She should show up—with balloons, party hats, noisemakers, and a hired clown!

You can be buried without mourners… But being buried with celebrants is gauche.

So did he actually die offstage, or is this just another step in dodging the law?

If nobody wants to come, that frees you from the obligation of having a funeral. Just get him cremated and dump his ashes in a sewer.

She should hire a New Orleans style band, but it’s party to and from the cemetery.

She’s mourning in her own way, with a large bottle of pathos. I’m with her on this one.

My Dad had a similar attitude like Mark’s Dad, without the wealth. He died at 97, was cremated, and buried. We stood around the grave with a bottle of tequila and memories of his life.

Yeah, having parents is a trip sometimes isn’t ? But you know, funerals are always more about the living aren’t they. ;-)

At a Jewish funeral, they lower the casket and there is a pile of dirt and a shovel. Some throw a shovel full to symbolize support for the family. Some throw dirt to make sure he stays there.

I once heard an apocryphal story about someone who was informed that his shrewish mother-in-law had died and was asked about funeral arrangements.

“Bold the coffin lid! Embalm! Cremate! Take no chances!” was the reply.

Actual obit for a bad mother:

GLENBURN – Florence “Flo” Harrelson, 65, formerly of Chelsea, died on Feb. 22, 2024, without family by her side due to burnt bridges and a wake of destruction left in her path.

Florence did not want an obituary or anyone including family to know she died. That’s because even in death, she wanted those she terrorized to still be living in fear looking over their shoulders. So, this isn’t so much an obituary but more of a public service announcement.

Try the people he owes money to. Once they confirm they are never getting repaid, they can get on with lives. That’s pretty decent closure.
