We were poor when I was a kid. One of the things I did to get a little bit of money was to walk around and collect soft drink bottles to turn in for the deposit. That is no longer an option. Why not require soft drinks to be bottled in glass (get rid of some of the plastic waste problem) and go back to giving a deposit for the bottles?
I kept a rope on the second floor bedroom. There are three exits from that floor. Two windows and the stairs. Rope was for the windows exit. Grandkids thought I was a loony but they wanted to try it out!
That’s not true about recycling savings and costs! It looks like Ripley’s is joining the rest of our MSM with lies and mistatements when it fits their agenda. Believe it or not. Not!
Hans Christian Andersen, being ever prepared as an old Boy Scout, carried his rope about to lasso any attacking ostrich that might come his way while collecting clear glass bottles for recycling!
And yet it seems that recycling facilities seldom process glass. I guess that it’s not easy to collect / store / transport (is heavy, and easily broken then it’s sharp…).
When I lived in Switzerland I was impressed with their glass bottle recycling system. They had a container for clear, green and brown bottles, and you could find them everywhere. Here, I think I’d have to drive 30 minutes to the only place in the valley to drop my glass bottles off (which are few and far between). Not worth it. I wish they made it easier to recycle glass!

Thankfully, we’re about done with 100-watt bulbs.

Why does the new Russian Navy have glass bottom boats?
So they can see the old Russian Navy.

I told a girl, “You look great without glasses”
She said, “But I don’t wear glasses.”
I replied, while polishing my lenses, “Yeah, but I do.”

At a job interview I filled my glass of water until it overflowed a little
“Nervous?” asked the interviewer.
“No, I always give 110%” I replied.

Husband: Honey, I broke a glass in the kitchen.
Wife: It’s okay, dear. I’ll be there with a broom.
Husband: It’s not an emergency. You can come on foot.

I wonder what the length of rope he carried in his luggage and if it determined what floor he slept on?

Ironically, leaving the lights on for four hours kind of defeats the purpose.

I think a hotelier would be worried about a guest who checks in with a rope in his luggage. Could result in a nasty surprise for housekeeping.

So when the thieves were asked what happened to the writer that was in the room, they said their Hans were tied.

Soooo…..what are you saving if you turn around and light up a 100 watt (!) bulb?

So he fell out of bed and then found out he had liver cancer. The rope thing was smart, though. Especially back then.

I would really like to hear the story that Hans Christian Andersen would tell the TSA agent as to why he needs a long rope in his luggage
