A guest artist and guest writer. I don’t mind the graphical style of this at all, but I’m not sure yet what is happening. The flip phone appears not to be the latest model, though cell network providers do still sell them.
What is so special in that drawer; is it the lady’s picture or the flip phone ? When was the last time we saw people sweat like this in DT ? And not the flop sweat striker does when he gets caught goosing my Goats, with his tattered tool.
Looks like the victim got a picture of his killer … unless he had the phone camera pointed in the wrong direction. Looks like another Minit Mystery that offers more in the way of cluelessness than clues.
Let’s see: one of the partners in Scarbourough Law (the one who isn’t Marcus) has his key in the door (closing for the day, or coming in for the night shift?) and hears phone ringing. Using his cell phone app as a flashlight (instead of flipping the light switch) he enters and calls to see if Marcus is there, then opens desk drawer where cell phone is still ringing. (Why did the caller use the number for the flip phone instead of the number for the phone being used as flashlight?) Someone (Marcus?) shoots him as he says hello to caller and the sound of the gunshot causes the phone to jump from flashlight app to camera app and take photo? Killer will leave it for the police?
That’s what I got from the strip. So far it makes more sense than the last story.
Howie Noel runs the excellent @dicktracyroguesgallery Instagram page. He is a bonafide Dick Tracy aficionado, so I have high hopes for the art of this Minit Mystery.
So he inadvertently took a selfie when he was shot. But how did the phone take a picture of him holding the phone that’s taking the picture? The picture angle is from further away from his hand!
you paid good, hard-earned moneyfor her to provide HER talented services for an hour or so, so go for it and let her do her thing, no matter how good or how painful it might prove to be…
I don’t know what’s up with the flip-phone but I don’t think it’s his regular phone, and modern smart phone. He let himself in. He called to see if his partner was in. Instead of flipping on a light, he used his smart-phone light. Then he looked in the drawer to see if the old flip-phone was still there. Finding it, he had his smart-phone laying on the desk screen down with the light up and his hand on it. Startled by the shooter, he somehow had enough time to pull the cell phone up and snap off a photo. Maybe he could do this quickly enough, but I doubt it unless the shooter gave him enough time to.
But where’d the photo come from? It’s apparently a photo of him holding the phone that took the photo like he took it in a mirror. That’s pretty mysterious.

I’m sure “Chuck” has no affiliation with this now “infirm” establishment.

Looks like he was shot, but still holding the phone, I think, with the shooter shown on the phone?

Panel two, with the street scene, very nicely done…gives it a “1930’s noir” feeling

1) who’s the dish? 2) Does the photo REALLY reflect the killer’s face 3) What is the mysterious “It” that’s still there?

The shooter’s silhouette suggests someone wearing an elaborate cape, perhaps Ming the Merciless?

More and more it seems like Curtis is ceding authority on the strip. Maybe these guys will stick more to the tradition.

The shooter appears to be left-handed, if that means anything.
