, I don’t know how nice I’d be.

Okay, “Lord Pomegranate” is a great name for a funny little dog.

i’m wondering if we’ll see all of the women getting together for cheesecake and friendship to celebrate and when Sophie’s Woman tells the story, someone will speak up and says she knows the Tidy people from this or that committee and she could tell her stories. maybe this is how Sophie’s Woman finds out TW needs directions about caring for a pet. or maybe she was fine with the dog and she just doesn’t understand cats?

A happy ending!

Don’t trust her! She grabbed a cat right off the street and didn’t even check to see if Sophie was microchipped! WHICH SHE WAS!!! All that woman wanted to a “show” cat for which, by the way, Sophie would be ineligible without complete registration papers.

I’m with Sue Ellen and a few others. Nope, Nope, Nope! TW should not be trusted with any kind of pet.

I like how Sophie’s Woman says, “It’s really hard to lose _someone.”_
She doesn’t say, “It’s really hard to lose a pet.”
Hubby and I feel the same way.
