This is actually pretty clever. The phonetic spelling adds an extra layer of challenge because you have to figure out what the clue is first. I’m not surprised that a lot of people don’t want to think that much (I haven’t decided whether I want to expend the time and effort necessary to puzzle it out myself), but anyone who thinks this shows laziness on Evans’ part frankly has a screw loose, as coming up with something like this almost certainly took a lot more time than the average cartoon does.

I actually have to give GnK props for the cleverness on this one.

Do you remember that short story line about Tiffany and Leslie talking about Leslie being into Nancy a few days again between October 11th and the 13th? That was an interesting story arc and I kind of wish that it continued to be honest. It would have been a cheating scandal or something.

Golly – I haven’t seen this style of text in 30+ years! It captivated me for several weeks at that time. Saying the text aloud reveals the actual meaning, but not one word is the original text. I remember a bit of “Ladle Rat Rotten Hut”: Wants pawn term, dare worsted ladle gull hoe lift widow grain murder honor etch offer lodge dock florist. [this went on for the whole story]Translation: “Little Red Riding Hood” One upon a time there was a little girl who lived on the edge of a large dark forest.

I don’t mind Shannon making a puzzle but it would’ve been nice if Brad & Toni translated the clues a bit. I would have done the puzzle, but I really don’t want to bother now.

The spanish version is a regular comic. Bernice; “You haven’t worn that sweater since last winter, right?” Luann; “It’s true. I’m surprised you noticed.” Bernice; “The hangar marks helped”. " Luann; The what?"

This may be the most complicated and original Halloween Sunday page in the history of comic strips. One of the things I love about “Luann” is the ability the authors have to use slang words. Unfortunately I don’t have the time or patience to try to do a puzzle, I’ll read the solutions on the site.

No. I prefer to spend 5 seconds seeing/reading a cartoon and another minute writing a comment. Not gonna spend this much time on what is likely a lame joke or season greeting. Reminds me of the “Christmas Story” movie scene where Ralphie gets the decoder ring only to find out the message is an Ovaltine commercial.

This is an insult to your followers. I read the comic to be amused, 3 sec flat. I do not read it for this kind of insipid, shallow work. TRULY underwhelmed and disappointed. Missed the mark by a mile.

I think this is very clever. I figured out all the clues, but not necessarily all the answers! I would need to print it out to keep track, but my PC and printer aren’t cooperating.

Hi folks. After the Hallowee’n lights got shut off and all good little goblins were home out of the wet, we opened up LuannFan.com and looked at the answers to the puzzle. WOW! Some I never would have gotten , a few I had, and others I had come up with words that fit but were. Wrong. Eg. Final across clue fit “chocolates” but wasn’t. “Trash” bag threw me, as did “wolfmanstrick”. I’m old, so “WolfmanJack” is burned into the dna of my memories.Still, great puzzle! Hope they do it again next year!
